Overview

Photos and Description of this Ketchikan holiday house

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

There's a magical feeling when you're at Coho Beach House -- one guest referred to it as 'The Healing House.'

Seeing marine life swim right under the deck; enjoying the weather and views (rain or shine) from any room; watching the bird activity, the passing boats and sea planes all lend to the pleasures of this home away from home.

This spot is known for having the best sunset views around. And if it's stormy, just cuddle up, listen to the waves, and watch from the warmth of the house. Or, if the water is calm, there are also kayaks available for paddling around Ward Cove and the nearby Channel Islands

This is the perfect place to relax, have a little romance, or if you are looking for outdoor activities like fishing or hiking, the beach house is just a short drive from anywhere on the island.

Even though we have a minimum stay, if you see a 'window' of fewer nights available, please feel free to call or email us about a shorter stay.

Suitability:
  • long term rentals available
  • Minimum Age Limit for Renters

About Maura Odell

Friends for 40 years, partners in Coho Beach House since 2004. The Odells and the Hooks dreamed of living near the water for years, and when they became owners of this property it was a dream come true. Both couples live on 'The Point' by the beach house, and are available if needed, but also respect the privacy of guests. Three are life-long Alaskans, and the fourth has been here since 1979, so this is home for us.

Maura Odell purchased this house in 2004

Why Maura Odell chose Alaska

The location of the beach house is known in the community as having the best sunsets in the area.

The beach house was built in the late '40's or early '50's and had been well used and loved by many, but it was in dire need of repair.

We considered demolishing it, but instead rebuilt it from the pilings to the roof. The interior layout remains the same, but it's much more comfortable now.

It was truly a labor of love, and we love to share its charm with our guests.

What makes this house unique

Outstanding wildlife viewing at your door. Watch the tide come and go; seals, sea lions, and the occasional whales swim by; and eagles in flight from the windows and deck at Coho Beach House.

The stairs to the beach offer easy access for tide pool exploring, and there are two kayaks available for paddling around Ward Cove and the nearby Channel Islands.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our adventure to Ketchikan. Your guesthouse is so warm and cozy, it was nice to come “home” to at the end of the day. It has been so relaxing and awesome. We were able to see some wonderful wildlife while sitting at the house such as Killer Whales (thanks to Dan for the call), seals, starfish and a few Bald Eagles. Our timing for our trip did limit our ability to enjoy many of the tourist attractions, but being able to sit and look at such a wonderful view made up for it since I’m not sure we would have wanted to be gone a lot anyway.Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of heaven. We will be back.

Vacation Cabin

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful cabin! We really enjoyed our vacation there. We got a chance to see and film a couple of killer whales coming through and the bald eagles woke us up on more than one occasion in the mornings. Couldn't have asked for a finer wake up call!!

This was our first visit to Alaska and we hope to return. Thanks for letting us stay in your sweet cabin!

As lovely as ever

  • 5 of 5

This year was our third stay in the home. It's breathtaking every time. It never gets old. Our four year old loves it so much that she tells her teacher and friends that she can't wait to go back to her blue house in Alaska.

The house is always very clean and well appointed. It runs like a well-oiled machine. We've stayed at many VRBO homes. The Coho Beach House has spoiled us. This home is the standard.

Well done! Again!

Fabulous place to stay!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was an excellent home. The reality of the setting exceeded the photos. The views were amazing. We could see float planes, fishing vessels, birds , marine mammals and glorious sunsets. The house was well appointed with kitchen items and over all was very very comfortable. We utilized the kayaks that were available and had a great time paddling around the bay. The landscape around the house was lush and had ripe huckleberries right out the door. Our hosts were very helpful and pleasant. We would love to go back. We would recommend it without reservation.

Trip of a lifetime

  • 5 of 5

This was the most amazing trip ever! The Coho beach house is stunning- the sunsets are beautiful and the moonlight shining on the water takes your breath away! We plan on returning! You can't loose- it rained a few days and it didn't matter- it was still amazing. I would wake up to bald eagles flying by- just beautiful.

The house has everything you need, was very neat and clean. The location is great, close to the airport. The owners are very nice and welcomed us with a salmon (we cooked it the night we arrived and it literally was the best salmon ever).

Once in a lifetime

  • 5 of 5

Stunning, simply stunning. The views, the beach, the town and the people exceeded every expectation. Low tide brought sea stars, crabs, clams and otters to the shore. High tide meant the ocean at our feet from the wrap around deck. Kayaking and fishing (6 Lingcod in 20 minutes) steps outside the door. The wildlife included bears, bald eagles, seals, sea lions, deer and salmon at low tide. Forget the cruises and live Ketchikan.

There is no better place to stay in Ketchikan

  • 5 of 5

My son and I came up to Ketchikan for a week of fishing and fun. We loved the beachhouse and all that had to offer. The house is comfortable, immaculate and offers incredible views. A definite Must Return spot!

Especially in May and June, the eagles and seals are around daily. Later in the summer you can pick fresh red and blue huckleberries just outside the kitchen for your pancakes.

Year round beach combing and tidepool exploring. Kayak into Ward cove to see the seals, or cruise aroung the Channel Islands.
