About this property

Off-Grid Farm Retreat in Silk Hope

Private, off-grid retreat at the back of a unique, 20-acre permaculture farm.
The guest spaces include two separate sleeping spaces with one shared bathroom that is within one of the sleeping spaces. There is visual but not sound privacy.

-One of the sleeping areas is a 16’x20’ autoclave concrete bedroom and bath house with radiant floor heating, queen bed, shower, bathtub, and dry toilet (custom-made wooden toilet w/ sawdust bucket system). An attached outdoor shower is available during warmer months.
-The other sleeping areas is a separate 12'x12' cedar cabin with lofted queen bed (vertical ladder to reach) and large covered deck. The two spaces are about 6 steps from one another outdoors.
-An enclosed kitchen is next to 12'x12' with a small fridge, gas stove top, and large toaster oven. The kitchen includes many, but not all kitchen supplies you might need. Please see the kitchen photos in case there is something unique you need for a specific meal. *If our family were traveling, I would likely bring my large cast-iron pan and some glassware for leftovers. There is a french press and a coffee grinder, but be sure to bring your own coffee!

The cabin and kitchen are heated by a propane space heater. For colder months, expect that it will be cold if you've been on an outing, but you'll be able to warm the space quickly upon your return. In hot months, there are fans for cooling, but if you're accustomed to chilly A/C this may not be your ideal spot. Electricity is provided via PV solar array and battery bank.

Your stay includes access to farm exploration and pond. We're happy to orient you and a map is provided in the Welcome Booklet. If you open a gate, please close it behind you and assume that any poly-fencing (plastic-wrapped wire) is electrified. You are welcome to bring a fishing pole.

This a perfect environment for a quiet escape, writer's retreat, meditation weekend, technology unplug, or opportunity to see regenerative farming in Piedmont NC. Cell phone service seems to work well for our guests thus far.

We greet guests personally so we can meet them and walk them through the spaces, so if you choose to visit, please plan your travel timing to arrive between 3-9pm and let us know your approximate arrival time in advance so we can plan our day accordingly.

Thanks for your interest in our property!

Can't wait to go back again
We love this place and the hosts. The lodging and setting are unique and wonderful. This is our second stay and we will definitely be back. f you're looking for an off the grid (literally and figuratively) place to relax and you appreciate efficient and sustainable design in a rural setting, you will love this place. Bronwyn and Bobby are excellent hosts who've created a unique and welcoming retreat. Cathy and John

Blissful Retreat
Was exactly what we were looking for - secluded, unplugged getaway. A cozy space with great hosts. The work on their farm is an admirable bonus. Would stay here again anytime.

rustic and elegant
Two small buildings beautifully re-done on an organic farm. You wake up to the sound of birds. It is on a long narrow track far from the road, so you have complete privacy. The set-up is unique and probably not for everyone- the electricity is solar, no Wi-Fi or AC etc., but I found it completely comfortable.

Enjoyed living off the grid
We were questioning our decision to stay here before arriving; but then we arrived and were amazed. We loved every living space; the weather was ideal to sit on the porch and the living room was comfortable for eating and reading. The "shower house" had a super comfortable bed and up to date bathroom. The toilet was different but did it's job well. We are glad we choose to stay at this off the grid, unique, clean house; and would stay again if ever in the area.
