A newly renovated spacious self-catering chalet in the lovely French Alpine village of St Bon in the world's largest ski resort of The Three Valleys. At 1100m altitude the chalet has stunning views and is only a couple of minutes’ drive to the fast Telecabines of Le Praz Courchevel 1300 where there is lots of free parking.

A good free ski bus service stops just 200 m from the chalet, and in good snow conditions you can ski back to the charming village of St Bon.

The ski buses go straight to the Le Praz ski lifts, and on to the other Courchevel resorts. The first bus stop after St Bon is near the excellent ski lift station in Courchevel Le Praz (1300) where you can buy lift passes (either for the Courchevel valley, or for all the Three Valleys), get piste maps, bus timetables, get details of all events and entertainments, and it has ski lockers next to the lifts if you or your children prefer not to carry them around all week!

The fabulous Aquamotion with its indoor surfing, wild rivers, water slides, climbing, beauty and wellness zones is just 10 minutes away. The massive Paradiski area at Champagny-en-Vanoise is less than 20 minutes’ drive, and it’s half an hour to the smaller resort of Pralognan.

The Black Pearl Pizza restaurant (plus a take-away service), with its wood fired oven and vaulted ceiling, is only a 500 metres walk and the free resort buses run late into the night for visiting the many other restaurants, shops and bars in the resort villages.

Chalet L'Orbeye is tastefully finished with plenty of room for up to 11 guests. All of the 4 bedrooms have wall-mounted flatscreen TVs including UK channels, a tablet PC complete with games and other functions and there is free WiFi in the chalet.

Three new comfy leather sofas let you relax to watch the Samsung 40 inch flat screen TV with Sky after a long day on the slopes. The kitchen is fully equipped with hand made solid wooden units and includes a retro Smeg fridge/freezer, dishwasher, raclette set for apres-ski and everything you need to enjoy a self-catered holiday.

Chalet L'Orbeye has its own integrated boot room with heated ski boot racks, an entrance from the garden plus internal stairs up to the living area which like the boot room and rest of the chalet has thermostatically controlled heating. There is parking on the driveway for up to three cars.

About Julian Braidwood

We are both vets that love beautiful countryside, mountainous scenery, and to ski! Our home is near the Lake District in the North of England, where we often go hiking.

We were both born and lived in the South of England until we met at the University of Liverpool when we were veterinary students. After working in veterinary practice after a few years we found ourselves living near the Scottish border in Cumbria. Our three children all went to school locally, but have now all left home and are at different universities in England and Scotland.

My parents were farmers and when they died we decided to sell the farm and look for a nice chalet in the Alps. In 2014 we fell in love with Chalet L'Orbeye and the next year was spent modernising and renovating the interior.

Now we are looking forward to spending more time in our lovely chalet in the French Alps! We hope that you love it as much as we do!!

p.s. if you phone and if I'm at work (at Triveritas) I may need to call you back or you might need to leave a message. I will get back to you!

Julian Braidwood purchased this chalet in 2014

Why Julian Braidwood chose St-Bon-Tarentaise

Chalet L'Orbeye has a fabulous location in the Courchevel valley for both winter and summer holidays. The skiing in Courchevel and the fully connected Three Valleys is world class and the largest ski area in the world.

The scenery is stunning with snow topped mountains most of the year, and the village of St Bon is the original ski centre in the Courchevel valley with old buildings, a lovely church, and quiet walks. St Bon is still the administrative centre for the Courchevel valley and unlike the other nearby ski resorts has a good year round population.

Other ski resorts such as Paradiski and Pralognon are easily accessible, and the spectacular Vanoise National Park is a must for nature lovers, hiking and for wildlife.

It is also a great base for cycling holidays (road and mountain biking).

What makes this chalet unique

Chalet L'Orbeye was lovingly built by a local family that had lived in St Bon for at least three generations. The woodwork, some kitchen cupboards and original windows were made by the owner who is an artisan carpenter (and ski instructor!) so that chalet has a lovely homely feel, and is surrounded by its own Alpine garden. There are four balconies (one for each bedroom), the views are tremendous, and it is a great base for both winter and summer holidays.

We had looked at many chalets, but the classic style of Chalet L'Orbeye, great location, and the Alpine wooden homely feel meant this was the chalet for us!

In case you're wondering apparently Orbeye is the name of a tree!

The location is perfect for getting to the slopes (just a couple of minutes) and has a free ski bus stop less than 200 m (you can see it in some photos which were taken from the chalet balconies).

Another wonderful stay in beautiful chalet

  • 5 of 5

This was our third stay in the chalet and yet again we were not disappointed. The chalet is so well situated for the ski bus which gives you easy access to the ski slopes and for non skiers also gives access up to Courchevel. The chalet is so well appointed that we ate in most nights. If you want to eat at the Black Pearl pizza restaurant reserve when you arrive as it is closed Monday to Thursday and we were unable to get a table as didn’t ring in time. We will be back!

Great chalet for family get together.

  • 5 of 5

We were a family group of 3 generations. The chalet provided enough space for eating, sleeping and for playing with Lego. (Grandchild's own)

The chalet was warm, well equipped and clean.

The heated boot room was much appreciated.

We enjoyed lovely weather and excellent ski conditions. The grandchildren loved the family park and other spots that had been sculptured for fun. The winter Olympic Games definitely influenced their activities.

The family ski pass that allows adults to ski at children's prices was great value.

The ski bus was very convenient, being regular and punctual.

I am a non skier and planned to make use of the impressive Aquamotion, also accessed by the ski bus, however a long standing injury to the hand prevented this. Instead I made use of the well marked winter footpaths.

2 little niggles.

I would have liked sharp kitchen knives .

There was a great range of dishes for cooking in the oven but I would have liked a large pan for cooking 'family sized' quantities of pasta etc.

Julian was easy to communicate with and responded to my questions and requests promptly and positively.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this chalet.

Another fantastic stay

  • 5 of 5

It is impossible to tire of this wonderful chalet in the old village of Courchevel St Bon. We have stayed in both summer and winter and shall keep coming back. The property is beautiful inside and out and very well appointed and maintained. The exceedingly efficient wood burning fire makes it warm and cosy throughout.

The location of the stop for the free ski bus makes this such a good venue. Make sure you know the return times from the various resorts to avoid a wait when tired at the end of the day.

For able non skiers there are an increasing number of well signed and well groomed walking trails. Meet up with your skiing friends and family for lunch at mountain restaurants like Bel Air, Bou Blanc or Chenus (and others). For an alternative skiing and walking venue try a day out in Pralognan on the other side of the valley.

Would I recommend this chalet and this area to a friend? You bet I would but only if I could come as well.

Perfect Chalet for a perfect Christmas!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Chalet L'Orbeye, in St Bon for Christmas. Our whole extended family drove from the UK to spend it together. We weren't disappointed. The chalet was easy to locate. Had parking for our three cars. The heated boot racks and ample space in the boot room were a huge plus point. As were the washing machine and drier! All the bedrooms were spacious and beautifully appointed. The views from the bedrooms and sitting room were absolutely stunning. The kitchen is extremely well equipped. We cooked for most of the week and had a 'big' Christmas dinner, everything we required was at hand. The location for the slopes is great. As we had heavy snow all week we used the bus instead of the cars. The bus stop is literally a two minute walk. Buses in the morning ran frequently, every 20 minutes.(They are only once an hour later in the day - a good idea to check times and enjoy another Vin Chaud rather than wait at the bus stop!). The bubble car that runs from Le Praz straight into Courchevel 1850 only takes minutes to get up the mountain. The snow this year is fantastic. We had the best skiing ever. I used New Generation ski school for some tailored lessons. They were excellent. The children went with ESF and enjoyed their lessons. The slopes were groomed to perfection. As you can tell we would strongly recommend the chalet. Julian was prompt to answer all our queries. He has managers at hand in the village if you require local assistance. We did have a small issue which needed to be addressed. Mark came straight round and dealt with the issue swiftly. I highly recommend staying at Chalet L'Orbeye. We can't wait to return.

Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

The chalet is beautiful..the photos do not do it justice. We were 10 people and there was plenty of space for everyone. The heating was incredible..plenty of hot water, high quality furnishings and everything decorated beautifully. The bus stop is only a 5 min walk away but we chose to use our car. Parking is free in Le Praz. The little supermkt has everything you need. All in all a perfect place to stay.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful chalet in a quiet location with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Short walk to the ski bus, hire shop and village store, which is really well stocked with local produce.

The chalet is very well equipped, lots of comfortable sitting space and a large eating area make it a welcoming place to relax in after a days skiing, Lots of snow this year meant that the run back to the village was open. Have stayed in the chalet a few times now and it just seems to get better each time.

The supermarket has everything you need with some delicious local alpine produce together with some British favourites! The bilingual owner is also willing to take orders in advance (info@saintbonrelais.fr). A ski shop also opens in St Bon in December 2016 (Courchevel Racing Center Ski & Golf).

Both 15 minutes away Brides les Bains is a spa town, and Bozel has an outdoor swimming lake.

There are many summer events in the Three Valleys and the amazing Centre Aquatique with its indoor surfing, wild rivers, water slides, climbing, beauty and wellness zones is just 10 minutes away.
