About this property

Impressive Old Stone House, between Bergerac and Sarlat

A delightful and spacious one bedroom house situated on the edge of the traditional village of Coux et Bigaroque. This a perfect holiday getaway for couples looking for a relaxing place to escape to.
The entrance leads you into a good sized, newly refurbished kitchen/diner with original beam over the door. A beautiful, bespoke oak staircase leads to the first floor where you will find the generous double bedroom and shower room. A large lounge is also located on the first floor with views over the pool and gardens.
Cool off in the private swimming pool surrounded by extensive terracing ideal for sunbathing, dining al fresco or watching the sunset with an evening aperitif. For those who prefer a shady option there are numerous trees to relax under or help yourself to the bounty of fruit on offer from the cherry, apple, pear, fig and nut trees.
A two minute stroll will take you to the heart of the village where you can buy your breakfast croissant from the magasin de producteurs, alongside locally produced food. The village boasts two good restauarnts where you can enjoy a three course meal, with wine for a reasonable price You will also find a bar, Post Office and a cave (selling excellent wine). In the summer months, farmers supplying the magasin hold a marché gourmand where their delights can be sampled (both food and wine) accompanied by live music. Sit down at one of the long trestle tables and enjoy the convivial atmosphere with the locals and other holiday makers.

The owner lives on site and will be there to welcome you and to help in any way possible on arrival. Then you will be left to enjoy your holiday, but if you need anything, the owner will be happy to help.

The house is ideally located to take advantage of all the area has to offer. If the outdoors is for you, then you are in the right place. From the bottom of the garden you can pick up walking routes which take you through the rolling countryside. For cyclists, again there are marked trails which can be picked up from the bottom of the garden (ladies and gents bikes available). Within walking distance is the River Dordogne which has a small plage (lifeguard in summer) as well as opportunities for those keen anglers. If messing about on the river is for you, canoes or kayaks can be hired in the next village.

This area is renowned for stunning castles, many of them dotted along the river, many within easy access from the house. If shopping is more your thing, there are a number of lively, colourful markets nearby with stalls laden with tempting local delicacies.

A real gem
We had a fantastic time at this gorgeous property. Shirley & Andy were brilliant hosts, welcoming & concerned that we had the best holiday, but went to great pains to make sure that they didn’t intrude on our holiday at all. The cottage is really lovely, the pool is beautiful & everywhere, pool & cottage, was spotlessly clean. The cottage has pretty much everything that you need, although as feedback only, a toaster & couple of egg cups would be great. Coux et B is a great base to explore this area, & the hotel restaurant, Le Chambellan, in the village is absolutely gorgeous with lovely staff.

Perfect base for Dordogne adventure!
Clean, light, welcoming property with pretty much everything that we needed for our week in the Dordogne. Shirley snd Andy were excellent (and very discrete) hosts. We were left alone to enjoy our break, but they were on hand to help with queries, whenever we had any. Coux-et-Bigaroque is a great base for exploring the Dordogne east of Bergerac.

A most relaxing holiday
We had a wonderfully relaxing stay. Shirley and Andy were wonderful hosts and extremely helpful during our stay, booking restaurants and generally giving advice on the local amenities. The grounds were beautiful and the private pool was the perfect place to unwind and relax. We had some incredible weather and so the pool was invaluable to us. It was beautifully clean and the water regularly topped up. We enjoyed eating under the pergola, but DO be aware of the tiger mosquitoes as they are prevalent during the hot summer months! The accommodation was lovely, if not rather hot during the night. The fan was in constant use! A beautiful area of the Dordogne and one which we would highly recommend. Wonderful local markets, fabulous food and some excellent vineyards . We will definitely return. Many thanks Shirley and Andy for your marvellous hospitality! Ruth & Steve.

Superb gite in a lovely village with amenities.
We had a wonderful week in this delightful gite. Le Coux has a lovely boulangerie a short walk away and a fabulous restaurant a bit further down the road in the village hotel. The swimming pool in the lovely grounds is beautifully clean and very private. An absolute joy to relax by after trips to the many attractions in the surrounding area, although a parasol would be an added bonus. Shirley was so helpful in booking restaurants and her knowledge of the locality. No air con but a welcome fan in the bedroom. The mosquitoes were a bit of an issue despite the plug in repellent gadget. Bring plenty of repellent and cream! The kitchen could have been slightly better equipped with cutlery (no small knives for cutting vegetables etc,) but not a problem overall. The dordogne is a lovely area to visit and I would highly recommend this gite to anyone wanting to explore this beautiful part of France
