'We had a wonderful time in your cottage. Everything was perfect! Our memories of this quaint home will be with us forever because our daughter was married Saturday, and our stay here will be mingled with her sweet day. Thank you,'

'We enjoyed your cottage so much! It was our home and working base for the week of our daughter's wedding. This cottage gave us all a place to be at home-away-from-home. Thank you so much for such a wonderful memory.'

Frank and Kathy - June 2008

We really liked this place. We actually live in Santa Barbara but our house got flooded so we were staying here and we loved it! -May 2007

We had a wonderful time in your cottage while visiting our daughter and sister who lives in Goleta. It was a very special time since we celebrated our father’s 80th birthday. The cottage is a lovely place to stay. It was very warm and cozy. We’ll definitely keep it in mind for the next time. (The Netherlands – Europe) March 2006

About Cherise

My wife & I have lived in Santa Barbara for 29 yrs and invite you to come visit our Charming Cottages. There is no place like Santa Barbara in the world and we think you will agree with us after you have stayed with us in the heart of the Santa Barbara. Known as the American Riviera.

Cherise purchased this house in 2004

Why Cherise chose Hope

Our three Cottages are very charming inside and out. The landscape area surrounding the three Cottages matches the Cottages them selves. The San Roque area neighborhood is a very desirable area for locals to purchase Real Estate because of its family oriented life style and sought after school district. Also its proximity to beaches , shopping and Wine Country. We invested here because of all of these reasons.

Guestbook comments from the owner

It was fantastic! The VRBO description was spot on. We had a group of 10 friends and the privacy of the three cottages plus the beautiful compound made it a perfect place for us to stay. The cottages were pretty fully stocked and very clean. The beds were even comfortable! If we find ourselves with a group of people in SB again, we'll be staying here!

Cozy and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I live in Santa Barbara, but we needed a place to stay with our small dog during an especially loud phase of a neighbor's remodeling project.

The Hummingbird Cottage was a perfect escape! It's tucked away in a neighborhood on a little-used private street. Tall, dense foliage covers the surrounding fence, giving you a nice feeling of privacy even though there are houses nearby. The neighborhood is so quiet that you generally wouldn't know anyone else was around.

The California King bed is very comfortable. All of the appliances are up-to-date and in good working condition. There are plenty of electrical outlets (for those of us who depend upon our various electronic devices), and they are all grounded and modern. The cottage's layout is comfortable and efficient.

The Five Points shopping center and La Cumbre Mall are nearby, providing very convenient access to groceries, restaurants, gas stations, etc.

If you have a small dog, I would provide one cautionary note: there's a 4 or 5 foot long gap, maybe 6 inches or so high, beneath the north side of the fence in the back yard behind the fig tree. It's large enough for a small dog to slip through. I blocked it off with two "boogie boards" that the owner had provided for ocean recreation and all was well, but we watch our dog closely and she isn't especially focused upon escaping and roaming. If she was, she probably could have pulled those aside and escaped without much trouble.

Overall, we loved the Hummingbird Cottage, and would definitely stay here again. In fact, we might even make a habit of using it for short in-town vacations!

Comfortable and well-equipped

  • 4 of 5

Nice little place with great private outdoor space in the back and a nice front porch. Good to have the off-street parking and the laundry facility. Kitchen has everything you could need. Beds are nice and firm, and the unit was clean and well-stocked with towels. The neighborhood was pretty quiet, too. This location was perfect for us (near a relative that we were visiting) and pretty convenient -- though the car was absolutely necessary, as there were not any obvious restaurants or shopping within easy walking distance.

Wonderful stay in Hummingbird Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

I lived in SB and Goleta for fifteen years, including close to ten off of La Cumbre Rd., and was unaware of this charming mini-neighborhood. Quiet, close to everything. It was perfect for our family of five, including three young boys. We had a wonderful week here. Checking in and out was a breeze. Highly recommended!

Comfortable, easy access, great location for dog walking

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I needed a winter 'home away from home' for three months and found Hummingbird cottage fit the bill nicely. It is comfortable for two, would be OK for four but the bathroom is small so fewer people works a lot better for a longer stay. The neighborhood is very quiet and is easy access to the playing fields of La Colina Junior High School which, after school hours, becomes a great place to run and play with a dog who needs exercise. Cherise, the manager, was very responsive to any needs we had. Yes, we would recommend this cottage to others.
