Your place is inviting and comfortable with cozy and charmingly decorations. The view is spectacular. We will be back. We even stayed an extra day because we hated leaving. So what's an extra vacatiion day if you get to spend it here?
I stayed from January 18-22, 2010. The owners were friendly and easy to contact. The unit was great for my elderly dog as he did not have to climb any steps to get outside; the back door opens to a shared, unfenced patio and he could walk straight out onto the grass. Everything was immaculate when I got there, and the heat was already on in preparation for my arrival. Plenty of extra towels and linens, and artifical logs were stocked for my use. Internet connection was a simple cable hookup. I enjoyed a trail ride at the stables down the road, and local restaurants Sirianni's Italian Cafe and Hellbender Burritos had fabulous food. They are across the street from each other in Davis, WV. Shop and Save grocery store and Dollar store are next to each other if you need to pick up anything extra. Saw wild turkeys and deer in the woods. Owners provided a helpful scrapbook with information on local activities and restaurants.
My recommendations are to get directions, as the place is a little hard to find and my GPS found the entire area baffling. Also, turn on the hot water in the morning while you're brushing your teeth; you will be done brushing long before it gets warm, then you can wash your face.
There is nothing fancy about this property. It is just simply comfortable, clean and cozy. After a weekend stay here if you don't leave feeling rested and restored then there nothing that will get you there. This condo offers a lot of nice surprises that are not advertised. Nothing bid just those little things to make you feel at home. We put on a bunch of miles just riding though the mountains and soaking in the beautify. and every night we found another unique place to eat. This was a last minute treat to our-selfs I would urge you to treat yourself.
We spent a 4 day ski weekend at Black Bear Resort. Our late arrival was no problem as the key was waiting for us right outside the lodge door. The directions to our suite were easy to follow even though we arrived at 11 pm in a snowstorm! Our room was warm, welcoming and smelled wonderful! The suite was very clean and all we needed was easy to find. The bed was really comfortable which isn't always the case in hotel rooms. It's a short drive to Timberline & Canaan Valley to ski as well as snowshoeing, hiking and ice skating at Canaan Valley State Park. After a day of skiing or snowshoeing, it was great to relax by the fireplace and watch a little TV. There are a number of great restaurants in nearby Davis & Thomas if you want to venture out. Having a microwave & fridge were handy enough for us to have breakfast & lunch in the suite each day. I would definitely suggest AWD or 4WD in the winter. Those without had a few problems getting around after the storm dropped about 8" of snow overnight and all through the next day. We look forward to our next trip to the beautiful Canaan Valley and another stay at Black Bear Resort.
We stayed at Black Bear for a long weekend. Absolutely beautiful in the winter. Very close to ski resorts and restaurants. Really enjoyed our trip. We loved that the condo owners allowed us to bring our dogs. We will return again soon!
Black Bear Resort was such a nice home away from home. The suite was extremely clean and neat. The jacuzzi was a nice treat as well as the fireplace. Our dog loved that he could roam around in the open area off the patio. We've never experienced the night sky and stars so close...it was beautiful.
The resort is not a far drive from Davis where you can find really good food at the local resturants. There is a grocery store not far as well to pick up things that you may need. The Blackwater Falls were absolutely breathtaking!
We would recommend this resort to anyone and we will certainly be back ourselves.
We vacationed here in the fall of 2010. It was so nice to be able to have our two Weims with us. They are well behaved and pampered and we couldn't imagine going on vacation without them. The owner was very informative and courteous and she is a dog owner too, so she knows the problems pet owners sometime encounter when looking for acceptable lodging for guests with pets.
The unit is super clean and well supplied. We felt like we were right at home. The cleaning staff even had a fire log going when we arrived. Don't know if this was planned or just luck, but it was a nice touch.
Appreciated the DVD's (we and the dogs chose "Shiloh" of course) and the great TV and internet access. Planning on going back again. This is a great place. We have a vacation home at the beach, but this mountain resort is a refreshing change of scenery and pace.
