The city of Makarska grew around a natural harbor protected by a picturesque peninsula of Sveti Petar (St. Peter) and the cape Osejava. It is the only harbor of this kind between the mouth of the Cetina and Neretva rivers. In the past it provided protection and safe harbor during stormy weather to sailors, pirates and merchants, and nowadays it does the same for yachts, sailing boats and tourist ships. This contributed to its development into a trading port, especially during the Ottoman and Venetian occupation. Today, there is a ferry line which runs a few times a day from Makarska to Sumartin on the island Bra?.
Makarska has always been the center of the surrounding region known as Makarska Riviera, both in an administrative, political and economic sense, as well as a center of culture, education, and since the mid twentieth century, tourism.
Today, it is a city of more than 15 thousand inhabitants that encompasses picturesque villages at the foot of the Biokovo Mountain, including Veliko Brdo, Puhari?i, Kotišina and Makar (which is where the name of Makarska comes from).
Makarska is one of the most famous tourist destinations on the Croatian coast, attractive for its nature and good climate, rich in tourist attractions and full of hospitable hosts.
To this day, Makarska is known for its sandy beach, which is almost 2 kilometers long. The walkways are lined with pine trees and surrounded by luxury hotels, tourist facilities, and gastronomical havens, and there is plenty of fun for both adults and children.
Makarska is located below the mountain of Biokovo (1762 m), which protects it from the harsh continental climate and is responsible for its rich Mediterranean vegetation, mild winters, long, warm summers cooled by a refreshing breeze called maestral.
Makarska has more than 2750 hours of sun each year and the air temperature above 20°C from July to September. During these same months, the crystal-clear sea also averages a temperature of above 20°C.

During the summer months the harbor fills up with yachts and tourist ships, while young people crowd the main Ka?i? square enjoying entertainment and cultural performances.
As the night goes on, Makarska becomes livelier and livelier, and its cafes, restaurants and discotheques fill up.
The best way to become familiar with the history of this city is by visit¬ing the Franciscan monastery which recently celebrated its 500th anniversary. The monastery boasts a picture gallery, library, one-of-a-kind Malaco-logical museum (dedicated to the study and preservation of mollusks) and the Institute of Mountains and Sea. The church of St. Marko is located on the Kacic square. On its north side are: the Gojak gallery, located in the old school building, public library, the school of music, and the headquarters of the Makarska Riviera radio. The city museum can be found on the waterfront, as well as the church of St. Filip. The renovated church of St. Petar is located in the St. Petar park, a spot with a beautiful view of the city, magnificent Mount Biokovo and the open sea. Makarska's geographical position is 44° 17' 38' latitude and 17° 1' 20' longitude, which places it approximately in the center of north-western half of the Makarska coast.
Rare are the regions that can be as proud of so many natural varieties as Split - Dalmatia County can.
The mountain chain, including one of Croatia's highest mountain, separate Zagora with its continental characteristics from the Mediterranean beach atmosphere. This region is among the most beautiful in the world. Here you can find both shallow waters and the open sea, wild rapids and peaceful river beds, the most beautiful Mediterranean islands alongside rough cliffs with endemic species in the middle of the open sea, deep lakes and the still unexplored richness of the underground caves
This villa perfect for us as a young family. The house was immaculate and had absolutely everything in it we needed. The hosts were prompt to responding to mails prior to our arrival. They were extremely friendly and attentive (the washing machine stopped and they were at the villa within 20mins to sort it out) and even bought us ice cream. The property is approx. 10 mins drive from Makarska centre and so a car is needed. It is set at the base of Biokovo mountain, away from all the hustle and bustle of Makarska, stands quite alone and has the most splendid view. The outdoor space was wonderful, plenty of places to sit / eat and the pool (although was smaller, than we imagined) was well kept. Inside was spotless, spacious and modern. If you want a beautiful Villa to relax in but want to be near to a bustling resort, then this is definitely one to consider.
Our family visited Villa Keti at the beginning of June and found it to be a fanstasic place. The location has stunning views of the sea and mountain. It is both peaceful and within easy reach of town, shops and beaches. The villa itself is very comfortable and extremely well equipped, a home from home. The owners were great and helpful. We could not fault the place and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. We would definately recommend to others.
We had a wonderful stay in Villa Keti 24.5. - 31.5.2014. The owners were great and were waiting for us when we arrived. They introduced the villa and it's facilities to us and were really helpful in every way. The Villa itself was just as beautiful as we imagined and the view was even more beautiful than you could ever hope for. The location of the Villa is just fantastic for everything... you can just sunbathe in peace and quite if you will, but everything is really close if you want to make a days trip to a beach, the islands etc. We visited Hvar and Brac, the national park of Krka, Split.... and we even took a drive to Sveti Jure (a peak of 1762m!) and the best part was that it's basically just next to the Villa! That was something to remeber :)
All the restaurants we visited in Makarska were good, but I can totally recommend Restaurant Jeny which is a couple of kilometers from the center of Makarska. Fantastic food, fantastic location and perfect service! Overall we had a perfect holiday and I can't wait to get back!!
Cheers to all

We loved the house, the pool, the location, the neighbors, everything!
Makarska is so centrally located along the Croatia coast so this house was perfect for us! Close to a big city with everything you need (grocery store is less than a mile away), ferry's to the islands - everything.
GREAT walking trail along the base of the mountain which is also terrific right from the house.
Zoran is terrific. Anytime we called with a question - we was speedy with an answer. The pool and the BBQ are fantastic. Being gone for 2.5 weeks it was great having a washer there and a line right outside to hang our clothes on to dry.
We would stay here again in a second! And hope to in the future!
Beautiful haus very good equipment.
We come in this house every year and every time is better and better. Thank you Danijela and Zoran.
