About the property

Modern holiday house up to 10 people, Hot Tub, South - Iceland

Our modern and comfortable holiday home Stekkholt is located near the town of Selfoss in southern Iceland. It is an ideal holiday home for Iceland travelers and offers even large families (or even 2 families) with up to 10 people enough space.

The house has 4 bedrooms, one of which is a large master bedroom, a desk and a walk-in closet has a large King-size bed with 213cm length. The middle two bedrooms are furnished with a queen-size beds and wardrobe. The fourth bedroom has a bunk bed 3, which has in the lower level with a queen-size bed and in the upper level with a single bed.

The double beds are comfortable box spring beds

The sofa in the TV area gives an additional sleeping-place for one person. Please aware that this area cannot be dimmed with curtains, so we recommend an eye mask.

The well equipped kitchen is spacious and and is equipped with a 4 Cooking zone ceramic stove and the an oven. There is a large fridge with freezer, water dispenser and Ice-maker.

The supermarkets in Selfoss have a good offer and best price by Icelandic standards.

There is a dishwasher and running hot-water.

The tab water is fresh mountain water and excellent and best drinking water, so no need to buy bottled water.

Microwave, coffee maker, kettle and toaster are also available in the kitchen.

The spacious and bright living / dining room offers a large dining table which has enough space for 10 people, large and comfortable sofas.

The living room offers a beautiful view of the mountain Ingólfsfjall.

The TV area has a comfortable sofa and a large flat-screen TV with satellite reception that offers numerous German and some English and French channels. A Blu-ray player with a selection of DVDs, especially for children, is available. A Wii games console is also available.

For kids, we also have some toys in the house.

The house has two bathrooms, both equipped with a shower and toilet.

The hot tub (hot pot) is powered by geothermal heated 38 ° C / 100 ° F warm water and can accommodate 8-10 people. It´s a pleasure to soak in the warm water, especially at cold winter nights, when the northern lights are dancing in the sky, an indescribable experience.

The large and partially covered terrace offers garden furniture (summer only) and a gas BBQ.

The supermarkets offer a wide selection of grilled meats, sausages, and grilled potatoes in many variations.

For our younger guests we can provide a cot and a highchair.

In the garden there is a large playground with a trampoline and basketball basket.

The garage is not accessible and not part of the rental agreement.

On the meadows around the house are most of the time horses. If you are interested we can organize a riding tour.

You can enjoy your stay in Stekkholt. It is the perfect starting point for day trips to attractions such as the Golden Circle with the world famous Geysir Strokkur, Gullfoss Waterfall, Þingvellir National Park, the warm lake Laugarvatn and the crater Kerið.

The south coast with attractions such as the Þórsmörk, the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, Dyrhólaey, the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull is a nice daytour we highly recommend.

To Reykjavík is only a 45 minutes drive and to the International Airport Keflavik it´s a 90 minutes drive.

The Town of Selfoss is only 4,5 km /2.8 miles away. There are good restaurants and cafes, supermarkets (Bónus, Krónan net) and numerous shops, petrol stations and garages, swimming pool with water slide, hotels and guest houses, a campsite, a hospital and several doctors.

Selfoss is incorrectly listed on different maps as Sveitarfélagið Árborg.

Please observe that the final cleaning is mandatory and needs to be paid cash during your stay ( 150,-€ or equal in Icelandic Crowns)!

Beautiful, modern home

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous, spotless vacation home! Plenty of room for our family of 7 and contained everything we needed for a fabulous vacation in Iceland. Great location for seeing all of the beautiful sights in the south of Iceland. The house is next to a farm with Icelandic horses that we enjoyed petting. Grocery store was close to home and we cooked virtually all of our meals at the house and brought lunches on our days out. Kitchen is spacious with plenty of supplies. We enjoyed the hot tub every night and the trampoline as well. One side note, if you have a bunch of unruly, messy children, or if you are a bit of a slob yourself, this is not the place for you. There are lots of rules and dos and don'ts. I suppose it's necessary to maintain such a perfect home, but it did create a bit of stress for our large family. All in all, great home and location!

Nice Modern Holiday House

  • 5 of 5

We, 4 couples, stayed in this large and comfortable house for 3 nights in May. It is close to the town of Selfoss and is a convenient base to visit the golden circle. We did the hike to the hot spring river near Hvergerdi and totally enjoyed it. Thank you Sven!

Lovely house

  • 5 of 5

Had a lovely week in this outstanding house. Ideal location being about 40 mins from the National Park and only a bit further to Geysir and Gulfoss. The house is extremely high quality and very well eqippped. Spotlessly clean, warm and tidy. The recycling takes a bit of getting used to so be careful with that one. The Hot Tub is not as we would have expected - no jets so it's just an outside small pool basically but no real problem. Plus the heat goes off at about 11.00pm and gets cold quite quick. Also no hot water for showers after this time, but these are minor points. Overall a great house and we'd book here again.

Owner's Response: I´m a bot irritated with the comment about the missing Hot water after 11pm, because there is no shut down for Hot water, it´s there 24 hours a day. I only can imagine that there had been maintenance works on the community hot water supply that night. And yes, our Hot-Tub is only a Hot-Tub and no Whirlpool.

Fantastic house, better than could have hoped for

  • 5 of 5

This is such a lovely house, I don't think the picture or write up does it full justice. It's really well kitted out, fantastic kitchen and utensils. High spec finish everywhere. Large laundry room for drying wet clothes. Beds really comfortable. We were a group of 8 friends and it suited us perfectly, but it's well set up for families as there's plenty entertainment options, the Wii, tv, dvds and outside the trampoline and basketball hoop. Great location, easy to find, but nicely secluded. Stunning view. We saw the northern lights too! Will gladly return. Thanks

Fantastic house well situated to explore Iceland

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful house with great views when the weather cleared. Very cosy, good kitchen to cook up a delicious leg of Icelandic lamb or whatever else tickles your fancy, well situated to explore & I managed to take in Þingvellir, Geysir, Gullfoss & Kerið in an easy drive; Grindavík along the south coast & the Blue Lagoon, Seljalandsfoss & Þórsmörk which was stunning and the glacier lagoon at Jökulsárlón.

Want to come back again, fantastic.

Outstanding Home Base to Explore Iceland!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 8 appreciated this home for our stay in Iceland. We used it as home base for day trips around the Golden Triangle and to the Reykjanes Peninsula. Our excursions to Skaftafell National Park and Snæfellsnes peninsula were full summer day trips but returning to a comfortable home made it worth the drive.

The home is immaculate, well-equipped, and well-organized. The bedrooms are large enough to give privacy and come with good storage/closets; the beds are comfortable; and the bathrooms are impressive. Our boys enjoyed playing chess and Monopoly while we prepared dinner. We were happy to enjoy the hot pot on our final evening in Iceland.

We would be happy to stay in this home again should our travels ever have us return to Iceland.
