About this property

Spacious, pet friendly 4-bedroom Highland cottage with access to 12,000 acre estate

Located near Wester Ross on the western edge of the Scottish Highlands is Stag Lodge. This spacious, pet friendly cottage comfortably accommodates up to eight in four bedroom and is within easy reach of Plockton and Applecross, and the glorious beaches on the West Coast of Scotland.

It is the cottage's location within the 12,000 Glencarron Estate that makes it really special. There are four peaks over 3,000 ft on the Estate and four more within an easy drive, so it's an ideal spot for "Munro Baggers". There are wonderful walks from the cottage, and deer stalking, salmon and trout fishing and clay-pigeon shooting can all be organised from the cottage owners.

Stag Lodge is a classic Victorian estate workers cottage that has been recently refurbished to create a spacious, elegant holiday home for friends or families. The cottage is comfortably furnished and equipped to a high standard.

On the ground floor of the cottage there is a large lounge with open fire and doors opening directly onto the patio, which has wonderful views of the Highlands. Off the lounge is the well-equipped kitchen, which is fitted with a wide range of appliances, including a fridge/freezer, an electric twin oven with hob and a dishwasher. There is also a handy utility room where you will find the washing machine and tumble dryer. The final room downstairs is a spacious double bedroom with views of the glen and plenty of storage, this bedroom also benefits from its own en-suite shower room.

The final three bedrooms are all located on the first floor of the cottage and are set up as twins with full size single beds. They share the first floor family bathroom, which is fitted with a bath with overhead shower, a wash basin and a WC.

Outside, Stag Lodge has a good sized garden, which is home to lot of local birds and wildlife. The views from here are beautiful both during the day and at night when you can admire the stars.

Apart from the amazing scenery right outside the cottage, there are also plenty of places to visit with the Isle of Skye, Plockton and the rest of the Highlands to explore. The area is also ideal for a number of activities, including walking, cycling, horse riding and water sports.

Please note that Stag Lodge is a semi-detached cottage set above the road, and it shares its large garden with the property next door.

Stag Lodge is a dog friendly cottage. There is an additional charge of £20 per dog per booking. Please notify us at time of booking. Payment must be made prior to arrival.

Bad start good end
Property was not cleaned when we arrived, filthy oven and mouse droppings in beds. Property owner arranged full clean gave us a 4x4experience and 30% refund. Happy with their response, staff fantastic but won’t be visiting again.

10/10 Excellent

Perfect location and great customer service
We had great customer service and communication from My Favourite Cottage and the owners of Stag Lodge throughout our booking and before our arrival. Also from Matthew, the Estate Keeper, on all the estate sporting activities prior to our visit. Matthew and Becky were both great and made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived until we departed. The cottage is in a perfect location to explore the north of Scotland, which is so beautiful. Having Eliean Donan Castle, Plockton Village and Attadale Gardens all on your doorstep is amazing! We also visited Dunrobin Castle which was really interesting. The museum there is fascinating. It unfortunately rained on the way home from there so we didn’t walk along the beach but we still had an icecream in the car, true Brit style! The beach looked really good though. The bedding and pillows were amazing! Deep feather pillows and a nice heavy feather duvet was perfect for a good nights sleep. You don’t always get such quality bedding away from home, which is always an annoyance for me! My husband caught a salmon in the river yards from the cottage within the first hour, which I’m sure was more luck then skill but he greatly disagreed! He also thoroughly enjoyed a day stalking. Matthew was the perfect gamekeeper host. Nothing was too much trouble. The week was topped off by a sighting of a Sea Eagle out of the living room window. The Spar Shop is about 20 mins away so not too far for a shop. We ate a late lunch at The Carron Restaurant which had a good selection of food for adults and children which was well priced, fresh and tasty. The “take away” food at Eliean Donan Castle was really good. The chips are amazing! I had a kids burger and chips for lunch which was really reasonable and a good portion size. The children had fish and chips which was better then our local chip shop they said. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend booking Stag Lodge.

An Enjoyable Stay At Stag Lodge
Stag Lodge was an excellent base to access the many fine mountains of Achnashellach. The cottage's elevated position above the road gave a great view looking over to Moruisg and Sgurr nan Ceannaichean. It was very useful having a utility room to leave any wet and muddy clothes after a day's hillwalking. Matthew, the gamekeeper, was very welcoming and always available to help. We very much enjoyed our stay in this lovely part of the Highlands.
