About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

Come stay in our charming, mountain lake home and enjoy the gorgeous, 180 degree views of Rocky Mountain National Park and Shadow Mountain Lake. Cook up a hearty breakfast in the kitchen and enjoy a cup of coffee while savoring the views, quiet location, and easy access to numerous activities. An artesian spring and willow bushes provide natural attractions for moose, fox, elk and other animals which you will likely see during your visit.

Spend a fun-filled day skiing, snowshoeing or browsing the shops in Grand Lake. How about sledding or cross country skiing with your family? This cabin is the ideal place for you to make those special memories that will last a lifetime. Have fun hanging out together and getting away from it all - enjoy board games, doing a puzzle, or just relaxing in the laid back Colorado mountains.

Have lunch or dinner in one of the many fine local restaurants. Perhaps you will decide to explore the night life in the valley, or maybe a relaxing evening at home is in order. The full kitchen has everything you need to make a wonderful home-cooked meal.

Return to the cozy cabin after a busy day in the mountains and sink into the soft recliner couch with a bowl of popcorn to watch a movie. When it's time for bed, climb our signature spiral staircase to the master bedroom and loft, aka 'the fort,' which is perfect for the young and the young at heart. Then nestle under the warm quilts for sweet dreams, until you awake to another amazing day in Grand Lake, Colorado.

**We also own the Moose Cabin, #218770. Rent one or both cabins! They are on the same 1/2 acre, but separate. A great place for two families to stay.*** OR consider our Grey Fox Condo in Granby Ranch #4352958. Ski, golf, fish, and mountain bike in this gorgeous valley and then relax in our well appointed condo. Ski-in/ski-out!

About Angie Zimmerer

We love the Grand Lake area and all of the outdoor activities it offers. We especially enjoy relaxing at the cabin when we are not going up to do chores! As lovely as the cabin is, we are always making improvements. We believe if we are comfortable there, our guests will be as well.

We're both Colorado natives who love sharing our beautiful state with visitors. We are CU Buffs, with two children who are also Buffs. We love skiing, climbing, biking, sewing, wine and microbrew tasting, and spending time with our family when we can get them together!

Angie Zimmerer purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Angie Zimmerer chose Rocky Mountain National Park

This 1950's cabin started out as an A-frame, which later saw some major additions. It is a unique cabin with fun decor, and gorgeous views. We stay there frequently, and are always making improvements. Come up to enjoy skiing, hiking, wildlife, views, fishing, boating, snowshoeing!

What makes this cabin unique

Frequently, we have moose, elk, and foxes wander across our property. Grill on the lower deck, and roast marshmallows out by the fire pit.

The winter snowfalls are amazing. Stay warm inside or choose one of the many outdoor adventures. The summers are cooler than where we live in Boulder, and we can see far more stars!

There is much less traffic and smaller crowds in Grand Lake than other CO tourist destinations. Come play in our wonderful mountain paradise!

Guestbook comments from the owner

and how clean it is. We really enjoyed our stay. Our last adventure was having a hummingbird get stuck in the house. We finally got it out, poor baby. Hope to come again. :)

Perfect lil' getaway spot

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 5 stayed here and had a wonderful time. Out of the hustle and bustle of the crowds made it a perfect way to end the day. Board games around the coffe table each night (kids choice) made this momma's heart happy! Gorgeous views! I'd recommend the Star cabin to everyone!

Cozy, Quiet, and Comfy

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 stayed in the Star cabin for several nights over Thanksgiving. The communication with Angie leading up to our stay was great. She contacted us and asked if we had any questions or needed anything special for our stay. The communication has been outstanding after as well. One of our children left his Kindle Fire and Angie has been great in working out a plan to return it to us.

As soon as we pulled up to the cabin we were swept away with excitement. My wife is not a huge 'mountain' person but she was immediately drawn into the excitement when she saw the cabin. It is the perfect size for our family of 5. I don't think you'd want to many more than 5, but you could always rent out both cabins for more space! The kids spent a ton of time in the 'fort' and came up with numerous games to play. The also utilized the sun room as part of their entertainment. The sun room was a great place to watch for wildlife and take in the views of the lake.

The queen bed was comfy for the adults and we slept great! My daughter slept on the futon with no complaints. The large windows on the top level offer an amazing view of the lake and surrounding mountains. I enjoyed getting out of bed and opening the blinds and watching the sunrise each morning.

The lower level offered just the right amount of comfort for our family. We brought some board games and spent time playing them and watching the Turkey day football games. We prepared our Thanksgiving meal in the kitchen and had no problem fitting a 12 pound turkey in the oven. We had brought most of our food for the trip with us and we quickly filled the refrigerator. I think it's important to note it's not a full size refrigerator like you have at home so plan accordingly. All the utensils, pots, pans, etc we needed to cook and eat our meals were already stocked in the cabin. There were even some spices and condiments available if needed.

We saw fox on several occasions around the cabin, but that was the only wildlife we saw. We asked some people in Grand Lake and they said we were too late in the season to see any moose, but the deer and elk were around. Speaking of Grand Lake, we spent several afternoons there. It's a short drive from the cabin and the restaurants and shops are fun to check out. Sagebrush was amazing!

Overall, we had a great time and a great experience working with Angie. We highly recommend the Star Cabin for your next trip!

Great cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was very comfortable and the cabin had everything we needed. Relaxing in front of a warm fireplace in the evenings was a perfect ending to our days.

Winter had settled in and although we did not see much wildlife at the cabin, there was still active wildlife in the area.

Charming, warm and enjoyable

  • 5 of 5

My family loved the cabin so much we are considering moving up to Grand county. The oldest of us choose to sleep in the "fort". Lots of giggling up there! No wild life on our visit but we awoke to snow and a bright sky. Will recommend to any and all.
