6 bedrooms, 3 full baths & 2 half, sleeps 13, 5 queen beds, 1 double, 1 twin
My husband, two children, and I have lived in Mechanicsburg, an historic village just across the Susquehanna River from Harrisburg, PA, for 28 years. For a number of those years, we lived in this home, where our children walked to the local schools, and Dave and I volunteered in numerous capacities in the community. Our children are now grown and live out of state, and Dave and I spend much of our time at our river cottage just about a 30 minute drive from the house. I enjoy gardening, and often I will be the person stopping by to water the flowers and potted palms and check on the pool during your stay. We will do our best to give you outstanding service because we truly consider you our 'guests' in every sense of the word. Dave is the executive director of a statewide organization, and I am a professor at our local community college. In a few years, we look forward to retiring, when we plan to spend spring, summer and fall in Pennsylvania and winters traveling or visiting grandchildren (when they arrive!)
Janice purchased this House in 2000
Why Janice chose Mechanicsburg
We chose this property to live and raise our children because it is a safe area with good schools and convenient access to shopping and cultural attractions. We have easy access to major Interstate highways and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. With our son and daughter entering their teen years at the time, we also wanted a home that would be a 'teen magnet' to draw our children and their friends to our home to hang out. With the pool, outdoor kitchen and bath, and other outdoor amenities, as well as the layout of the house which is great for entertaining, our house became the home base for the track team, sleep overs, and pre-prom dinners poolside. The home was a favorite of the church youth group, and we enjoyed hosting cookouts and family reunions there as well. For the same reasons, we know our guests will find this home a wonderful base for a vacation in central Pennsylvania. The only 'drawback' you'll find is that you won't want to leave the house!

Great Family Place for Harrisburg/Hershey
This is a great place to stay for visiting the Harrisburg/Hershey area for up to 4 families and 15 people. The in-ground pool, gazebo, and pool house are a great summer activity place for children of all ages. Nearby attractions include Hershey Park, Chocolate World, Dutch Wonderland (great for younger kids), Gettysburg, Paulus Farm, and Adventure zone playground. The owners (Janice and Dave Waltz) are always checking if you need anything at the house. Plenty of nearby restaurants.
Beautiful Vacation Home
My family of four plus our dog had an amazing vacation.
Janice and Dave take great pride in their home. They are easy to communicate with and are very accommodating. But more than that, they are genuinely nice people! They treated us like family. We were able to enjoy time in the beautiful pool every evening, which was very relaxing. We took trips to Gettysburg, Hersheypark, and Indian Echo Caverns. There is so much to do in the area. The house was very clean and comfortable. We hope to be back soon.
This is a great place for a group. We we're fortunate with great pool weather.
I’ve always thought it means something when you say home, rather than house.
This is a home, with wonderful unique features, especially loved the laundry shoot and the milk door!
Harry and I loved being able to lounge around the pool and our young German Shepherd loved running and patrolling around the backyard.
We hope well be welcomed back(Ziva shed A LOT, so sorry).
I can’t for the life of me think that anyone wouldn’t love staying in this home. Janice was so kind and lovely when welcoming us, it was almost like meeting an old friend.
Obviously, highly recommending this rental!
Beautiful family vacation home with pool!
We had an amazing stay at this beautifully decorated, well maintained large family house! Full of amenities, including a well kept pool with pool house bathroom and kitchen. The bedrooms and many bathrooms accommodated our entire extended family! The kitchen was fully stocked with all we needed to cook for 12-20 ppl. The Hosts, Janice and Dave were fabulous... came out to greet us and give a working tour, and a thoughtful welcome gift! Truly all the.comforts of home away from home!
Great place fir short stays!
Good place for 8 or 10.
Easy drive to city, airport and Hershey park!
The village of Mechanicsburg is 30 minutes from the Gettysburg battlefield and visitor center, less than 30 minutes from Hershey Park, 45 minutes from Lancaster County's Amish Country. These are all in different directions, so we are very centrally located. There is also a Civil War museum in Harrisburg, just across the river. Mechanicsburg got its name because that's where all the covered wagons stopped to be repaired and worked on after they crossed the Susquehanna River heading west. It has the distinction of being the point of northernmost penetration of the Confederate Army in the Civil War. Other area attractions include Indian Echo Caverns, Lake Tobias Wildlife Park (fabulous for children!), Dutch Wonderland, IMAX theater and Harsco Science Center, and outstanding outlet shopping in Lancaster, Gettysburg, and Hershey. Enjoy the Appalachian Trail and other great wilderness hiking/biking trails, fishing, kayaking and tubing on the Susquehanna River and Yellow Breeches Creek minutes away.
