About this property

A Haven in the Country-

Sprawling country home located in historic Washington, CT.
90 minutes from New York City and Boston, Litchfield County and its surrounding areas comprised of wonderful restaurants, little shops, galleries, historic homes, gardens, horse farms, spas, yoga studios, farm stands, golfing, and more.

The house is quiet, serene and private, yet convenient to the very best villages and nearby towns. Steep Rock Preserves, Lake Waramaug, and the Shepaug River offer many activities including hiking, biking, fly fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and tubing. Centrally located to lakes, streams, and nature preserves.

Set on 6 acres, the house has just been renovated with taste and refinement. It is furnished with period antiques, contemporary furniture, Oriental and Oushak carpets, and art from several well-known painters.

Technically 2 (oversize) bedrooms, the second living/screening room with a 75' TV has a sofa bed for 2, and the “office” has a trundle day (two twins) bed for 2. The office is very large and can easily be considered a 3rd bedroom.

The office has a 16-foot quartz desk overlooking the garden.
There is a professional-grade spa room consisting of a full sauna and steam shower within a large studio. Six yoga mats easily fit into the space.

There are 3 full luxury bathrooms, a powder room, a full wet bar with refrigerator, stainless steel appliances in the fully equipped kitchen with high-end kitchenware. The kitchen and pantry are perfect for someone who loves to cook.

The iron-wrought beds have sumptuous Belgian linen cotton bedding, down comforters, and pillows. The living room has a massive sectional sofa.

Relax outside in the 8-person hot tub (cool tub in the summer). BBQ gas grill and teak table and chairs on the deck for outdoor dining. One car garage with a large workshop space. Central heat and air.

Close to several private boarding schools including The Gunnery and Rumsey Hall for visiting parents or faculty.......The famed Relaix & Chateau Mayflower Inn and Spa is only a few minutes away.

Back to Paradise
This was our second stay in this property. The setting is spectacular, you feel like you are living in the woods. The house is equipped with more than you will ever need. There are expensive linens and towels, a linen closet full of pillows and blankets, everything in the kitchen is top of the line. The kitchen is perfect for one who likes to cook. The house is immaculate, everything shines. You can tell that the owners care a lot about their house and are willing to leave things that will make a guest very comfortable. The back yard area is so peaceful and it has a hot tub and an exercise cottage. The cottage has air conditioning, TV and a refrigerator. There are bicycles that the owners leave for your use. You really just need to show up with your clothes and toiletries. The owners leave the house equipped with paper towels, dish washing liquid and everything you need in the laundry room. We are expert VRBO users and have been renting for 15 years.....Nothing compares to this property. Basically, it's a haven you never want to leave. We are already planning our third year of vacationing at Nichols Hill Rd.

Fabulous Stay at "A Haven in the Country"
My husband and I stayed at "Haven" for two months in the fall and we could not have made a better choice. The recently updated home is bright, in a very quiet area, and well appointed with high end, chic (contemporary meets antique meets CT country) furniture and intriguing art. The two living areas on the first floor have large relaxing sofas and TVs - perfect for movie night, watching sports, or just gathering with others in conversation. The expansive upstairs bedrooms have comfortable, cozy beds with high-quality linens and private ensuite bathrooms. The large eat-in kitchen is sunny and very well equipped for small intimate dining or for larger family gatherings. We cooked and celebrated Thanksgiving there with two other couples - space was never an issue. The kitchen connects to a back porch which is perfect for enjoying a glass of wine or spirits from one of the local wineries/distilleries. The upstairs south-facing study overlooking the backyard and woods is a real delight - warm and sunny and perfect for curling up on the daybed to read or nap. As a bonus, the home has a very nice dry sauna which we used on several occasions along with a steam shower, outdoor hot tub, and exercise equipment. The Litchfield County area is beautifully situated among rolling hills with stunning fall foliage to enjoy, nearby land preserves to explore, specialty and antique shops to browse, and fine restaurants to indulge. Tanya is an exceptional host! Check in/out was a breeze, and she provided detailed home instructions as well as resources/suggestions to help us navigate the area like locals. Thank you Tanya for sharing your fabulous "Haven" with us!

Paradise in Washington, CT
As one turns into Nichols Hill Rd one is taken aback by the beauty of this property and it's perfectly manicured gardens. Once inside one realizes that this is a special house with special owners. Every little detail has been thought of. There was butter, eggs and milk in the refrigerator waiting for us after a long day of traveling. The entire house is equipped with the best quality items, the beds are soft with incredible linens. The house was immaculate, newly painted and beautifully presented. We had plenty of room for our belongings which sometime is difficult to find in rental homes. The house was devoid of many personal items which helped when our grandchildren came to visit and we didn't have to worry about breakage. The back yard and deck were so inviting, we sat out back for many meals. The house comes equipped with a full sauna (which we did not use ) and a gym (we didn't use this either) but its there as part of the rental. We just enjoyed our summer relaxing and basically doing nothing which is what we wanted. Thank you Tanya and Paul for sharing your home with us for 6 weeks!

We are a newly married Belgian/Dutch couple who have lived in NYC for over 20 years. Both of us have adult children from former marriages. We bought this magnificent house as a second home and have lovingly put a lot of work into making it a haven.

Why they chose this property

The house was bought in October 2019 and recently renovated with beautiful white oak floors, Dutch paint trim, art, and antiques. The open floor plan was created to enhance the incredible light pouring in from the garden. It is the ideal location for a couple or two couples who want the luxury of total relaxation in an idyllic, rural setting. The surrounding area is one scenic road after another with every activity one could want within minutes.

What makes this property unique

The Spa Room features a professional steam shower and sauna. The room is large enough for at least 6 yoga mats. The hot tub off the deck complements the entire spa experience.

The office has a 16' long quartz desk with large windows overlooking the garden. A perfect way to work from home.
