About this property

Farm House - Near Bourbon Trail & Pet Friendly

Late 1800's farm house on a 155 acre working family farm located in the heart of the Bourbon Trail. It is a unique experience to stay on our farm where we raise non-GMO corn that goes into producing bourbons here in Kentucky. The farm is rural and private, but convenient to Louisville, distilleries and many other local attractions. We are located only 10 minutes from the Gene Snyder Freeway in Louisville and 10 minutes from the Outlet Shops of the Bluegrass and 15 minutes from Shelbyville.

The space
This is a historic farm house, over 120 years old. The 3 bedroom house (1 Queen & 2 double beds) comfortably sleeps 6 people. Although it is clean and well maintained, if you prefer shiny and modern this peaceful farm stay may not be for you. Feel free to take a walk around the farm and get out an enjoy the tranquil surroundings on the 2 porches. Also, there are 2 TVs in the home. The living room TV has Dish Network & the master bedroom TV receives basic TV channels via an antenna. However for those who want to stay well connected, free wi-fi is provided and the cell phone reception at the house is generally good. There is plenty of parking, even if you are towing a trailer or have multiple vehicles. There is one room of the house that we use for our farm office, that will remain locked. The property is available for renting everyday, but please keep in mind that since it is a working farm there is traffic in and out of the shared driveway and may be equipment noise on the property.

Guest access
You will have access to the entire home, with the exception of the room that contains our farm office (which remains locked, but we will not access during your stay). Feel free to get out and walk around the 155 acre farm. No one else lives on the farm, so your stay will be private. However there may be farm vehicles in and out of the driveway or work going on at the farm during your stay. We live approximately 20 minutes away, so we are there to help if needed, but other than maybe in and out of the farm you won't see us.

Local Area
Just 15 minutes from historic Downtown Shelbyville, where you will find many restaurants, antique malls and other shopping and coffee shops. The house is located near Finchville and Simpsonville KY, both beautiful little country towns. It is a rural setting, so we hope you enjoy the farms and scenery along the way. Please note that the closest stores and restaurants are a just a 10 minute drive away.

Getting around
Feel free to get out and take a stroll around the 155 acre farm, stretch your legs and enjoy nature. However, to get to this home you will need to come by car. There is no public transportation in the area. You can get a cab, Uber, Lyft, etc. out of nearby Louisville.

In town for spring break softball
The house was well equipped and cozy for us and our Basset Hounds! The owner is super nice and responsive to any comments or questions. The online listing is 100% accurate. For those of you that enjoy getting out of the hustle and bustle of the city, I’d recommend this place!

Country Living
This cozy little farm house was just what we were looking for. Conveniently located outside of Louisville and under the stars. We will be back again.

Beautiful Farmhouse
We loved our stay at the townhouse. It’s definitely not fancy or modern, but that was the opposite of what we were looking for. It has all of the beautiful woodwork and qualities that you would expect from a house of this age. Only cons were the dead flies mentioned by the previous guest and the electrical outlets in the largest bedroom were well used and our phone chargers wouldn't stay plugged in. I would recommend replacing the outlets.

Overall Good
This was our destination Christmas location this year. Pros: Great location to the Bourbon Trail. Loved being out in the country. We enjoyed the walk to the back of the property to the stream. The dogs loved the pond and stream. Nice and a quiet. We would have enjoyed a fire in the pit, but it rained, during our stay. We found the beds to be comfortable. Washer and dryer seemed new and needed due to the rain. We loved the old farmhouse. Cons: Dead flies everywhere, mostly in all the windows. Possibly, coming from the pile of deer carcasses near the front pond. There were only 4 short glasses. It would be nice to have some tall glasses, too. Showers had to be quick with four adults. We had to pace them out to have hot showers. No functioning bedroom door latches, only barrel bolts and one bedroom no latch at all. We understand to need for security, when the house is vacant, but having cameras, especially the office window camera pointed directly into the kitchen was a bit uncomfortable.

We are full time farmers born and raised here in Shelby County. We raise corn, soybeans and tobacco.

Why they chose this property

We invite you to stay at the farm house on our working farm. We live on another farm and only use this house during harvest season when the grain dryer is operating.

What makes this property unique

This is a private and peaceful place to stay, while still being close to both Shelbyville & Louisville. You can enjoy the country life and still be a quick drive to restaurants, night life and shopping. If you are a bourbon fan, one extra special perk to this farm stay is that we actually raise non-gmo corn that is going into various bourbons produced in Kentucky.
