About this property

The Pear Orchard Lodge - enjoy the good life in the heart of the Nelson region!

Whether you just have one night here or 7, there is plenty to see and do. The Pear Orchard Lodge is located just outside Richmond, close to stunning beaches and great walking tracks including the Abel Tasman National Park, and the famous Tasman Great Taste Cycle Trail. Whether hiking the Te Araroa trail, kayaking, cycling on the Nelson Tasman Great Taste Trail, mountain biking, fishing or going to the beach, the region offers something for everyone.

Our farmlet sits slightly elevated within an idyllic rural setting in Hope, overlooking the Waimea Plains with its orchards, wineries and incredible produce. It includes paddocks where we graze some cows and sheep, the home orchard, with some fruit trees and home to our chickens, a wetland area with native bush and bird life, a big pond, loved by our ducks and geese and of course the pear orchard.

A cluster of buildings forms the heart of the farmlet: the old farm house (where we live), various barns and outbuildings and the lodge, which can accommodate up to 16 guests. (Note: Book our Shearer's Cottage to accommodate up to 4 more guests!) With its large sunny verandah, garden area and associated 'hay barn', the lodge is also a great place for small events , corporate retreats and family get-togethers.

While purposely rough and rustic on the outside, the lodge building follows clean lines and is designed to a high spec inside. The design is inspired by the local vernacular and refined to blend in with other outbuildings around the farm. The building's proportions and exterior interpret the typical old barns seen in the Tasman area with their ramshackle patchwork of old corrugated iron, hand-made carpentry detailing and overhanging roof lines.

We love the genuine country life and take great pleasure from sharing it with our visitors. We invite you to visit our little slice of paradise and hope to meet you soon.

Wonderful, peaceful location, beautifully and thoughtfully set up accomodation
We really enjoyed our stay at the Pear Orchard Lodge. The place is beautifully set up and thought has been given to what guests will need. We had the whole lodge booked for a family get-together, and it was fantastic to have room for everyone and no 'dud' bedrooms. The kitchen is well set up for catering to a large group, without ever feeling like you are on top of each other, and it was nice to have the large dining table and a serving table. One thing that we agreed would have made it perfect was a comfortable lounge space (particularly for the day we were 'rained in'), but nonetheless it suited us very well. Would definitely recommend.

The Lodge has a fantastically equipped large kitchen, lovely large rooms with space for everyone to spread out. The house has a lovely feel and the wood burner fire is fabulous on those cold nights. Fully recommend a stay.

In 2013 we gave up our professional jobs in Auckland and moved to The Pear Orchard. In the years following, we renovated the old farm house, repaired the outbuildings and designed and built The Pear Orchard Lodge and the Shearer's Cottage. There was never a dull moment... ;)

We have lived abroad and travelled extensively - and loved it! By creating The Pear Orchard Lodge we can now share "the good life" with domestic guests and travellers from around the world. The lodge with shared kitchen and dining facilities is for people like us, who like accommodation with character, all the comforts of home and with the ability to prepare their own meals.

We love the genuine country life and take great pleasure from sharing it with our guests We invite you to visit our little slice of paradise and hope to meet you soon.

Why they chose this property

The Pear Orchard offers the benefits of a peaceful rural lifestyle with amazing views while being only a skip and a hop from Richmond with its shopping and amenities. Nelson and Mapua are both only 20min away and three National Parks, the Abel Tasman, the Kahurangi and the Nelson Lakes are all well within reach for day trips.

Our farmlet sits slightly elevated within an idyllic rural setting in Hope, overlooking the Waimea Plains with its orchards, wineries and incredible produce. It includes paddocks where we graze some sheep and cows, the home orchard, with a small variety of fruit trees and home to our free range chickens, a gully and wetland area with native bush and bird life, a big pond, loved by our ducks and geese and of course the pear orchard.

A cluster of buildings forms the heart of the farmlet: the old farm house, various barns, outbuildings, the lodge and Shearer's Cottage, which together accommodate up to 20 guests.

We love the self-sustainable lifestyle that this property offers to us and enjoy sharing it with our guests.
