Absolutely the Best
I can only comment about what it's like visiting this property in the winter. And I don't know if the owner is a wizard or not, but each time we visit everything is magical and perfect. Fully flocked trees on the drive up to the cabin set the mood. Temps around -10 and plenty of fire wood to keep us all cozy for the week. A Christmas tree greeted us into the clean house. The sauna is perfect after snowshoeing out to the main road. Our Berner loved sitting in the cold 4-seasons porch with the door closed and the heat off. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook Christmas cookies, a giant Korabuto Ham and all the other food we bought from Grand Rapids. There's a liquor store and a convenience store in Marcell - just 6 miles up the well maintained road... good for when you misjudge just how many snacks and drinks will be consumed. Ping Pong table was nice and there were plenty of blankets in one of the closets. The main point is just how magical and relaxing this place is. What a treat.

Gorgeous Place!
My wife and I got married in Marcell on Turtle Lake Sept 17. We stayed in this home with our entire wedding party. We couldn’t have asked for a better place, location, and host. Peggy was very helpful and a pleasure to rent from. We definitely will be back! Thanks for everything!

We created these places before private vacation rentals came about. We knew families and friends wanted a place to get together on a lake, surrounded by nature, with no distractions, that felt like your own private lake home. We are passionate about log buildings and owned and operated Top-Notch Log homes for 40 years, building hand crafted log homes and structures with local timber for over 40 years on lakes all over the northern lake area.
In 1998 our kids were young and we wanted to start a family endeavor so we purchased a small classic resort with 1100 feet of shoreline on the clearest lake in Minnesota. VRBO and other sites like this were not around and we know people wanted nice large cabins on the lake where they could gather with a group in places as nice, or nicer, then their own homes.
So we proceeded to build three beautiful log lodges which were each on it’s own 200 feet of private lakeshore, so we could sell them as private homes if our plan didn’t work.
But our plan worked and we have so many return guests it’s been fun to keep going. And now after 20 years of hosting groups and watching families grow and expand into more then one cabin, we are also seeing our guests wanting small places. So in the summer of 2017 we retired Top-Notch Log homes and put up two small log places on Caribou Lake, and now we want to invite your to come experience the beautify of the place and the feel of a real log home,

Why they chose this property

These unique hand scribed log cabins on an amazing lake in a beautiful wilderness area, and just a few hours north of the twin cities. Our well spaced cabins are more private then most private homes. We are licensed, so you can be sure of a safe building, safe water and septic, and built just for guests.
Located in the Suomi Hills on Caribou lake, which is clearest lake in Minnesota and one of over 650 lakes in a 7 mile radius. This spacious and secluded hand crafted full log lodge will have you as intrigued indoors as you will be outdoors. In the winter enjoy some of the best cross country skiing in the Soumi hills, or snow shoe on our many trails. Or snow mobile on the trail that leads from the cabin connecting you to trails throughout the northland. Lake trout and huge northern pike can be caught right out the door, or just relax in front of the field stone fireplace after a Finnish sauna. The cabin's-beautiful Forest surroundings, and this unique spacious cabin will have you inspired by the craftsmanship that went into the building. In the spring, summer and fall you'll love swimming in this amazing lake, boating, and fishing for Lake Trout, Large and Small Mouth Bass, or pan fish right from your private dock. This year round lodge has it all.
In addition, we actually have three log lodges and two log cabins along 1100 feet of lakeshore, each very private on their own 200' of lake shore, so if your group expand we can accommodate you. This also makes it an ideal place for an intimate wedding of up to 50-100 people, with a wedding pavilion and and our new small honey moon cabin. Motor boats are allowed on the lake, but no Jet skis. The lodges have Wifi but no TVs.
Summers are great. Very private with a large deck overlooking the lake, fire pit with wood provided, and nice yard for playing games. your looking for a place to start a family tradition you just found it. Hope you'll check us out.

What makes this property unique

Located in the Chippewa National Forest this place truly feels like a get away. The drive on scenic byway 38 takes you back in time as it weave through lakes and forest to our long driveway hemmed in with big pine. We invite you to go directly to your cabin which is warm, inviting, and overlooks Caribou lake. And you will fall in love with this amazing lake. You can see the bottom at 40 feet.
The cabin is of the finest craftsmanship they have ever seen, and or guests tell us they can spend hours admiring it. With 4 spacious bedrooms, a bunk room, 3 bathrooms there's room for your large group. And as your group expands over the years you can spread into our additional lodges down the lakeshore.
An additional highlight is located One mile before your turnoff to the cabin where you cross the continental divide. Pull in for a short walk through the self guided interpretive trail that teaches you about the water shed, and early history of the area, then continue on to this beautiful cabin that awaits you. As you turn into our half mile driveway smell the tall pines, prepare to relax. We leave the door open so you can go right to your cabin hassle free and just call us from the cabin phone.
Come experience Minnesota's beat kept secret.
