About this property

Charming historic house on Sterling Harbor, waterviews, walk to village

Tucked away along Sterling Harbor in Greenport’s Historic District -- on the village's most desired street -- sits this lovely, 3-bedroom 1780s “vernacular” home. Meticulous attention was paid when renovating the house to preserve its charm and architectural integrity while expanding the lay-out with modern additions.

The original wide floorboards, woodwork, and beamed ceilings have been maintained in the library/entrance foyer along with its working fireplace. An open flow to the main rooms offers spacious living areas — a large dining room, remodeled cook’s kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, and an airy, light-filled sunroom. The sunroom opens to a front deck with flowering pergola and water views, perfect for relaxing and entertaining. A back patio off the kitchen overlooks a large, private lawn with mature trees and gardens.

The master bedroom, with a working fireplace and adjoining bathroom, is on the first floor. Two additional bedrooms are on the second floor -- a single and a double -- with a recently renovated, full bathroom. An outdoor shower awaits you when you return from the beach.

The property is within a 5-minute walk to everything in the maritime village -- restaurants, cafés, movie theater, Burton’s bookstore, Mitchell Park and Carousel, and other attractions. Beaches and wineries are within a short distance by bike, car or foot. The LIRR and Hampton Jitney serve Greenport. North Ferry connects the village to Shelter Island. The Cross Sound Ferry which goes to New England is at Orient Point, 8 miles away.

Ideal
Two weeks in this beautiful but spacious cottage flew by. Breakfast each morning on the deck, under the pergola, with a view of the inlet; nights in a four-poster bed; swordfish on the gas grill and dinners prepared in the fully equipped country kitchen; plenty of room for visiting adult children in the two extra bedrooms; a house full of light, charm, and tchotchkes from the owner's travels. The house is on a quiet street a 10-minute stroll along similarly sleepy streets to Greenport's bustling business district, restaurants, movie theater. You're not far from beaches, gorgeous bike rides, vineyards, and just 10 minutes from Shelter Island. Moreover, Greenport itself is a quaint haven of an historic whaling village, with not a Starbucks or fast-food franchise in sight. An ideal escape.

Charming home in great location!!
My husband and I rented this incredibly charming home for the month of August last year. It's nestled on a very quiet road with beautiful harbor views and is a few minutes walk from all the activities and amenites of Greenport village. The home is very spacious and has great outdoor living/dining spaces. We most definitely enjoyed our time her and would highly recommend it.
