This property is an ideal couple getaway for any occasion. It is secluded on an old coffee plantation above Kealakekua Bay, with a dramatic sweeping ocean view of the coastline to the south. Kealakekua Bay is renowned for its terrific marine life.
You can kayak, hike, or horseback ride to the Captain Cook Monument on beautiful Kealakekua Bay. Escape the noise and traffic of Kona, stay at The Captain's Suite located just a six minute drive from Kealakekua Bay also located in the historic and rural agricultural district of Captain Cook.
This property located above Kealakekua Bay and the Place of Refuge is a great place from which to explore the rest of the Island and then return home to your own private quiet hideaway. Snorkel Kealakekua Bay, visit the Place of Refuge State Park, take a day trip to Volcanoes National Park and the East side of the Island, visit the rain forest, beautiful Waipio Valley and a whole lot more.

The tropical art deco style of the 'Captains Suite' is pleasing to our guests. It is situated privately just north of the main house, and it also has a 180-degree sweeping ocean view.
The Captain's Suite has private parking close to its own double-door entry, which opens to raja slate floors throughout.
Other special features include granite counter tops, a full bath with double sinks, a double walk-in shower, and two person jetted tub, which is privately situated to enjoy swaying bamboo, nature and coastline view.
Additional amenities include cooking facilities, a dishwasher, a refrigerator, filtered water, a King-size bed, an kitchen island, a lounge area, free laundry facilities (separate from the main house, soap & softener incl.), ironing board & iron, bath robes, (Bring your own slippers), paper towels, TP, baggies, wax paper, foil, coffee filters, salt & pepper & sugar.
Beach towels, mats, beach chairs and coolers provided. These accommodations are equipped with everything you'll need for a comfortable stay, including abundant storage, a coffee grinder, cable TV, a DVD, and a CD player. Entry is at ground level with no steps. However, the rental is not otherwise handicapped equipped.
This is a smoke-free environment for your enjoyment. Sorry, no pets.

We purchased this property in 1988. We built the main house and carport.
In 2000 we enclosed the garage and added two units to our 1 acre property.
We loved the large stand of bamboo, so it was a focal point in the design of the jetted tub for the Captain's Suite.
To achieve the feel of the outside we built large screened lanai's and double sliders and windows to let in light and the views of water, flora and fauna. However always with privacy in mind. Each unit has its own parking area close to the front door.

This property is in the beautiful coffee belt of Hawaii. Green and lush with beautiful
ocean views. We love the tropical plants and animal life here. Birds and gecko's alike love the papaya and bananas. Turkeys and pigs roam the macadamia orchids beside us, as well and below us. We also have a small shopping center that provides a grocery store, hardware store and post office just up to the hwy and to the North.
We don't get any hwy noise unless a siren occasionally, from police or ambulance.
We love the rural-ness of the location, yet the convenience of a grocery store and hardware store.
It's only a 15 min. drive to Keauhou Shopping Center where you'll find restaurants, grocery store, shops and movie theater.
Also only about 12 min. down to Two Step for snorkeling and kayaking.
Many coffee farms and macadamia farms to visit and a must visit is the Japanese
living coffee farm. Several very good restaurants here in the area as well as fresh fish as the local market and fish market. Sundays is the local outdoor market just down the road.
This evening marks our 12th sunset on the islands--5 on Big and 7 in Kaua'i. It is hard to imagine a more opportune location for a sunset than this, Last evening - the Winter's Solstice - the sun fell into the Pacific on a clear horizon illuminating a clouded band above, with a fiery glow that would make Pele proud. The sun this evening looks to promise another dazzling show. Tomorrow we return to Hilo and then begin our journey home to Atlantic Canada, the close of a wonderful vacation that included swimming with sea turtles and cruising the Napal'i coast. Much to remember including this fine suite and lanai. The gecko's were a treat to watch scamper about and munch on insects out by the barbecue light. We're very happy with this location, as it proved to be both a great launch point for west-side dy trips and for ond day off doing absolutely nothing in particular. Mahalo! Bill & Gail
This property had it all! The view was absolutely breathtaking! The house was very clean and welcoming! The owners were very friendly and helpful! They had masks, snorkels and fins for us to use as well as a small day cooler and beach chairs!
We explored this entire side of the island from this location. We hiked, snorkeled, visited a coffee plantation, found hidden local beaches and had nonstop adventures. We highly recommend this house! Whether you are looking for a quiet escape with amazing sunsets from the lanai or nonstop adventure, this rental will exceed your expectations! It is a hidden paradise!
We are Washington State residents who are fortunate to have a direct flight to Kona/Big Island. For our first trip, we looked for lodging away from the tourist center, but with easy access to multiple parts of the island. The Captain's Suite is situated south of Kailua-Kona on Hwy 11, one of the main highways of the island. The suite is beautiful with a kitchen setup that allowed us to cook most of our meals on site. The frogs serenade the property at night and the birds welcome the morning. My partner and I have different sleep schedules, so the open floor plan did impact my experience, but only slightly. I could have brought an eye mask and that would have been sufficient. The headphones for the TV are a great idea. The entire property is breathtaking with a 180 view on the ocean. Remembering that is not your home, there will be a few issues (soft pillows and open shower) that aren't perfect for your needs, but they do not detract! We strongly recommend this property for a couple looking for a quiet setting in paradise. Many thanks for this experience!
I'd planned my Big Island trip around this rental, and I was not at all disappointed. The location overlooking an expansive ocean view is worth its weight in gold, and that is topped by a spacious interior and perfect layout. The immense bathroom with its slate-lined double shower overlooking a stand of tropical bamboo is a real highlight, but the entire apartment is quite delightful and very comfortable. It's an easy drive to lots of restaurants if the roomy kitchen and table-with-a-view does not entice you to stay inside. (The Coffee Shack just down the road offers amazing breakfasts and lunches, with colorful geckos for company.) The owners' home is adjoining, and they are both very friendly and helpful, while at the same time offering plenty of privacy. This is a WONDERFUL choice for Kona area lodging.
We loved our stay at the Captain's Suite. We usually look for a one bedroom since one of us stays up later than the other. However, with the layout of this studio suite, the comfy king bed is off in its own alcove so it worked just fine. The kitchen was well equipped although it could have used a big pasta pot. The lanai is screened and has a wonderful sofa where reading and napping are perfect. The spacious bathroom was perfect for two. The only drawback to our stay, and certainly not the fault of the owners, was the near constant VOG. We know there was a gorgeous view, but we couldn't really see much of it. The neighborhood is lush and we especially enjoyed the few hours we spent in the nearby Peace Garden. Forgot to mention the dogs are super friendly. Thank you for a special stay.
An absolutely incredible rental! Beautiful, immaculate and fully equipped! The views from the lanai are no less than stunning! Quiet and away from the Kailua/Kona crazyness! Perfect for couples.

I admit, I often correlate the quality of a vac rental with a minimum asking price. I stand corrected with this BEAUTIFUL vacation rental. Although it is ECONOMICAL in price, we did not have to forfeit quality and comfort! When browsing through the photos here, keep in mind that none do the property justice, just saying! The property is so much roomier than we expected, and so many extras were not even mentioned! The slate tile is soooo beautiful, and its throughout the entire unit
WELL STOCKED: kitchenware and basics (spices, olive oil to linens and gear (snorkel, coolers); washer/dryer was a blessing; NuWave hotplate was GREAT!! The bathroom is much, much bigger than the pictures reveal, and the artwork... beautiful! Also, the 2 VERY BIG skylights, one over the kitchen and another in the bathroom... really add beauty to the place. In the bathroom, you see the towering bamboo outside through the skylight! Melaleuca soap! The unit is well taken care of and SUPER CLEAN!
The VIEW! WOW, pictures don't do it justice. You'll be so overwhelmed when you first walk in! We were also very happy it was screened in, and the screen is so tight, you hardly notice it.
LOCATION: there are so many places that are in close proximity. Full market. Fruit stands. Liquor stores. Antique shops. Banks. Gas stations. Restaurants (our favs below). The beach, such a short drive away. Even the hospital was close.
PRIVACY: It was so private, which is what we were looking for. You'll probably never see others unless you need something, and we always felt safe with the owner's 2, VERY FRIENDLY (but protective of the property) labs. It was a comfort to have them there, trust me!
We were a bit concerned it didn't have air conditioning, this is usually a deal breaker for us. But we took a chance, and we did NOT miss it at all! There were a few breezy days, and also a couple days it wasn't so breezy... but we were comfortable either way. We live in Honolulu, Oahu, and this was our "staycation". We look forward to staying here AGAIN! Yes, this place would be one of those "best kept secrets" locals share amongst themselves! (wink!)

Renowned Kealakekua Bay and Place of Refuge National Park are just below this unique property. A short 12 min. drive will put you at the waters edge. Kayak over the the Captain Cook monument, have lunch and snorkel along the coast line for unbelievable views of beautiful fish, eels, turtles and frolicking dolphins if your lucky.
Visit a coffee farm, botanical garden and have dinner at the renowned Keei Cafe.
