The Whale House on Dauphin Island was well stocked, prepared, and organized for our arrival. The house has nice charm and is in a great location for all the wonderful places on the island. The beds were wondeful and bedding very clean! The porch swing in the front is a nice touch and we enjoyed sitting in the chairs on the back with a view of two large, wondeful live oaks. We had everything we needed. Our host, Teecie, communicated promptly and was very gracious.
Great central location on island, climate control was very good, kitchen was large and functional
Had a very cozy and comfortable visit ,, for the price we couldn’t of done better
Perfect for Two
Had plenty of hot water, fully equipped kitchen, a firm bed and a porch swing. Only downside was the tub needs to be replaced.
Thank you for your review and recommendations. We plan to re-paint the interior and replace the tub as soon as we have access to the cottage for a few days. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Great place to stay. Very well stocked. And a plus it had a washer and dryer.
Very quiet neighborhood, and accessible to many walking trails.
Beds were comfortable and we enjoyed our stay very much.
Thanks so much Teecie!
Cool island, unfortunate house
I wish I could leave a positive review for this house. A few updates would make this house much better. The king bed was horribly uncomfortable with lumps and loud squeaks whenever you rolled over. The bathroom was old and worn: the tub was pealing, did not drain properly, the drain was not in place, water leaked through the light fixture when it rained. The bathroom needs a fan, especially since you walk through the second bedroom to use it. Air vents have water stains in ceiling. These fixes, new paint, a security lock on the doors (anybody could make a key and enter), would go a loooong way in making this a pleasant place to stay.
Our stay on Dauphin Island was great for the most part. We enjoyed the bird sanctuary and Estuariam. The restaurants were great and people were friendly everywhere went. The Whale House is located within easy walking dusty to several eateries. The house itself was a little less than our expectations just by the pictures that are provided. A little paint would help. Overall it was comfortable and had everything we needed.
Dauphin Island is a barrier island located three miles south of the mouth of Mobile Bay in the Gulf of Mexico. Entry to the island is made by crossing a three mile long, high rise bridge. An automobile ferry from the eastern shore provides another entry point from Gulf Shores, AL. The island is approximately 14 miles long and 1 ¾ miles wide at the widest point. It is estimated that 1300 permanent residents call Dauphin Island home. The number of residents soars during vacation and holiday times. The entire Island has been designated as a bird sanctuary. Many attractions are located on the east end of the island including a Civil War fort, the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and Estuarium, Audubon Bird Sanctuary and numerous boat launch sites. The Island's beautiful beaches of sugar white sand, public golf course and parks are added attractions located on the west end of the island. Together they make Dauphin Island a wonderful laid-back resort destination.
