Located in an unspoilt north Hertfordshire village, this lovely cottage is situated in a converted granary, retaining much of its character including many exposed beams.
The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen/diner with electric oven and hob, fridge freezer and dishwasher. At one end is a table and chairs for four.
There is a spacious lounge with comfortable seating and large screen TV.
Upstairs are two bedrooms - one with a king size bed and one double. The roomy bathroom features a bath with shower over.
The cottage has gas central heating with a combi boiler providing on-demand hot water.
Outside is a charming courtyard fitted out with bench seating on three sides. The courtyard is something of a sun trap (although there is ample shade too) and is perfect for enjoying an outdoor meal, drink or just chilling out with a book.
We have enjoyed living just outside the village for nearly 30 years, raising our family of two girls - Catherine and Alex - now all grown up!
Ashwell is the sort of village that people move to and never leave! It's easy to see why. It is a very pretty and welcoming village, with a host of historic buildings, beautiful church and even a village museum. There's lots going on with plenty of village events including a music festival, village open day, country show and book fair - to name just a few!
The village is situated in rural Hertfordshire on the Herts/Cambs border and surrounded by lovely countryside.
Nicki and Mike Holmes purchased this barn in 2015
Ashwell is the sort of village people move to and don't move out! It is very pretty with a host of historic buildings, a beautiful church and even a village museum.
The countryside and walking is really good too.
As soon as we walked through the door of the cottage we were charmed! It is full of character and the beams retain the feel of the old building. It is in a really great location in the centre of the village but tucked away in a quiet location so you can walk to all the local amenities including a renowned local butchers, bakers and no less than 3 country pubs all serving delicious food!
The cottage has a lovely outside seating area which is a real sun trap - great for catching the rays, enjoying a relaxing meal or just chilling out. And if you feel like being more energetic, there are some great country walks - right from your door.
Come and enjoy a warm welcome in the beautiful village of Ashwell. Steeped in history, the village dates back to the Middle Ages and boasts the oldest graffiti in Hertfordshire dating back to the Plague located in St Mary's, the village church.
There are many historic buildings, the start of a tributary to the river Cam is at the Springs and the village is surrounded by lovely countryside crossing the Icknield Way with interesting walks in unspoilt countryside and stunning views that have inspired many a local artist.
Ashwell is a thriving villare community only 20 minutes' drive from the stunning city of Cambridge with all it has to offer and just 40 minutes to London by train from the local railway station.
There are 3 welcoming pubs in the village which all serve excellent food, a renowned local butchers, bakers, village shop and Indian takeaway. There's plenty to see and do in and around the area with a village museum and many local events throughout the year - plus a great selection of National Trust properties all within 25 miles.
Ashwell is a wonderful place to enjoy a relaxing break away form the hustle and bustle of daily life and a great base from which to visit all the local area has to offer.
Our cottage is located in the centre of the village.
