About Clare Byrne
We live near Guildford in Surrey. We have 3 children who have grown up loving our 'Cornwall home'. We run a business together and love to regularly travel to The Old Barn as a fantastic place to unwind and relax.
Clare Byrne purchased this Barn in 2001
Why Clare Byrne chose Jacobstow
The Old Barn is a truly special place offering complete solitude if required, yet within minutes of glorious beaches, countryside pubs and glorious walks. 15 mins from Bude to the North and Camelford to the South. Rock/Padstow just 30 mins away. The Old Barn holds precious family memories for us all and is one of those few places in the world you walk into and just relax and unwind immediately!
What makes this Barn unique
The view from the patio is just amazing! Rolling fields and the distant noise of cows and sheep ensure you relax as soon as you enter! The Old barn has always been one of those truly special places for our family. On a clear night, the stars are magical as there is no light pollution. The living room and large granite fire place, with wood burning stove is equally delightful both in Summer and for those dark Winter evenings! Along with BT Infinity Fibre-Optic WIFI connectivity straight into our home; integrated BOSE surround system and 42 inch flat screen LG TV (with extensive BT TV channel availability, including all BT Sports and HD channels) - all your audio-visual and communications needs are catered for!

Lovely house close to some good beaches for bodyboarding and surfing. House was lovely and clean had everything you need for a relaxing holiday peaceful garden with different seating areas to enjoy the morning and evening sun. Woolway family visit
The property was exactly as advertised and didn't fail to please.
My grandson thought it was awesome.
Best house we have stayed in
As a family we have been coming to Cornwall for 5 years, staying in different locations. This house was by far the best. Loads of room for everyone (5 adults and a toddler) indoor and out. Totally child friendly, clean and close to local shops and lovely bar. Bude and the surrounding areas are lovely, lots of great beaches and places to go for kiddies and adults. Thanks Clare, we loved it!!
Thanks so much for this lovely review!
It was a pleasure welcoming you to our Cornwall home.
We hope to see you again soon.

A really comfortable and relaxing holiday in a spacious, quiet house
The Old Barn is a great place to get away from it all, which is just what we were looking for. The place is very spacious, particularly the kitchen and lounge, and especially the garden. The garden has an extensive lawn, which is surrounded by high trees and hedges and makes a great place for outdoor games, in our case badminton and frisbee. There are multiple ways of exiting the house into the garden, where there is a patio with a brick BBQ and a picnic table, a side patio with a round metal table with four accompanying chairs, and there's even a garden bench. This meant there were plenty of ways of sitting in the garden either in or out of the sun. There is even a small (well protected) pond. The lounge has three large settees surrounding a substantial low table, which make it a very comfortable place, whether reading, playing board games or enjoying watching the large TV screen. The kitchen is a good size and well equipped. The only other major issue we had is that there isn’t a recycling box available and therefore all our plastic, paper and glass waste had to go out with the rest of the rubbish in black bin liners. We’re hoping that this will be addressed soon. What was particularly good was the rapid, courteous, and helpful manner in which Jane and Pete responded to any issues we had, whether it was finding the place on arrival (we have an old sat nav!) or sorting out a dodgy DVD player. This all helped to make our stay both really enjoyable and highly relaxing.
Lovely comfortable property let down by the state of the windows
Convenient location, and close to the coast for everywhere from Bude to Padstow.
Comfortable spacious lounge, and kitchen-dining room. The main bedroom was a little on the small side, but very comfortable and with a very good shower.
The only disappointment was the poor state of the windows, with over a third of the window panes with failed sealed units, and as a result condensation between the panes, some clearly having been like it for a long time. Other windows were not very clean inside or out.
Thanks for the feedback Barry. We are pleased to say the windows are being replaced early 2019.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again soon.

The famous seaside village of Boscastle is only approx. 10miles away. A visit to Trebarwith Strand and The Port William Pub is a favourite of ours, as is a walk on beautiful Daymer Bay and visits to the wonderful surfing beach of Polzeath and lunch at The Rock Inn.
Also, get the ferry from Rock over to Padstow for the day.
Bude is 15 mins away by car and has a great selection of surf shops and other general shops, cafes, restaurants and fantastic beaches. Summerleaze beach is a favourite of ours.
Finally, a pint at The Bay View Inn along the coast road from Bude to Widemouth Bay is a must. A great pub, as is The Coombe Barton on the beach at Crackington Haven and The Wainhouse Inn (our 'local' closest to The Old Barn).
If you love fish and chips...take a trip to Camelford and visit 'Peckish'. It has won Fish and Chip shop of the year countless times and you will not be disappointed!
Other favourite restaurants of ours are, Life's a Beach in Bude; The Bay View Inn at Widemouth Bay; Sunday roast at The Wainhouse Inn; The Port William at Trebarwith Strand; The Rock Inn at Rock.
