We spent a week in this lovely cabin, which we arrived to find very clean and ready for our enjoyment. The construction of the cabin is excellent with a lot of attention to detail. The rooms were big and roomy -- excellent seating in the living room area and the bedrooms had a lot of walking space and places to tuck suitcases and traveling bags out of the way. Our host had provided us a nice load of firewood and other niceties were found throughout the cabin -- books, videos, magazines, games, walking sticks, spices for cooking, shampoo, etc. There is a barbecue grill and a wonderful fire pit for roasting marshmallows. We can highly recommend this as an excellent place to get away and partake of the local activities, walk through the mown meadows to observe all the wildflowers, or amble down to the babbling creek nearby. Lots of privacy and a great respite from city-life and the pressures of day to day responsibilities. The owner(s) was friendly, helpful, and put us at ease to make our stay enjoyable to the max! The photos offered on this site are nice, but do not clearly depict how nice this place really is -- a hidden treasure indeed. Highly recommend!
The seclusion made our stay very rewarding. Caught minnows in the brook, and fished the Meramec River which is a short drive to the public access. Nightly bonfires, and daily walks in the Meadows, not forgetting to feed the goats some peanuts on the way. We also got some great pics of the Doe that visited us daily. Sam and Nora are a short walk from cottage if needed, but we didnt have any issues during our stay. We only left the property during our 5 day stay once, and that was to go to Bourbon for a couple of chocolate malts, stopping to fish on the way back. If a peaceful stay away from it all is what you are looking for, this is the place. Even our "city dog" enjoyed herself. (Don't forget to get some honey on your way out. It is VERY good!)
This small cabin is perfect for a family getaway and one of the few that accepts dogs! We had a nice family weekend. I loved that there is no wifi and cell service so we really spent quality time playing games, talking, and watching a little DirecTV. We drive a Honda Civic and had to really take our time on Cottage Lane, much of the road was big ruts ...so be careful and take your time! The driveway up to the cabin is very steep and took a little maneuvering. Sam was great and visited us on the first day to make sure we had everything we needed, made us feel like important guests! We plan on returning next September! Highly recommended!!
We can't say enough good things about these Bourbon homes. Each year our group stays at both houses for a float trip weekend and always have an amazing time. The homes are nice, clean, and can accommodate a good sized group. The property is beautiful, relaxing, secluded, yet conveniently located. Highly recommend!!!
wonderful experience cozy relaxation at its finest with a breathtaking View. definitely will be going back and the goats were a bonus
This was our second visit. We find this cabin very comfortable, private and relaxing. We enjoyed long walks in the woods and down by the creek. The goats are cute and very friendly. We had problems with the coffee maker and it was fixed right away. Sam & Nora are very friendly and want everyone to be happy with their stay. We will be back.
We are located just 10 miles south of Interstate Highway I-44 and 75 miles from St. Louis, Missouri. Come and explore the beauty of the Missouri Ozark Mountains. Tour the caves, vineyards and wineries in the area. Canoe the many rivers and streams in the area. Take a trail ride through the surrounding hills. Six Flags theme park is within a short drive from the cottage.
