Our location is central to Portland and the popular Boothbay Harbor region to the southwest and Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park to the northeast. A wide range of popular local mid-coast attractions and activities are available within every shorter distances.
We moved to this beautiful acre 26 years ago and have spent all the years since developing its gardens and landscape for beauty and enjoyment. We live right next door to the house/cottage (but conveniently out of sight), and this is our only vacation rental. We think of all visitors as our special guests.
David and Paula Blanchard purchased this cottage in 1989
Our place, while in-town, is peaceful and quiet. It is uniquely bordered by a seldom used meeting hall, our lawn and gardens, and a large woodland. Set well back from the street at the end of its own driveway, visitors to the cottage enjoy more than an acre of quiet and solitude, yet are still close enough to town and harbor in 15 - 20 minutes.
Perfect for two couples to share.
One-floor living, two full bathrooms, extra wide doorways, strategitically placed grab rails, entrance ramp, close-in parking all make this a great place for elders or impaired. A great place for recuperation, recovery, or just plain rest.
Our first trip to Maine could not have been better. Beautiful weather and accommodations.!
Fresh cut flowers were a nice touch.
Your community band home are a treasure. Until we meet again--
The Garden Cottage was well equipped and clean as a whistle. Bed rooms super clean and comfortable, plenty of hangers in the closets.
Had enough covers to keep you warm in mid winter. Bathroom well equipped with soap shampoo and plenty of hot water.
Kitchen well stocked with cups, saucers, plates, cereal bowls and ,plenty of silverware, refrigerator, micro-wave, stove,
table where all four of could play Rummikub into the late night. Living room well stocked with games and books about
Maine. No curfew and free to come and go at our leisure, with separate driveway. Outstanding would like to return.
Everything was as stated in the listing. The location is great for touring up and down the coast. It is very quite, yet close to down town Camden for ease of shopping or eating out. David and Paula are great host and tend to your need for any information about the area. This was our second visit in two years and hope to return again.

The "Garden Cottage" was far better than presented in the VRBO pictures. A large "cottage" with great kitchen, separate dining area, comfortable living room with tv and unit for tapes if needed. The cottage has two very comfortable bedrooms, and...two....bathrooms (one within the master bedroom area). A third room has a desk and a daybed, so can serve as an "office away from home", or a third bedroom. Washer & dryer in the cottage was a real plus for a two week stay. The Kitchen, by the way, has every pot, pan, dinnerware, glassware and utensils you will ever need. And then there are the "grounds". Beautifully maintained lawn, shrubs, and flowers make this property a delight to the eye. David works non-stop on the grounds to keep them in top form. Do not be surprised to find a vase or two of fresh flowers on arrival, and maybe even in the watering can on the porch!!
Finally, you will never find a location in Camden so convenient to everything midcoast Maine has to offer, but at the same time, a peaceful and quiet refuge. David and Paula are unobtrusive, friendly, and most helpful. Very gracious hosts, and we appreciated their offering the "Garden Cottage" for rent to people "from away". Highly recommend considering if you visit Maine!! And, thank you for having us as your guests. (Bill, Kelly, & Doris-Mom).
We first stayed at The Garden Cottage for a week in June of this year (2016). Two and one-half months later we returned for another week, this September. Oftentimes, return visits to a place fail to meet the level of enjoyment engendered by the first visit. Definitely not true for us. In fact, our enjoyment of the cottage and hostess and host Paula and David actually increased. We are already looking forward to a return visit in 2017.
The outside was a treat for the eyes to behold. My family enjoyed walking outside on the grounds and admiring the beautiful flowers and
greenery. The Blanchard's work hard at keeping the outside property looking lovely and it shows! The views of the gardens surrounding the cottage are breathtaking.
And the inside of the cottage is as big a treat to behold as the outside. Again, their hard work is evident the first step you take into the
cottage. Beautifully and tastefully decorated, and as functional as your own home would be to stay in.
And the Blanchard's themselves were the perfect host and hostess. Many days were filled with suggestions of places to visit, provided by them.
We had a lovely and comfortable stay at the Garden Cottage and would recommend it to everyone!
Briefly, the property is beautiful, the house is commodious and warming, the owners even more so. More than well-supplied,they have thought of everything. David and Paula are available, but not intrusive, friendly and informative when asked. All your fears of renting the oversold property go out the window when you experience a stay at their Cottage.
Our rental week is Sunday pm to Sunday am, except by special arrangement. Sleeps 4. A queen-size bed in 2 separate rooms. Daybed in a 3rd room available at additional $100/week or part thereof. Ideal for two couples or a couple and one or two singles. Our 'Garden Cottage' is larger than it looks in the photos. We are not on the water or have a water view, but you'll save a bundle of dough and can walk to Camden Harbor or drive to Rockport Harbor in a few minutes.
