About Albert Tropea Jr.
Captain Albert Tropea, Jr Once worked with Proctor and Gamble families and the Helene Curtis Company as personal sailing captain. While working in Key Largo with a maintenance company taking care of all hospitality related needs from the homes, to designing landscapes, maintaining yachts, Captain Albert realized that the missing component in vacations in the Florida Keys was the sailing style of adventure vacations. Captain Albert decided to bring the experiences he had with the very wealthy to the hard working families who longed for the sailing experience with their spouses, friends or families. Captain Albert has sailed all over the world from being a Everglades then Bahamas Guide, to sailing the Greek Islands and a number of foreign countries. Let Captain Albert or his hand picked captains and trained mates show you the wonders of what makes the area around the Florida Keys so unique. Our captains know many places that the big 40 plus person boats cannot get to and may not know about. Sail with a crew attending your needs, feel free to be involved with sailing or lifting the sails. It is the goal of the Company to have you experience direct contact with the wind, the sails and the sea with confidence if you one day want to buy your own boat. Feel like you own the boat by telling our crew what you wish to have for an experience whether it is more swim/snorkeling, fishing, sailing. You are the one in charge as if you own the sailboat.
Albert Tropea Jr. purchased this Boat in 1995
Why Albert Tropea Jr. chose Historic Seaport
Key West boasts over three million visitors a year and for good reason. All year round the temperatures are milder than anywhere else even in the summer. Winter is non existent; come down and thaw out with us for your winter retreat. There are only a few days in January where the chill in the air will be down to a low of 45 for night time temperatures, high of 65 only a few days in January the rest of the year is spring like temperatures. Even the summers the highs are rarely above 92 degrees and nights and ocean breezes keep it mild at nights. 'Gonna go where the sun keeps shining, through the pouring rain' was a line from the song written about Key West! Bring your summer dream weddings and honeymoon plans to us and we help you design a special memory. Key Wes is second only to Las Vegas for easy relaxed weddings in a variety of settings especially on board your own sailing vessel, married next to a famous Key West Sunset. Since it takes from 17 to 25 years to get one of the coveted Key West Bight docks, we just recently added a third boat after waiting almost 20 years. It is well worth the wait, with a short three block stroll to Mallory Square nightly art festival and the famous bars and restaurants along the Duval Street district. There are museums and other attractions close by and the Ft. Meyers Ferry Boat is just a few yards from our E Dock behind the Wyland Murial at 201 William. The Historic Seaport has shopping along the board walk with many restaurants to choose from. Still funky and fun, Schooner Wharf Bar, Turtle Kraals and many old local's favorites still at historic seaport after many years with live music all the time. Restaurant near the Ferry boat has live music, outdoor dining and you are welcome to use the pool when you purchase your lunch or drinks with them like many pools in town. So much to do and see, park your car and bike or walk almost everywhere. Or take a taxi from the airport. Enjoy a simpler life Key West living.

Key West living on the docks
Loved our stay right in the middle of everything by warf. Location is incredible. Still a quiet at night for sleep. Perfect for those that like sleeping on boats. Our day sail was awesome. Great communication. Would definitely return.
We loved staying on Wildthing. The location is excellent and you can’t beat watching the sunset while sipping a cocktail on deck!
Hi Tom! so glad to have you both as our guests it was a pleasure meeting and talking with you about so many interesting things that you do! Please stay in touch as we wanted to know more and hope you return for a winter retreat. Thank you for the positive review. Captain Albert with Ronda
Our family of four enjoyed our stay and cruises on the Wild Thing. Captain and crew were very friendly and helpful and great about teaching our boys about sailing. Location is ideal close to everything, even restaurants and coffee shops at the end of the dock. Even being close to all the activity, it is a quiet spot. Cuban Coffee Queen catered sunrises on the deck of the boat were some of the best memories of all. We hope to return. Thank you Captain Albert.
Awesome Wild Thing
Great boat. Loved our two trips with Captain Ben. The first mates...Vinny, Felicia and Nick were awesome! 5 stars all the way!! Highly recommend except for when we plan to return!
It is the people that make this charter business such great fun
I took my 3 grandkids and we had a blast. The boat is clean and well kept. It is an older boat so if you prefer things to be shiny and new, this might not be for you. Captain Albert and Rhonda were great to work with and easily accessible. Captain Ben and First Mate Vinnie took us on a snorkel cruise one day and a sunset cruise the next. They were very engaging and fun and taught the kids a lot about sailing. The location of the marina is ideal. Restaurants and shops are nearby and Duvall St is within walking distance. This was an experience we won’t forget.
Good, but could be GREAT
First let me say how pleasant Albert and Rhonda are as hosts... just a great couple. As for the boat, Wild Thing is a wonderful, albeit small, vessel. There were a few things broken onboard during our stay, the refrigerator did not cool (so make sure you bring a good cooler for boat drinks) and there was a major issue with the floor (previous guests broke a hole in the floor) of the bow cabin. There is definitely a “sailboat” smell inside, so be aware.
If you’re not used to small living quarters, or haven’t traveled in a boat or campervan, this may be too small for more than three people. This is not a resort suite or hotel room, but a working sailboat with limited room to move around or lounge in deck.
The location cannot be beat in Key West. Exciting dock life with a very busy harbor. Wonderful people abound, and there is always something happening. Bike rentals are less than 300-yards away, and the Cuban Coffee Queen stand is next door for that early morning caffeine fix.
One of the best amenities of the reservation is the sailing trip... Captain Ben and mate Vinny were amazing. Such a joy to be on the water with. And this boat handles very well in big wind and seas.
Overall we had a fantastic time aboard this ship, and would recommend staying for anyone who understands adventure travel ( again, this is NOT for the resort folks who need space and service). Go into the trip with the right mindset, and there are memories to be made!
