Very nice place and location but had issues
Very well equipped house very good size with having three tables and everything you need for cooking and baking. We had 4 adults and two kids and there was plenty of space. Lots of thing in the house to do if rainy day. Swimming pool was very good plenty of chairs to chill next to the pool. Nice location and lots of wild life to see plenty of dears. Unfortunately we had some issues first one was after getting stuck in 3 hours traffic waiting for ferry to get to the house. We were ready to get in and relax we first got out and could smell sewers but thought nothing of it went to the door to get the key but the code which we had from homeaway was different couldn't open it we walk round the house and found the double doors unlocked we then found a folder and that had the right code. So maybe miss communication from owner to homeaway we wouldn't normally mention this but we had more issues so they started to mount up. The other issue was the gardener hadn't turned up and the grass was wild and in some places was higher than my 2 year old lad so couldn't use the garden to it's full potential and the grass was over grown round the pool we were there 2 weeks and never got cut even the old barn next door had its grass cut. The next issue which was the cherry on the top on the second week on Tuesday night my wife was in shower and it flooded not a little bit. the water went to the bed room next door so rang the owner which was helpful and the owner was coming to france the next day any way so said they be their at 11. At the single door the sewer water was running out. So me my wife and little man stayed in for owner and others popped out unfortunately the owner had a flat tyre so was late but as we where outside we noticed if you flushed the toilet water would come out the side of the house near the bbq and seating area not hygienic. Owner came got next door neighbour to see if they could rod it but didn't work so she rang the plumber they where to come friday so from Tue to Friday we had a flood every time we had a shower. We stop using the single door as the smell was terrible and it was over flowing all over the drive. Owner did bring us a bottle of wine for the inconvenience on wed she said the pool was green and put some solution so couldn't use for 24hrs and on fri had to be out as the plumbers were there so basically from tue to fri house was unusable. We were there for a holiday not to wait a round for people and sit in a jungle and waste water
I cannot apologise enough for the series of disasters which occurred. All of which in the 25 years we have had the house have never happened before the sewage system has worked faultlessy it is an aneirobic weir system ie bugs convert waste to water however it is sensitive to what goes down the loo and when we had it pumped out there were items there that were not condusive to the wellbeing of the system so we think over the Summer things had gone down and by the time Paul and family arrived the system had been killed however now pumped and cleaned and bugs renewed and ther was no problem for the next four weeks or in November when we went down. Re the land our normally reliable gardener has vanished so we were to put it mildly stymied however that problem has now been rectified.
Quiet, homely property in a good locat
The property has a good amount of space inside and outside but could do with a little updating including a second bathroom/toilet to make it more perfect. The neighbourhood is very quiet and the location is good for a variety of visits and activities in the area.
We have just completed updating the Bathroom and hot water system which was difficult to manage before. The second shower/loo is the next project once we have decided where to fit it in.
Unfortunately the house is built on clay so consequently the house moves which makes the opening and shutting of windows and doors a challenge sometimes.
Perfect
We had the most wonderful holiday here and really could have stayed another 2 weeks. The children adored the pool which was a welcome relief on the blisteringly hot days. Even on the 1 day it rained by 6 o clock the sun was blazing and we were sipping wine and cooking a BBQ.
The house was so well equipped with every little thing thought of to make the stay as comfortable as could be.
The location for us was perfect. Really quiet and peaceful but just a short drive into the village. And a bonus for me was the local boulangere made and sold artisan gluten free bread. Amazing.
The beaches were clean and beautiful and the market in Motalivet was fantasic. We love this place and the house we stayed in so much. Nigel and Elizabeth have thought of everything. Thank you. I think we'll be booking for next summer,
Tranquil treasure, just beautiful
What a charming place. Peacful, spacious, comfortable, such a treasure. Set idyllic location, with lovely surroundings, a cycle ride to either town to get stick in the morning. A laze by the pool which kept you cool from the sun trap patio.
Montalivet beach just a short drive away with a very busy market bustling away. Horseriding and lovely cafes/restaurants near the beach. Brilliant waves, not overcrowded, easy to park.
Had a rainy day but not cold and still BBQ'd every evening.
Didn't want to return home, just peaceful and tranquil thank you
Great property, very enjoyable stay
Location - Maybe a bit out of the way for some but there are other cottages nearby so you never feel "Alone". The village of Vendays Montalivet is a 20-30 minute walk along the forest tracks which can be negotiated by car with care. Cycling is also an easy option. The village itself has a new supermarket although we found service very slow at busy times. There are a couple of cafes and restaurants as well as a couple of smaller shops. All in all a very pleasant village. The nearest beach at Montalivet was excellent and I thought relatively quiet even on a Sunday in high season. Parking was very good and the beach only got crowded when the tide came in.
Property - Loved the large garden. Plenty space for games. The pool is great, perhaps not big enough for "lengths" but ideal for inflatables and games of water polo or volleyball. The outdoor eating area and patio is a sun trap and is a lovely place to relax.
Indoors, the kitchen is well equipped and on the odd rainy day we found eating our meals at the kitchen table still very pleasant as it is very light and airy. The bedrooms are nicely decorated, plenty of room and storage space and the beds very comfortable. The lounge is large, very comfortable and the wifi was a boon, especially as we could easily check the local weather reports! There is a huge selection of books and DVDs and this was especially appreciated by our children as we did have a couple of dull and rainy days and evenings (not to mention the most incredible thunderstorm!) I personally have mixed feelings about access to British TV. The kids again loved it so they could keep to date with Big Brother (Yes I know!) but I prefer to get away from home completely so I didn't bother with it. That's a matter for personal choice of course and it is appreciated that the owners have made this available.
One other observation would be that if 8 people were staying here, only having 1 toilet and separate bath/shower might make ablution time a bit of a squeeze but I'm sure that this could be managed OK.
To sum up, this is probably the best property in itself and for its location that we have stayed at in our various travels around France and it comes highly recommended
Spacious, peaceful and well equipped
This cottage is a fantastic find!
Set in peaceful woodland a beautiful and enormous garden which was great for the children to run and play in. Lovely private pool.
Inside everything was extremely well catered for, lots of books, games, home comforts, wifi, excellent kitchen facilities. Extremely comfortable beds too and loads of space!!
Perfect location only 10 mins form the beach at Montalivet Les Bains and 2 minutes from the very friendly little village of Vendays Montalivet where we found a good selection of local amenities and where we found our morning croissants each day!
Charming area, great variety between the surfer feel of the Atlantic coast and the older more historic look of the wine producing villages along the Gironde estuary.
We found a fabulous restaurant in Hourtin Plage called Le Grillon. The Moules Frites were amazing! Highly recommended.
Bordeaux was charming and only an hour away.
We were a little unlucky to have had quite mixed weather (but it was only the end of May) and as a result it was a little too cold to use the pool most days. However, we found fantastic safe cycle paths, horse riding, Wine tasting, tree running, play parks, picnic areas, the endless beach that was unspoilt and spotless, boating, to keep us entertained and when the sun did come out, the cottage with its very private and beautiful pool area was a fantastic place to be!!
The cottage was perfect, thank you so much Nigel and Elizabeth, we hope to return again :))
