This gorgeous property could not be more perfect for anyone who wants a taste of village life in wine country. The home itself is spacious, beautiful, with all the amenities you could want. It's right in a cozy but vibrant community, with a great bar/restaurant just a few minutes walk away. Being there during harvest season was a real treat as we were witness to tractors and wagons busily heading out of the village for the grape harvest while we watched from just outside our front door, enjoying our morning coffee, sitting on aged stone benches. Location is excellent as it is removed from a hectic city setting, but is within easy driving distance to many many points of interest in the area. Nadine was lovely and helpful with getting us aquainted with the area.
This huge apartment is in a charming square in a historic village with its own castle in beautiful Rioja. It's very very well equipped and has everything you could want. Nadine the owner is very welcoming and hospitable. She gave
us home grown vegetables from her garden and helped us with a phone we accidentally left there. The local towns of Haro and Logrono are fantastic to visit if you love wine and food. Visits to Burgos and Vitoria Gasteiz are very worthwhile too. Highly recommended!!!
The renovated apartment consisted of the entire ground floor of a 200 year old building. The renovations retained the atmosphere of the old building yet provided a spacious, light and airy residence. Nadine was a generous host and supplied us with ample produce from he vegetable garden. The only down side was the hefty cleaning fee that we had to pay on departure. We felt this fee was unreasonable.
If you are traveling around Spain, and are anywhere near the Rioja region, this is a must-stop on your trip. The accommodations are EXACTLY like shown in the photos, and absolutely immaculate. Every part of this space is perfection, and so clean. Nadine went out of her way to make sure we were welcomed and comfortable, and we shared great conversations about Sajazarra and the region. Oscar always has a smile and such a pleasant demeanour - we wish we could have visited more! What a beautiful surprise this stop was. The only bad part was leaving - our children cried, not wanting to go. The local pub is just a few doors down and very social and welcoming. The food there was seriously delicious and very reasonable. We walked around the village a few times with the kids, exploring the river, the play area, the back roads, the castle, and the plazas. It is a very small village, with so much character and life... you will fill your camera with photos. Our entire family had some of our best sleeps in this suite - the beds and bedding were so cozy, and the space was decorated and furnished so comfortably.
A couple of days, we ventured in the car to nearby villages for wine tours, tapas, and exploring. It was some of the most amazing scenery and landscapes as we've seen in Spain. We really can't say enough about it - the accommodations, the hosts, the details, the location, the village. ALL top notch.
This apartment is a very special place in a very special village. Like many other homes in Sajazarra, Oscar and Nadine have restored this village house in keeping with its history and at the same time, it is very comfortable to live in. We stayed here 11 days in the middle of a six week holiday in Spain and found it to be a perfect place to relax. The landscape is beautiful, the many villages interesting, surrounded by vineyards and colorful fields with mountains in the distance. The apartment is very clean, spacious, has a large modern bathroom, full kitchen and everything you need. The interior shows the historical stone structure and the design elements are charming. There are nice family touches that add warmth to the spaces. The WiFi is very good so we had all we needed to disconnect when we wanted and be in touch with the world as needed. Easy driving, easy parking and once here, you will want to walk and relax. Loved the bread and grocery service right outside the front door! And, of course, loved the many Bodegas. Muchas Gracias, Nadine, Oscar and family. We hope to come again.
If you want to experience Rioja with the best hosts that we have experienced in five trips to Europe, stay at Nadine and Oscar's place. First the location is perfect. A small village, but still close to Haro and the wineries that you must visit. And fresh bread, eggs and groceries from a truck that stops 25 feet from your front door. Parking is easy and the house is even better than the photos. Big kitchen with everything you need, and a nice dining area. And the wifi worked great which to us is very important. And Nadine and Oscar are the best hosts we have had in five trips to Europe! Nadine's knowledge on restaurants, wineries and any other things to see is second to none. Make sure to ask her about the steak place she recommended in Labastida. And Oscar made sure we were taken care of at the bar in Sajazarra. They are both simply the best. If I could give this place 6 stars I would. Make this your base for wine tasting, and you won't be sorry. Thanks to both of you for a GREAT stay.
The small historically significant place in Sajazarra was 11 the first time. Century mentioned. Many architectural witnesses of the past centuries to the appeal of this small town from which lies at the confluence of Aguanal and Ea, surrounded by vineyards, in the northwest of the Rioja Alta.
The Castillo in an elevated position determines the townscape. When restoring an old wine press was discovered in the vaults, which brought the owner's family to the idea to create this traditional place of wine. With the acquisition of arable land at the foot of the Obarenes Mountains, the foundation stone for the Bodegas Castillo de Sajazarra was laid and in 1973 the first wine was produced. Were grown Tempranillo, Graciano and Garnacha and expanded to cry now excellent quality.
Sajazarra is the starting point for visiting many excellent bodegas in a wine-growing area, which has contributed to the worldwide fame of Rioja for centuries. In winter, the opportunity to combine wine enjoyment with winter sports is: In forty-five minutes you are with the car in the ski resort of Ezcaray.
Two generations have the story of Sajazarra marked: The Ruiz de Loizaga and the Loma Osorio. Of the latter family offers a descendant, the artist Elvira Isasi Loma Osorio, a large ground floor apartment in their mansion.
