About Peggy Landin

We know the importance of having a place where you can get away from the stress and demands of everyday life and surround yourself with nature and people you love. Tim had been building hand crafted log homes for private individuals on lakes all over the northern lake area, but he wanted to use his talents to creat a few log homes with the best of the best logs he collected over his many years as proprietor of Top-Notch Log Homes. His goal was to build a few log homes on the nicest lake he could find, and make them available to groups of friends and family's. So his wife and partner, Peg, set out to do some creative financing to make Tim's dream a reality. We purchased a 40 acres Forest with 1100 feet of shoreline on the clearest lake in Minnesota and built 3 each fantastic log lodges, each is situated on over 200 feet of private lakeshore, with your own yard, fire pit, sauna, dock, and a huge deck overlooking the lake.

Finally, VRBO suggest we tell you personal things about ourself, such as where we grew up or schools we went to to build trust. Let's just say we're Minnesota born and bred and we won't bore you with the rest. If you want to know just ask:)

The lodge is on Caribou lake, which is clearest lake in Minnesota and one of the 1000 lakes in Itasca county. In the winter enjoy some of the best cross country skiing in the Soumi hills, or snow shoe on our many trails. Or snow mobile on the trail that leads from the cabin connecting you to trails throughout the northland. Lake trout and huge northern pike can be caught right out the door, or just relax in front of the field stone fireplace after a Finnish sauna. The cabin's-beautiful Forest surroundings, and this unique spacious cabin will have you inspired by the craftsmanship that went into the building. In the spring, summer and fall you'll love swimming in this amazing lake, boating, and fishing for Lake Trout, Large and Small Mouth Bass, or pan fish right from your private dock. This year round lodge has it all.

In addition, we actually have three log lodges along 1100 feet of lakeshore, each very private on their own 200' of lake shore, so if your group expand we can accommodate you. This also makes it an ideal place for an intimate wedding of up to 50-100 people, with a wedding pavilion and and our new small honey moon cabin. Motor boats are allowed on the lake, but no Jet skis. The lodges have Wifi but no TVs. It's a great place for Christmas gathering as we decorate with a live tree.

Summers are great. Very private with a large deck overlooking the lake, fire pit with wood provided, and nice yard for playing games.

We make it feel like it feel like your own private cabin. About 80% of our customers are returning guests. When I ask them to write a review they tell me they want to keep the place a secret.

If your looking for a place to start a family tradition you just found it. Hope you'll check us out.

Great cabin and fantastic host!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin over MEA weekend for a group that included dad's and kids for grouse hunting. Cabin was perfect for our group as we utilized the kitchen for one big dinner meal and the table for a nightly game of cards. Location was perfect and the view of Caribou lake could not be better. Highly recommended.

Secluded Coziness!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is extremely cozy!

This handcrafted log cabin is very warm and beautiful. It provided more than enough room for myself and 9 guests. We were fortunate enough to spend our time at the cabin in February during the winter. The beautiful drive alone through the secluded wooded trails leading to the cabin was an experience in itself having seen about 10 deers!

During the day we enjoyed ice fishing on Caribou Lake which was accessible by foot. Fishing licenses were easily obtainable at a nearby convience & tackle store located just minutes away with friendly and welcoming staff.

During the evening we enjoyed the wood fireplace, listened to music, and cooked food on the charcoal grill. The kitchen is fully stocked which made it very convienant when serving 10 people. There is plentiful beds and furnishings to make 10 people comfortable for a whole weekend.

Peggy, the host, is very friendly and helpful. She made our stay worry-free and enjoyable. We were very pleased and grateful of our experience at this cabin. I am giving serious consideration on returning and I highly recommend this place.

The perfect get away for quiet and beauty

  • 5 of 5

Our family randomly stumbled upon Buckhorn and the beauty of Caribou Lake last summer. The lake is unbelievably clean with great fishing and an excellent rope swing on the other side of the lake. The cabins at Buckhorn make the stay the perfect get away. Large space with great decks and a sauna. Peg and Tim are the best hosts ever. We ended up visiting several more times after our first discovery and every time of the year this place is great. If you like cross country skiing the winter is great, if you like grouse hunting and leaf peeping the fall is great and even in the dead space of winter the calm, quiet and beauty of this place will relax the most stressed out city person. I can't recommend this place enough.

Great Weekend Getaway! :)

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for a fantastic weekend staying at cabin #6. Being a group of Norwegians living in Minnesota it is not easy to find rental cabins equivalent to our cabins and cabin traditions back home in Norway, but staying at Buckhorn on Caribou Lake was definitely just like being back home, a feeling seldom sparked when being this far away from our home country. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway, this is surely the place to go. With quiet surroundings and wonderful nature, it will definitely get you away from whatever stress a normal working week might bring. Our group stayed over a weekend in mid-November, and even though there was no snow to cool us of when using the sauna, we did however take a dip in the lake, and yes it was rather cold, yet wonderful!

Thank you so much for a great weekend getaway at Buckhorn on Caribou Lake :)

COUPLES WEEKEND....

  • 5 of 5

After viewing this listing with all the amazing photos, needless to say, we were beyond excited about our reservations for Cabin #1. But when we arrived, the Cabin EXCEEDED our expectations! I can’t even think of one thing that was wrong, missing or could be improved upon. We stayed from a Thursday – Sunday. Even on the last day, I found myself still in awe with all of the beautiful details of this Cabin. While we were there, we all kept talking different groups we would love to come back with. The drive for us was approx. 3 1/2 hours, but WELL WORTH THE DRIVE! Peggy was very nice, friendly and easy to work with. Thanks Peggy! I wish I could click on more stars for a higher rating than Excellent!
