About Neal Barrett

Hi, Thank you for visiting our post. I was blessed with this home and raising my family here. Each major holiday we had 'the family' bless us with overnight visits. Sometime with over 30 people. There fore we started to equip the home with gear to make these events more comfortable. ....Now the summer months are spent biking, camping and traveling while you enjoy the home. We love to play scrabble and exercise and have always catered to children.. I have worked (izn the marine industry )all my life (45 years)and I manage many rental units. We take care of myself physically and emotionally, we both are extremely active in sports especially (biking, swimming, running) Needless to say being out doors in any fashion is where we thrive... It does not matter if we have a blizzard or 110' heat! Living here is a pleasure.. . Because we are Christian we do a lot of volunteer work for a number of different groups including Family Life and Focus on the Family. Weekly dancing to live music (swing, country, irish country, piano) keeps us young and Glen Echo Park in DC is only 45 minutes away. Looking forward to meeting you!

Neal Barrett purchased this house in 1988

Why Neal Barrett chose Maryland

This locaction was chosen because it is minutes from downtown Annapolis, the bay bridge and EZ access to Baltimore and DC. The home is unique as you experience NO auto traffic and it offers wonderful secluded privacy, quiet and traditional waterfront charm. The deep water pier allows any size craft (sail or power) and has access to the wonderful Magothy river within minutes. This is a wonderful place to raise the family and continue entertaining the family as it grow over time. The home offers may spots to hide in peace and having 14 people for a weekend still allows privacy and comfort. We are always improving the home so hopefully you will be pleased and surprised.

What makes this house unique

This home affords wonderful privacy as there are no homes within 100 yards of the building on either side, quiet dead end road at the end of a residential community.

Swimming off the dock is just wonderful in the summer time, boating can not be any better with the luxury of the deep water of the Magothy River in front of the home. One may sail away from the pier , take a one of our small boats and paddle down the creek or participate in safe long distance swim work outs in complete safety.

Nature abounds with wonderful bird life, crabbing and bay fishing (off the pier) . Sunrises and Sunsets from the pier and beach are invite you to the vigor of the Chesapeake Bay.

This home is very kid and pet friendly with safety fences and gates where you expect them. Note Pet lovers please bring your own crate.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a wonderful exciting week. It was nice to come back to the house and just sit by the water and BBQ in the evenings. The Extra refrigerators were a big asset for our family.

Wow, what a wonderful get away and a must come again vacation. We were treated as honored guest with a smooth transition with the owner. Our evenings were spent out on the dock enjoying the captive views of the Chesapeake Bay. Our days were spent exploring the wonderful historic area. We just didn't have enough time to do it all. Mr. Barrett was remarkably helpful and knowledgeable of the sights. I highly recommend this home to rent.

Great house for large group, but ... mice!

  • 2 of 5

I rented the house for a long weekend in June with a group of girls. The house was great, but there were definitely some cons.

Pros - the house has plenty of communal space and bedrooms. The pool is a good size, and there are two tables on the deck for outside dining. The listing and pictures were pretty accurate describing the house and property. I really liked this house, but there were things that I can't overlook...

Cons - Upon arrival, we put all our non-perishable goods in the pantry. Saturday evening we opened the pantry and were horrified to see mice on the pantry shelves. After the mice scattered, we examined the shelves and found numerous mice droppings and the packaging and food had been eaten. We had to throw out a number of items and had to leave the house for dinner because the group was so disgusted to see the mice. I emailed and texted the owner, but received no response. Still waiting.

In addition, the fuses blew in two bathrooms. We were not surprised by that, as the owner had stated in the arrival package that that may happen. What concerned us is that we texted him (per his instructions), but he never responded. Since we never received a response to get access to the circuit breaker, we didn't have light in the bathrooms for the rest of our stay. Communication was very poor.

The wifi network and password was on the arrival package that the owner emailed to us prior to our visit. However, when one of the guests tried to connect on the first day, it wasn't right. She needed to finish some work, so we called the owner (who actually answered this time) and he was VERY rude on the phone. The wifi network and password was actually incorrect on the arrival package that he sent us. The correct info was hand written on a piece of paper at the house.

Not sure I would recommend this house due to the mice. The other issues I can get over, but mice are so unsanitary and the owner doesn't seem to care. Very disappointing.

USNA Commissioning Week Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Great location and perfect for families gatherings. It was like having our own resort with something for everyone. Kayak, canoe, volleyball, swimming in the pool, jumping off the dock into the river or just sitting on the porch and enjoying the breeze and view. There were plenty of board games for the rainy days. We were there for our son's Commissioning and it was an easy ride to Annapolis and all the activities.

Weekend Bachelor Party

  • 4 of 5

Yes the house is very clean, Neal made sure everything was in working order including new appliances in the Kitchen. This is a great location at the end of street and we enjoyed every minute of the stay. The security deposit was fully refunded in 1 week, but we made sure to leave the house in the condition we received it in.

Thanks again Neal

Amazing Experience!

  • 5 of 5

My stay at this property was a amazing experience. I stayed that weekend in Annapolis to watch the football game and relax. This was the perfect location. Less than 20 minutes from downtown, it was close enough to make the drive, but far away that you felt that you were away from the hustle and bustle of the town. The owner Mr Neal is a great host, responded in a timely manner, and was able to assist in every way possible. Thee property is elegant, and very spacious. There's enough space to comfortable have a group with you. The view of the water is glorious. I personally watched the sunrise one morning and it is a beautiful site from the balcony. It was a great experience overall. I would definitely rent from Mr. Neal again, and would recommend his place to anyone else interested!

Unique & Fun Casual Waterfront home, just add family!

  • 4 of 5

Overall great here, crabbing, swimming off the dock and in the pool, hosting a crabfeast, room for bocce ball, space for a sailboat and space for all ages to enjoy was my goal. There are lots of well appointed bedrooms and bathrooms. The room on the downstairs level was good for my older parents with stairs/ knee issues. The kitchen needs a full remodel of cabinets and all of the appliances (and would be great to open it to the dining room and view!), i found much flatware put away unorganized and even dirty and broken plus the old stovetop dials were challenging for entertaining. But Neal did get a new fridge the next day and had a new dishwasher awaiting install (old one worked well). I like that there was some condiments and pantry items available, as well as coolers, table and chairs.

The house had other deferred maintenance, one reason i booked the place was for the jungle gym and it also had some splintering rotten platform, plus one of our guests actually walked on to the upper house deck to admire the view and her leg fell right through one of the rotten boards! She got scraped but was overall ok, but was definitely scary for her. Neal had these taken care of the next day as well.

The canoe also needs seating repair but the rowboat was fun and lots of pool toys, beach toys, floaties are all here. After the first evening of the fridge not working and challenging kitchen, dangerous kid structure and the deck accident i lost sleep, wondered if we should leave as this is not ok when paying $1K per night, but Neal really was helpful and attentive. I would love to come back here with everything dialed in, 5 stars next time! Truly a special spot near Annapolis! We all worked together and got through it and the rest of our stay was smooth sailing, we made wonderful memories with family and friends.
