At Calabash Cottages we specialize in private getaways for two guests. This charming Caribbean cottage, Sago Cottage, is the perfect setting for a romantic getaway or a honeymoon. The open airy design and the cheerful colors are distinctly tropical, while the cozy ambiance of Sago Cottage will make you feel right at home. Sunrise and ocean views can be enjoyed from the four-poster bed. Moon rises from the deck or while lounging in the hot tub under a star-filled sky are unforgettable experiences. The secluded location of Sago Cottage is still just a short drive from our lovely white sand beaches, the national park hiking trails and a variety of restaurants. The cottage has a full kitchen and both indoor and outdoor dining.


IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT RATES AND POLICIES: Our rentals run from Sunday to Sunday. We have two rates: Low season from April 16 to December 14 and High season from December 15 to April 15 and those rates are as listed. The only additional charge is 12.5% hotel tax. We do not collect a damage deposit. Our 25 year relationship with guests has taught us that this is not necessary. We treat our guests with respect and we have found that they return the favor. There are no extra costs for reservations, cleaning or service. If you encounter any additional charges when requesting a detailed quote it would be from the advertising site where you found us. Calabash Cottages is an established company and information about our rentals is easily found.

Car Rentals: Since the purchase of Homeaway and VRBO by Expedia we have seen an attachment at the bottom of our ads with them encouraging guests to book car rentals through their site. Because of our unique location we strongly advise against that. You do need a 4 wheel drive vehicle. We have for over 20 years done business with a very reliable company, Courtesy Car Rental. We believe in them enough that we forgo the commission they would give us and to apply it as a discount to your car rental. Please discuss car rentals with us before reserving. Our most important interest is in satisfying our customers. But the recent take over of our advertising sites by large corporations is constructing communication barriers. We can always be contacted directly.

Tennessee travelers - 6th year!
What can we say? My husband and I have returned for 6 years and always love Sago cottage. The views are incredible - especially the sunrises. The house is lovely and equipped with everything you would need - snorkel gear, beach chairs, beach towels, fully equipped kitchen, etc. The way the house is situated, there are constant breezes (but just in case - there are 3 ceiling fans and a free standing fan). Susan and crew provide support for setting up the jeep rental, the ground transportation, grocery locations, etc. We really love every detail - even the villa kitty - Tigger (stays outside but is available for attention!). The island, the house, and the view - incredible and highly recommended! We will be back for year #7!

Paradise Found!
We have just returned from a fabulous week at Sago Cottage. A friend recommended this cottage, and it is actually more beautiful in person than in the online photos. The views of Hurricane Hole, The East End, and Tortola from the cottage porch are stunning. The cottage comes stocked with everything you need to enjoy the amazing St. John beaches: snorkeling equipment, beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, and coolers. We snorkeled every day at a different St. John beach. It was like swimming in an aquarium-the turquoise waters were teaming with fish, turtles, and rays. This was our first trip to USVI and the Calabash Cottages staff were so pleasant and professional to work with. They provided travel suggestions for a private airport taxi and a Jeep rental company that made the trip even more stress free. If you are looking for a very private and quiet getaway while enjoying the laid back Coral Bay end of St. John, Sago Cottage is the place to stay!

Get Away from it all at Sago Cottage
This was a great getaway week for my husband and me-we went for our birthdays! The cottage location is fabulous, with great views, privacy, and leaves you feeling removed from the rest of the world. Yet all the comforts of home are provided - well stocked kitchen, hot tub, nice towels & linens. As much as I loved the view from the front deck, the view upon waking up to the sun coming in the windows and looking out over the islands was even better! Groceries on the island are pricey, but the staff of Sago took us to the grocery store upon arrival and gave us advice on nice places to eat. Snorkeling was great every beach we visited. This is a great place to visit for active, laid back people who like to explore and aren't into staying at glitzy hotel type places. Boating is great here, too. Not a good island for biking as roads are curvy, hilly, and have tight bends to get around.

A mesmerizing view
We had a wonderful time at Sago cottage. It is so charming and comfortable and stocked with everything we needed, including beach and snorkeling equipment which were invaluable. Our favorite spot was sitting in the comfortable adirondack chairs on the deck and looking at that amazing view of the islands. And added to the beautiful view is the lush foilage surrounding the cottage which enhanced our enjoyment and was home to a variety of birds. We especially enjoyed feeding sugar to the pretty little bananaquits which were frequent visitors. As much as we enjoyed all the activities of the day, i.e. swimming, snorkeling and hiking, we always looked forward to returning to "our" chairs on the deck and enjoying the view. The service of the Calabash staff cannot be beat and they were so prompt with any questions we had. I could not imagine a better staff and a more lovely spot for our first trip to St. John.

Loved our time at Sago!
My husband and I had such an awesome time at Sago cottage. It was exactly what we were looking for in a romantic, fun filled honeymoon. The house was beautiful and very well maintained. I would love to come back some day to stay at Sago in Coral Bay!

We are fourty year residents of St. John. My husband is a retired builder. We built Sago cottage with about 90% of our own labor. It was truly a labor of love. We designed the sort of cottage that we would like to stay in ourselves. We like privacy and beautiful views. When we vacation, natural beauty is our highest priority, During construction we went on a trip to a nearby island and were disappointed. We made a vow not to ever misrepresent our homes and to always do our best to insure your precious vacation time is well spent at one of our Calabash Cottages. We have stayed true to that for over 25 years. We are very happy to answer any questions to help you decide if Sago Cottage or one of our other Calabash Cottages is a good fit for you.
