Located in one of the most desirable settings of Sea Ranch, in an exceptional private, peaceful, quiet location on a knoll west of California's famous coastal Hwy 1, the 'Bella Vista' home has breathtaking unobstructed ocean views up and down the coast (above the rooftops of a few homes in a meadow well below).

The Sea Ranch is a world-renowned primary and secondary home community along a ten-mile stretch of California's most breathtaking, beautiful coastline, about 100 miles north of San Francisco. The Sea Ranch comprises approximately 12 square miles of land and has about 1800 homes.

The Sea Ranch is particularly famous for its strict architectural requirements, following the motto 'building light on the land.' Bella Vista shares the ocean view lot line with Sea Ranch commons land, which provides for unobstructed expansive ocean views and privacy. The Sea Ranch territory includes tens of miles of private roads, many hiking trails, three recreation centers that are open to renters, and an 18-hole golf course.

The Bella Vista home was built in 1989 and has approximately 1800 square feet of rented living area, including a mezzanine with a high-quality (German-made Grotrian Steinweg) upright piano.

Bella Vista features terracotta tiles and Oriental rugs in the living areas and wall-to-wall carpets in the bedrooms. Vaulted ceilings in all rooms, large windows, comfortable furniture, a conventional wood fireplace, and decor will contribute to making your stay pleasant and memorable. The kitchen is well equipped with modern (and quiet!) appliances. Enjoy the view deck and private deck off the master bedroom with built-in hot tub (with ocean view), and the overall uniquely private setting. The Sea Ranch has three large recreation centers with pool, saunas, and tennis courts -- all free of charge to our renters. The 18-hole Sea Ranch Golf Links are located in breathtaking ocean view environment -- fees apply.

The Sea Ranch has tens of miles of ocean bluff trails, meadow trails, and hill-side hiking trails. The internal road system is ideal for the recreational, occasional biker; the nearby public highways offer challenges for road bikers, and the Sea Ranch hill-side trails are challenging for mountain bikers -- just bring your bikes.

Bella Vista has a 3kW solar photovoltaic energy system that is entirely integrated to the regular electric grid system and will remain unnoticed by the renter. Space heating is by optimal passive heating and a conventional gas central heating system.

About Klaus Heinemann

We came to Sea Ranch every year for family vacations in rental homes and built our first home ('Casa Pacis'' -- see separate VRBO listing) at near-by 'Walk-on Beach' in 1984. In 1993 we found the home which became 'Bella Vista' for sale, on a knoll in a superb view location that we had admired for years on our walks on Sea Ranch trails. We remodeled it, adding a third bath and a piano mezzanine off the great room.

Once Agian, Spectacular!!

Returning to Bella Vista after 10-years was better than we had imagined....and we imagined good:) Such a beautiful home and scenic location. We will be back. Great times and very special memories for us surround Bella Vista.

This is a wonderful home and location to get away from it all!!

My sister and I needed a place to recuperate and unwind. Klaus' home was just the ticket! Every morning we had breakfast and coffee on the deck. We loved seeing the ocean from inside and outside the house and loved the wild deer we saw in the neighborhood! Just a beautiful and relaxing experience. We would return and recommend their home to all our friends and family!

AAAHHH!

I had this long review all written up about this place detailing things like the spectacular views (the back of the house is basically all windows) of the ocean, the deer and many species of birds in the yard in the mornings, the coziness of the home itself with the wood burning stove and the warm cabin feel, the binder with all the info you could imagine on the home and the surrounding area, the peaceful, quiet and friendly feeling of the neighborhood (everybody waves), the close proximity to the ocean and on and on and on...trust me, It was a long review. But as I read it over to myself, it made me wish I was still there. That's when I realized when others read it, they may decide to go ahead and try it out for themselves. That may make it a bit more difficult for me to get this place when I want it again in the future. No bueno! So I decided not to write any of that stuff. I also chose not to write about how well we were treated by the owner with his quick/excellent communication and genuine concern in making sure everything was perfect for our stay. Sssoooo...yea. Sorry I couldn't help you.

Hard to Beat 180-Degree Views

We've rented homes in The Sea Ranch for close to 30 years and have seen a little of everything - from ultra modern to rustic, from the meadow to the hillside to ocean front. We rented Bella Vista for a long weekend and begged the owners to let us have an additional night. At the end of the day, Sea Ranch is about the sights and sounds and this home didn't disappoint. Knowing the Ranch's history, we knew the fact that Bella Vista is situated on one of the 'original' hills meant that the views would likely be spectacular -- and they were. Nearly 180-degree ocean views, and - even better - the sound of waves crashing the rocks just to the West of us. It was awesome. It's like a Sea Ranch hillside home with great views but the added benefit of hearing the waves; it's got the views of a meadow home without highway noise. The silence was amazing. We enjoyed a full moon, walked to gorgeous sunsets and woke to blue and white water views every morning. One more thing: the master bed was really comfortable - something you can't always count on. Thanks for that. Would recommend for adults of all ages.

Perfect Getaway for Two to Four Adults

This was our second visit to The Sea Ranch, having previously stayed at the owner's smaller property, Casa Pacis, in late winter two years earlier. This time we brought our newly married friends, and the space was perfect for the four of us.

Not only is the house architecturally interesting, but the setting and the views will keep you captivated even if you have no other plans - whether it is looking at the hawks drifting over the meadows, seeing whale spouts in the distance, or gazing at stars from the deck on a clear night. The house sits on a bluff above the meadow, allowing you to see a large area from above, and far out to sea. And the design of the house with two split bedrooms with en-suites, and a wall of windows facing the ocean is perfect. There is an interesting upstairs lounge as well.

We did drive north about 30 minutes to the Point Arena light house, which has a small but good museum section with many historical drawings, diagrams, and photos of the lighthouse, area industry and shipping history, etc. The view from the top of the lighthouse is fantastic.

Supermarkets just up the road in Gualala are very good, and will have pretty much anything you would need. Good meat counters at both. Upper Crust Pizza is among the best we've had anywhere.

It takes some driving to get to Sea Ranch. You can't just cut over from the 101 and be there. You have to approach along the coast from the Bay Area, much of it on windy PCH, or from the less populated north. I think just adds to the sense of seclusion and serenity. If you like that vibe, and are looking for the perfect getaway on the North Coast, this is it!

Excellent retreat, quiet, and romantic

My fiance and I visited Bella Vista for a weekend getaway to get much needed rest and relaxation. That is exactly what we got. It was peaceful, quiet, close to the trails, and great views of the coast.

The address is 41053 Tallgrass. Typically, when people are unfamiliar with the The Sea Ranch and lean heavily on google maps when they make their selection, they are surprised to find out how dramatically the absence of elevation information in google maps distorts perception - Bella Vista is sheltered from any road noises, open solely to the sounds of the ocean, and looks majestically above the meadow in front and some unobtrusive rooftops onto the vastness of the ocean up and down the coast. The home is located about 500 feet west of Coastal Highway 1, close to, but invisible from, the Sea Ranch internal Leeward Road.
