Charming old stone house in the Morvan, tastefully restored, comfortable (WLAN)

Photos and Description of this Cussy-en-Morvan holiday house

Great views, calm and comfort for up to 5 people

The detached house, about 200 years old, was completely restored only in 2012 with high quality materials. We managed to maintain its original french rural character while connecting it to modern design and comfort (WLAN and SAT-TV).

It offers a charming place for a couple or a family with up to 5 persons of incredible calm and with a lot of light in the 'Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan' within the heart of Burgundy.

The ground floor is a large living room (35 m2) with French beamed ceiling, oak floors and a cozy lounge area with a modern stove. Also in the ground floor there is the spacious and well-equipped kitchen (22 m2) with a table for up to 10 persons. The first floor is accessed via a beautiful staircase. There is another very generous and also light-filled room (30 m2) with oak flooring, which serves as a bedroom (1 double bed- 200 x 160 cm) as well as a second living room. Connected to this room is a spacious bathroom (7 m2) - with walk-in showers and window - and a small (9 m2) Bedroom (1 double bed- 200 x 140 cm) with a gallery offering another cosy place to sleep (especially for kids).

Around the house there is enough space to relax or dine on the spacious terrace (you will find all the necessary garden furniture, including a grill). From almost any place there is a wonderful view: at the back of the house there are romantic meadows (about 3h), with sheep and Camargue horses, and to the front of the house there is the village and the landscape of the beautiful Morvan.

A lovely house with quiet and scenic surroundings!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in this beautiful old house, which has been so carefully refurbished, leaving authentic elements intact.

We spent a week's holiday here with our three children aged 8, 10, and 12, and we all loved it. It's so nice and quiet there in the hills, yet close to the little village, with only sheep as neighbours. The starry night sky was also a sight for sore eyes.

Our favourite things to do in the area were swimming in the little lake next to the camping municipale in Anost (a nice village, where we also had dinner at the perfectly acceptable pizza restaurant), and swimming in Lac des Settons and hiring a water bike with slide (the children loved this!). We also visited Beaune, Autun, and Saulieu, all very much worth a visit.

But after every visit to anywhere we always enjoyed coming back to the lovely house in Cussy, where it was so easy to feel at home.

We were also made to feel very welcome by the owner, mr. Brox, who met us when we had just arrived, and showed us around the house. He always responded very promptly whenever we had questions.

We won't forget the feeling this house gave us, and there is every chance that we will want to come back in the future.

Picturesque location, peaceful comfortable holiday

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Gîte de Thivelle in for one week in mid-April with our two children, aged 3 and 7 and had a truly wonderful and relaxing time.

The village of Cussy-en-Morvan is quaint and very quiet and the position of the house relative to the village is ideal for having a proper get-away-from-it-all. Sheep and horses were our only close neighbours! The house was very comfortable, clean and well equipped with everything we needed. The pictures provided are very accurate, and if anything, it was better in person. A selection of toys, books, games and DVD's was a much appreciated bonus! The house is heated with two wood-stoves which served to make the house warm and cozy despite quite cold nighttime temperatures that week.

Although we were happy to mostly explore the local area by foot, the house is well positioned to explore many of Burgundy's attractions by car. We did make the trip to Vézelay and recommend it highly. Beaune and Autun, which we have been to on previous trips, are very accessible by car from Cussy and are also well worth seeing.

Contact with the owner was very straightforward and he was always very prompt in responding to e-mails. Instructions for the house and detailed suggestions for eating and sightseeing were provided in advance and we had no troubles once we were there.

In short, we would like to thank Mr. Brox for the use of his lovely home. It would be our great pleasure to return for another stay in the future!

Wundervolles Gite im romantischen Morvan

  • 5 of 5

our beautiful burgundy home in the forest

  • 5 of 5

Thos became our home from home for 2 weeks and were quite sad to leave

Despite 1 week of rain (the other constand sunshine) We hafd a wonderful time. The roaring fire was perfect for a cheeseboard each night and the main bedroom big and spacious. Georges was soo helpful with everything i asked. The area is lovely and very easy driving. We ventured out to salieu, dijon, beaune, vezelay' chateuneur, nolay, noyers (favourite small village), semur and many others including flavigny (where chocolat was filmed). The people in burgundy are very friendly and there was plenty of lovely food, be sure to check out market days for each village. The hous is surrounded by nature and goats sheep horses cows even rabbits passed by. Thankyou geoeges for a wonderful stay and we hope to return again.

A little piece of paradise in the Morvan

  • 5 of 5

We had a perfect week in Thivelle cottage, it was a highlight of our month in France! The cottage is light, airy and beautifully appointed. The surrounding countryside is gloriously green and the children loved the sheep. We enjoyed many walks, swimming in the lake and exploring gorgeous little Morvan towns.

Georges is a wonderful, welcoming host and we were happy to be his first (but not last) visitors from Australia. I only hope that one day we can return to this little piece of paradise for longer!

A beautiful house for a peaceful holiday

  • 5 of 5

The house was as fine and personel as expected and we fell welcome right from the start.

We enjoyed the green surroundings as well as the many possibilities for trips.

Cities, nature or just a walk.

For us a perfect place to cook nice meals, calm down, enjoy life and build up new energy.

We would certainly tell family and friends about this fine place.

Car: recommended

The house is situated within the beautiful 'Morvan Regional Park', raised on the edge of a typical local village with about 400 inhabitants.

Le Morvan

The Morvan offers a romantic and varied landscape of mysterious forests, pastures, endless hedgerows, streams, lakes and sleepy villages. In addition, he is due to its location in an ideal way a starting point for exploring Burgundy

- Autun (about 20 minutes), a Gallo-Roman city with good shopping, cinema and market

- The vineyards of the Cote d'Or with the beautiful wine town of Beaune (about 1 hour)

- Vezelay (about 1.5 hours)

- Dijon (about 1,5 hour)

- Lac des Settons (30 minutes) with great water quality for water

- The southern wine regions Mâconnais and Cluny (1.5 hours)

- Saulieu with its cathedral and its famous restaurants (about 25 minutes)

If we would sum up, we could conclude: an ideal spot to recharge your batteries
