Overview

Photos and Description of this Tybee Island holiday condo

Condo, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Designed for two, the Herons' Nest condo is a private and unique hideaway. Nestled in Tybee's historical Venetian Terrace District and sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean and the Back River Inlet the Herons' Nest offers a quiet retreat for honeymoons, anniversaries and rest and relaxation for hardworking couples. Lovingly designed by Tybee artists, Fred and Malinda Urvant, the condo reflects their eclectic Art-Deco style of design. Original paintings by the late Soho artist Larry Urvant and photographs by Fred Urvant adorn the walls. Restored Art-Deco furnishings and white tile floors complete the condo's cozy design.

Play on Tybee's scenic Back River Beaches and return to your own private tropical garden to rest and relax. Enjoy a cool drink on your spacious screened porch or soak in the warm waters of your own private 4-person Jacuzzi. Rejuvenate in a soft-water shower and wrap yourself in fluffy towels of Egyptian cotton and sleep on European style linens. Luxury at the beach is only a moment away during your stay at the Herons' Nest.

We invite you to experience the true flavor of Tybee. Beautiful beaches, scenic landscapes, historic sites, excellent cuisine and a laid-back 1950's culture. Since the early 1900's Tybee has been called a utopia and we could not agree more. Please join us at the Herons' Nest where pleasant memories begin.

About Malinda Urvant

Fred and I are both transplants from the East Coast who met in Atlanta. Our dream was to return to the Atlantic Ocean and in 1994 we began a search for the perfect spot. I had been retired from Dupont Corp. after 20 years and Fred was ready to make a career change. Our search ended on Tybee in the Historic Back River District. My mother moved from Canada and settled on Tybee with us and my son and grandchildren settled in the city of Savannah.

Malinda Urvant purchased this condo in 1995

Why Malinda Urvant chose Coastal Georgia

Tybee was the perfect little beach city, quiet, picture perfect and so small that no one lived more than a few blocks from the beach. Housing values had not exploded yet and you were able to get a good value in a fixer upper.

** fast forward almost 20 years** Tybee is still the perfect little beach city and has retained it's 1950's atmosphere.

What makes this condo unique

You only have to spend a few hours on Tybee to know that this Island is a one of a kind spot and be captured by it's unique culture. Close to Savannah and activities; Tybee offers a peaceful contrast. A calm, quiet and peaceful atmosphere is abundant. Walking the beach, riding bikes and watching sunsets is complimented by the generous and friendly nature of Tybee's local population who feel just grateful that they are able to reside on this little piece of paradise.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have been to Tybee many times- and never knew what we were missing-until now. This special place is definitely a home away from home. Rick and I had a wonderful time reconnecting away from everyday life. We've decided that I'll get a job at the IGA and he will play his guitar at the Pavillion for a living_and we will just stay with Fred and Malinda from now on. Sorry all other guests-guess you are out of luck-are plans are made!! LOL Fred and Malinda are warm, delightful people and we hope to know them better in the near future. The bikes and hot tub were our highlights and the screened porch is just so inviting.

thanks guys for the obvious care you have for your guests.

Lot of love until next time!

Relaxing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is our third stay at The Heron's Nest! All you need to bring are your clothes and toothbrush! Fred & Malinda have thought of all your needs ahead of time and provided everything you could possibly need. The jacuzzi was lovely on the chilly evenings and the new bikes provided an enjoyable touring experience of the island. See you in spring!

Perfect Honeymoon!

  • 5 of 5

We can not say enough good things about our stay at the Heron's Nest on Tybee Island! Fred & Malinda were wonderful hosts & the house had everything that we needed. The beach equipment was so handy & they had plenty of towels. Neither of us had ridden bikes since we were children, but we really enjoyed them! The screened in porch & secret garden in the back were so relaxing. I enjoyed my coffee & a nap on the lounge chair almost every day. We also loved all of Fred & Malinda's artwork hanging in the house. We can't wait for our next trip to Tybee! The Heron's Nest feels like home now!

Perfect Tybee Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We were so happy with our stay. Fred met me and walked me through the home. They were so gracious. Everything we needed was there. The bed was SO comfy. The screened porch was our favorite spot and we spent most of our time there. We loved that two bikes were provided and they were brand new. There is nothing quite like a bike ride around Tybee. I'm thinking of buying the exact same bike because it was so great. The kitchen was well stocked. The secret garden was gorgeous. The location was excellent too! We will rent again and I would highly recommend staying at the Heron's Nest.

The property was clean, neat and complete. Screened in porch was great as was the jacuzzi and bikes.

We had the BEST time. Such a wonderful getaway place. Close enough to the beach, town and restaurants that you could walk or bike. We really enjoyed getting to know a part of the island we had never seen. It is quiet and away from the tourist scene too, which was nice. Everything is provided for your comfort. The bed is ridiculously comfortable and the space was warm and cozy. Just big enough for two. And what can be said about the jacuzzi except aaahhhhh..... You too will fall in love with the Heron's Nest (and with Fred and Malinda Urvant). It is definitely our new home away from home on Tybee! Rick and Renea Hall

Owner's Response: Thank you for your great review. We think of you and Rick everyday and how perfect it would be if you two were living on Tybee with us. Tybee is getting back to normal, though there are a great many trees down that still have to be removed. They are staging them in the North Beach parking lot and will get a chipper to make them into tree mulch. They say the pile is 30 yards long and 20ft. tall. It looks like the city will be in mulch for years. We thank God that we are fine and the Herons' Nest escaped any damage. Hope you are both fine and give us a call when you need a place to stay. Fred and Malinda

Anniversary weekend

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have vistited the Herons Nest 5 times, we absolutely love it!!! We love Tybee Island, and we love the Herons Nest... It's walking distance to EVERYTHING, we rarely even move our car when we are there, unless we make a trip to Savannah. If you are looking for a nice relaxing peaceful vacation with your husband or wife, to reconnect or just enjoy each other I highly recommend the Herons Nest!! It is awesome. Fred and Malinda are amazing, they recommend the best restaurants and have great suggestions on places to visit while on the Island. Over all the Herons Nest is a fantastic home away from home. We love it!!!!!
