About Catherine and David

We have owned the Sharpsburg Cottage since 2000.

Catherine and David purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Catherine and David chose West Virginia

Because it is only 1 hr from the city. It is a great get away from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. You can really relax here at the cottage. Take a nap on the hammock or unwind in the hot tub.

What makes this cottage unique

We fell in love with this property because of its location. The C&O Canal Tow Path is located just beyond our front yard. We spend time walking and biking along the path during our visits to the house. There is a small country store two doors down where you can walk and get ice cream. One of the first things we do is walk down to the river and take a dip. We are five minutes from Antietam and close to many other local attractions. We would spend every weekend in the country if we could. The cottage is fully equipped as if it were are primary residence. Our lives have become very busy so we don't spend as much time as we would like, so we have decided to share our wonderful home with others. ENJOY!!

Our 2016 Summer Stay at the Quiet Country Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is our third trip to the Quiet Country Cottage. We absolutely coming to the cottage. It is very quiet and homey. There is plenty to do in the nearby towns. We took advantage of the bicycles in the basement and biked the C&O canal. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching the birds and feeling the breeze. We used the grill and cooked out a few nights, sat on the porch swing, and just enjoyed the quiet. We actually had cell service on the porch (this may be new), so we didn't have to walk down to the end of the drive way to make a cell call. Everything was nice and clean when we arrived with a fresh set of towels to use. We forgot a few items (sugar, foil wrap) and it was nice that the house had these items in the pantry already. My husband went to Nutters (the local ice cream place) and must have had twelve scoops of ice cream all together. They make their own ice cream and we enjoy seeing the same staff each time. I highly recommend a stay there.

We plan to go back this October depending on availability.

Fabulous cottage for a great get away. Location is perfect for bike rides on the canal and kayaking on the Potomac. Cottage is very nice. Enjoyed dinners on the deck, soaking in hot tub and reading on the swing on the back porch. Will definitely return again.

We enjoyed our stay here very much. The cottage was comfortable and had all the things we needed for a relaxing weekend. Everything was clean and well maintained. The location is great for all sorts of activities. It's an excellent place for spending time with the family. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Return Trip

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at the cottage. The location is great, with easy access to bike the C&O Canal Trail or paddle the Potomac River. It's a great place to get away but yet be close enough to restaurants and other services.

Fabulous place to stay!!

  • 5 of 5

We took our grandchildren to this lovely little cottage as it was convenient to all the historical sites (not to mention right on the C&O canal and the Potomac!). Although we are sure that the grandkids had a great time at the various historical sites, they seemed to enjoy running and playing in the open country more. The cottage is in a very quiet area with little or no traffic. There is plenty of room inside and the deck is wonderful! The landscaping is lovely and we wished we could have used the firepit for s'mores. The hot tub was a hit with the kids as well. The only drawback to the cottage was there was no washer/dryer or dishwasher. Especially the washer and dryer would have been really nice with the grandkids. The dishwashers we brought with us were handy and fun🙂򠠠We will definitely stay there again in the future.

We provide drinking water. The property water is provided by a cistern and we prefer to not have you drink the water. It is safe and is stored in a 2,000 gallon water tank that is pumped into the house. Just like at home but water does not come from the main water supply. We provide a water cooler (cold/hot) water and extra 5 gallon bottles for your drinking water.
