Guestbook comments from the manager

We spent a fabulous week in this spectacular house.

It met and exceeded all of our expectations. The view was breath

taking! The house is so comfortable and inviting. We slept with the

windows open and the sound of the waves crashing the shore.

The location was exceptional - close to the beautiful sandy beaches

in Kailua, easy drive to Honolulu and North Shore. Everything we

needed from beach towels/toys, pool toys to spices/utensils in the

kitchen were on hand. Laura with Trinity was so helpful and

responsive. We can not wait to return!!! To the owners... Mahalo for

sharing your beautiful home!

Wow! Our first impression of the property was breathtaking, our living experience excellent!

  • 5 of 5

Fresh linens, sundries and a welcome basket of goodies awaited us on our arrival. One of the owner's property managers Lianne gave us a thorough run through of the property and amenities. This coupled with an invaluable " notebook" of house info with insider secrets to Kailua made our stay an easy transition. The well stocked kitchen (including a spice drawer) made our meals easy to prepare. The neighborhood is peaceful with families of all ages. I can't say enough about the kindness and consideration of our hosts. Our vacation had to be extended unexpectedly for a few days and Richard was gracious and as accomadtng as anyone could hope for. All in all our experience was amazing, I'm actually hesitant to write too good of a review because I am afraid Kaimalino Kai won't be available for our next visit. To Richard, Lianne and Ramon a heartfelt Thanks for your kindness!

Trip of a Lifetime!

  • 5 of 5

Just concluded our stay at Kaimalino Kai and it exceeded my high expectations. I was here with my 81 year old mother - who grew up on Oahu, but has been back only a handful of times in the past 60+ years - my two younger brothers, who had never been to Hawaii, and my younger sister, who was here 40 years ago as a child. After a long flight delay to Honolulu, Lianne the property manger was very gracious and waited for us to stop and see family nearby before we checked in on a Sunday night. Then, we all fell asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing into the rocks just outside the house, anticipating the sight of the sun rising over the ocean in the morning...and it did not disappoint. The view through the windows that encase the upstairs great room is spectacular; you don't ever want to leave (my mother's cousin - who has lived all 86 years of her life on Oahu said exactly that when she came to visit!) The master bedroom and bath are spacious and luxurious, and the guest bedrooms very roomy and comfortable (one brother and I shared the dual beds in the 3rd bedroom - he's 6'5", I'm 6'3" - and we had plenty of space). The kitchen has all you need, the outdoor grill is easy to use, the pool is great for an afternoon dip, and the lower deck is a great spot to hang out with a drink as the sun goes down. You are an easy bike (very nice one's provided) ride or short drive from either Kailua or Lanikai beach, and close to great breakfast, lunch, or dinner eateries in Kailua or Kaneohe (our favorites: Cinnamons, Buzz's and Kalapawai Cafe). And, it's only a 20 minute drive over the mountains to Honolulu, or you can take a leisurely drive to the spectacular scenery of the North Shore. Lianne and Ramon were easy to work with if you need anything; thanks to you and Richard for making our trip a wonderful experience that we will never forget. Mahalo!

Dramatic view!

  • 5 of 5

We (six adult family members) stayed for the Christmas Eve to New Years Eve week, and had a wonderful time. The manager Lianne was very responsive and helpful. She met us at the property upon arrival and gave us a tour and overview of the house, and was easily accessible by text and cell phone call

The location of the house is in a high-end neighborhood, right on the water. It is very close to a Safeway grocery store and within walking distance (about 15 minutes) to a nice beach. President Obama was staying at a house within walking distance. The view of the water and coastline is the highlight of the property. Being on the windward side of the island and during the winter, the wind and waves during our stay were relentless but spectacular. It was not a place where we could lie out on the beach and relax due to the wind, but we enjoyed each morning and cocktail hour taking in the drama and power of the waves and the view. The sun rises on the water/view side, and sets in the backyard, which is what makes the front yard pool and lanai outside the kitchen so valuable and pleasant. The sun sets over the mountains and palm trees view in the back and is beautiful, which you can enjoy from the lanai or from a chair by the pool while barbecuing.

Our only critical comments are that the pool was cold and therefore not enjoyable for swimming in the winter weather, and the barbecue was not cleaned before our stay. There are two full bathrooms downstairs with the three bedrooms. One is ensuite with the master, but the other two bedrooms (4 adults in our case) share the one other bathroom, although there is a full bathroom upstairs also.

While there, we spent our days at Makapuu beach and lighthouse hike, Lanikai pillbox hike, horseback riding at Kualoa Ranch and Pipeline beach, golf at Koolau Golf Club, kayaking to the Mokuloa islands from Lanikai, and a day in Waikiki; all of which are within reasonable driving distance. We would definitely stay again!

Owner's Response: Mahalo for your kind review and thoughtful insights. I have also noticed that the pool water is quite chilly during the last few months and we're bringing out the solar pool heater installer to check to ensure that it's operating correctly. It's possible that the temperature sensor is no longer functioning properly and may need to be replaced. FEB 16th UPDATE - I replaced the solar pool heater with an electric heat pump precisely because the solar pool heater wasn't effective enough during the cooler months. Even though it was working properly, solar pool heaters can't raise the water temperature enough in the winter months so now that problem should be eliminated.

Great location but not perfect

  • 4 of 5

The house is in a near-perfect spot with the best views of the surf. You can enjoy it from the patio deck on the main floor or the wall-to-ceiling windows on the second floor. The house was well-equipped for our 5-day stay. We ate in most nights with largely takeout style from grocery stores and poke vendors. The house did not have much in the way of condiments so cooking would have been harder without basic supplies like vinegar and olive oil for starters. Also, we would have liked if the owner would provide more towels. There was only one beach towel per person and no extras for baths/hands. While I like having a washing machine for our family of four to do a load of laundry mid-trip, I did not want to be stressing over laundry so that we could have a clean beach towel for the next morning's excursion. The washing machines were pretty worn and the dryers took forever to dry towels so we were having to get up late at night to check and re-run the cycle. All in all, we had a great time but given the price point of the house, it would have been nice to not have these inconveniences.

Owner's Response: Thank you for these comments. Normally, there are supplies left by ourselves and previous tenants such as olive oil, cooking oils, and vinegars left in the refrigerator. Unfortunately, our cleaning probably was overly aggressive in cleaning out the refrigerator and emptied everything out. We shall instruct the cleaning crew to leave the less perishable items such as oils & vinegars for the next set of renters. With regard to the towel situation, our policy is to leave two sets of bath, hand, and face towels per person and one beach towel per person in the incoming party. I do wish that you had informed the local property managers, Ramon & Lianne, about your need for more beach towels as they would have been happy to supply you with more as required. We'd love for our tenants to have their experience be as positive as possible. The dryer is indeed a problem and we're looking into repairing or replacing the dryer immediately. Thank you for pointing this out, and we'll try to remedy this situation right away. Much mahalo for your nice reviews and good suggestions. NOTE : January 27th update - I have replaced both the washer & dryer with new machines. They are both Kenmore front loading machines from Sears with large capacity. It will make washing clothes & towels much easier for tenants and the property manager. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Unsurpassed View

  • 4 of 5

This was our first experience with renting a home. We were anxious and tried to contain our expectations. We haven't visited Hawaii in some time and wanted to avoid the overly touristy area and simply get some rest, exercise and enjoy the ocean. The weather forecast was dismal. It was stormy upon our arrival which to no one's fault had the pool filled with leaves and trees blowing. It took one minute of entering the upper level of this home to put all our worries aside. The open inviting simply stunning upper level with unbelievable views of the ocean put our worries to bed as we settled in to a beautiful stay. The home is equipped with everything one would need. We cooked a lot at home and had every cooking pot/pan/cookie sheet at our disposal. There was plenty of room. Although some of the lamps needed new bulbs and there were not any batteries in the remote (....;-)), the property manager was quick to help out and accommodate our questions and concerns, albeit it only a few. The community is a quiet one which was perfect for us. Close enough to every amenity but far enough away to enjoy the quiet peaceful vacation we were anticipating.

We felt welcome and truly invited in to this home to experience it's value. Thank you Chong Family.
