Our family had a fabulous time at this country home nestled in the backwoods of West Virginia. It was the perfect place to get away from the world and unwind with our entire family. We had ten of us, my husband and myself, along with our four adult children and their spouses. We also brought along two dogs and they ran all over the property wearing each other out. We were able to have camp fires every evening, enjoy a game of pool, play cards and games, and eat to our hearts content! This is a perfect place for a family get a way if you are seeking some rest and relaxation and time to unplug from the world!
We had a fairly positive experience. The house was beautiful and with lots of space. The house has obviously been vacant for some time as noted by cobwebs and dust. The grounds could have been kept up a little more. The shrubs were over growing through the porch and the grass was higher than expected by the pond. We were hoping to take our kids fishing but we weren't comfortable taking them in the high grass. I dedicated a star for those reasons, because over all it was a good experience.
We stayed at Walnut Grove from 12-31-15 to 1-3-16. There was enough room for everyone not to trip over each other. The kitchen was supplied well from sugar to cookie sheets and there was visibility to see what the children were doing as the adults prepared meals. The directions to the home by the owner were better than our GPS or mapquest.
Walnut Cove was actually our second choice, after the property we wanted to rent for our fall getaway was all ready booked, and would could not have been happier. We have used HomeAway and VRBO many times, and this is by far the best property we have ever rented! The kitchen was was well stocked with plenty of pots and pans, and all the utensils one would need, and the range and double oven made meals so much easier. The whole family loved exploring the property, and the view from the top of the hill rivals some of the best views in the state. On our first night there it was clear enough to see the windmills in Nicholas County. The only complaint we had is we didn't have longer to stay!
We so loved our stay. The home was everything we'd hoped for and they didn't forget a thing. We felt welcome and at home....the scenery is breath taking and private. We created such great memories and can't wait to stay again.
We had a wonderful stay! Lovely house and a beautiful setting! We especially loved the trails cut through the fields and woods. We also took advantage of the fire pit nightly!
