About Gabriele Brachmann and Andreas Knüpffer

We, Andreas Knüpffer and Gabriele Brachmann, come from Northern Germany (Hamburg) and live in Munich since we left school. We have two children.

Gabriele Brachmann and Andreas Knüpffer purchased this villa in 2011

Why Gabriele Brachmann and Andreas Knüpffer chose Obwalden

Since 2011 we own the villa 'Bijou sur Lac' near Lucerne. Andreas knows the area since his childhood because the house has been built by his grandfather.

What makes this villa unique

We love the house because of its' fantastic panorama view, its' 'splendid isolation' and because we've spent already many happy hours with our friends. There is space enough for several families.

Impressive house, beautiful scenery

  • 5 of 5

We met by Nikolina and thoroughly explained about the house. She served welcome drinks to all of us, so it was a nice gesture.

The house was all that was described. It was very complete with everything that you need. Our only regret was we don't have time to experience everything thoroughly like kids room and billiard room at the basement because we have to do our trips. It's Switzerland though, an outdoor heaven so most of the times we went in the morning and go back in the evening.

One time we do our morning walk to the Sarnen city centre and found out that to do your groceries Migros and Coop is not that far away. There is also a bus pass through the house to city centre. So in my opinion even if we didn't have a car with us, we can hop on a bus to city centre or train station to go on our day trips. Though having a car with us made it more flexible.

My conclusion when we ever go to Switzerland again this is my first choice for homebase around Zurich/ Lucerne area.

Thank you Gabrielle for letting us stay at your wonderful house. Thank you Nikolina for making us feel welcome.

I hope that we have been a good guests to you and please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience.

Beautiful property in ideal location

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this amazing property. Everything that we could have possibly desired for our stay was already accounted for by the owners. The caretaker of the property arranged a meeting with me on our arrival and spent a significant amount of time giving us a tour and introduction on how we could best maintain the property during our stay. Also, the careful preparation of the property was indicated by the many notes and signs that were posted.

While the owners did charge an extra fee for usage of additional bedding and towels, this is quite understandable. Having the option to have clean linens and additional towels was nice, even if it was for an extra fee.

This property is ideal for guests that have children and need additional space. I would love to visit Sarnen/Wilen again and would stay here without hesitation.

Wonderfull villa

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in the spacious house. Perfect location for day trips to Luzern and Pilatus - and the view from the villa was breathtaking. It was very hot during our stay so we also took trips to the seebads nearby and enjoy the terracce.

Magnificent retreat

  • 5 of 5

We booked this house for a reunion of our two families from the United States with our local relatives in Switzerland. Everything about the house was first class and the local managers were immediately responsive, providing beach towels, circulating fans during the heat wave and even a scale so we could weigh our luggage before our return. The kitchen and outdoor dining area were so inviting that we hosted three meals for our local relatives. The location was superb for swimming in the Lake Sarnen, hiking in Engelberg and Melchsee Frutt and visiting Lucerne and Interlaken. Fireworks on July 4th were outstanding! This home allowed us to experience a special family reunion of our lifetimes. Thank you to the owners for sharing their home.

Fantastically well-appointed house for families

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in August with friends (four families with seven kids aged 7 to mid-teens). We often rent holiday properties together with other families, and this is by far the most comfortable and well-equipped house we have ever stayed in. There is plenty of seating, crockery, etc. for everyone to cook and eat together in style, both in the dining room and on the terrace, and also enough quiet corners you can withdraw to, alone or in smaller groups. It's a paradise for children, too, with everything from garden games to table football, Wii and even an indoor playground. We only ever saw the children when they were hungry, and were able to relax for hours, enjoying the wonderful view of the lake and surrounding mountains - either through the panorama window in the living room or on the shaded terrace.

The house is situated in a very quiet area, not overlooked by neighbours, and is completely private. The next small town, Sarnen, is a couple of minutes’ drive away with excellent supermarkets, restaurants, and a Saturday market from May to October selling local produce. The next city is Luzern, on Lake Luzern, where you can enjoy shopping, culture and sightseeing, excellent restaurants and great galleries and museums. The region has plenty to offer, whether you are interested in sport and the outdoors, food or culture. (The hardest part is tearing yourself away from the comforts and possibilities of the house!) The owners have put plenty of information on things to do in the area on their website http://bijou-sur-lac.com/.

It’s the perfect place for doing everything or nothing, and we will certainly be coming again. During our summer stay, we didn’t manage to take full advantage of the billiard room, so this is just one reason to come for an autumn or winter break. The property would also be ideal for larger family get-togethers and special celebrations (big birthdays, wedding anniversaries, etc.) particularly if these include elderly relatives with mobility problems, as there are so many ground-floor bedrooms and bathrooms. The friendly owners have an arrangement with local caterers, and there are hotels nearby for further guests.
