Wolfeboro has that Norman Rockwell ambiance. a quintessential small town with the activities, amenities, and ambiance that you would hope for. It has a great schedule of free events, (concerts, craft shows, carnivals, sidewalk days, fishing derbies, fairs, book signings, antique boat shows and races, canoeing, kayaking and sailing races, etc.). There is also a brand new hospital, diverse shopping, and conveniences to service your needs.

First opened in 1938, a time when automobile vacations were still new, exciting and just a little bit dangerous. Weary city dwellers could escape hot urban summers and call a little piece of the country the Oldest Summer Resort in America. Couples and families played horseshoes and tossed balls under tall trees, enjoyed lake pleasures, entertainments and shopping in the village, and returned to their cottages for socializing and well-earned sleep at night. Since buying the property in 2008, we have worked hard to retain each cabin’s nostalgic ambiance while ensuring your comfort. Cottages are freshly decorated, and electricity, plumbing, and all systems have been updated while preserving period character.

About David De Jager, Owner

We are blessed with 4 amazing young inquisitive children and the privilege of living in this GORGEOUS area with so many natural and healthy activities and surroundings. 40 years of local experience give us the insight for nuances not normally offered to visiting guests.

David De Jager, Owner purchased this cottage in 2008

Why David De Jager, Owner chose Lake Winnipesaukee Area

This is one of the last surviving Cottage Clusters in the area. We have just added the Main House to the availability which can host up to 12 people. This used to be the predominant method of travel for thousands of weary city dwellers escaping the heat, noise and smoke of the summer to arrive by train, carriage and boat to these shores. Most other colonies have been dismantled or sold for condominiums, but we endeavor to preserve this pure and healthy traditional form of family vacations dating back to the 1920's when travel was just a little bit edgy and vacation was in it's advent. Come experience a nostalgic piece of history and see if you don't agree with so many others who feel they have re-discovered something forgotten deep inside them.

What makes this cottage unique

Having lived here over 40 years, I can help you plan Hiking, Biking, Water Skiing, Scuba, Sailing, Windsurfing, Skin Diving, Hiking, Caving, Free Concerts in the Park, Summerstock Theater, Town Hall Clock Tower Chimes, Church Bells, Craft and Country Fairs, Free Parks and Fields, Playgrounds, Tennis Courts, Golfing, Sipping a beer on the waterfront, Old Fashion Ice Cream Vendors, Walks along antique Waterways, Waterfalls by the old millway, Idle chat with the locals, Breakfast in the Wolfeboro Diner, Antique Boat Shows, Village Shops… SO much more depending on what you can pack in… Please have a look at our reviews which have shown these sentiments.

Quaint, full of charm and very well maintained

  • 5 of 5

The cottage are adorable and cozy! The kitchen is well-stocked and the beds were quite comfortable. This property is definitely well cared for and maintained. From coffee and sugar to make-up wipes and soap the cottage had amenities we did not expect. We utilized the kayaks and bicycles during our stay. The owner, Dave and staff are welcoming and helpful. The beaches are sandy & wonderful, with a bonus of life guards on duty. Castle in the Clouds should not be missed. Rent a motor boat to really see the lake and beautiful million dollar homes! Downtown Wolfeboro has quaint shops and restaurants. Great place to relax and slow down! Lake Winnepesaukee is a wonderful vacation spot.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for coming to stay with us... This is an AWESOME spot for Large Family and/or Friend Gatherings up to 54 people…, people say they love the fact that they can be together but not be on top of one another. They create an intimate "neighborhood" while visiting each other’s "homes", taking walks to various activities around town, to the waterfalls, the lakes, beaches or events, shops, restaurants, and pubs around town and on the Harbor front. Sitting in one of our bench swings, lounging in hammocks or gathering in the Adirondacks by an evening fire are great community and relationship builders. Sincerely, Dave and Wendy

Fantastic Gem

  • 5 of 5

Our family had an awesome time at your cottages! Thank you so much for all of your help in making our stay fun-from insider tips to an in-depth website as resources, there was so much to do! The cottages were a perfect match for our needs, and they were incredibly clean! All the kids loved the tire swing and the fire pit made a perfect respite for adults after the kids went to bed. Having five different cottages for our family reunion allowed us to have a perfect balance of socialization and rejuvenation/relaxation time. Every staff member who we talked to was friendly and accommodating. We also loved the proximity to town. Thank you for helping our trip be such a happy memory!!!

Thumbs up for The Cottages of Wolfeboro

  • 5 of 5

Bev & I are all too happy to comment on our stays at the Cottages. It's difficult to come up with something we don't like. Each time we return, things look better than they did the time before. All the work you put into the cottages and the property certainly shows. And with each of our subsequent Wolfeboro vacations the place feels more and more like a second home. Now, because you asked for our input, there is one little thing you might consider - that would be cushions of some sort on the kitchen chairs and bench. For those of us with old bottoms, a soft place to sit is hard to find.

Thanks for your hospitality,

Bev & Bill

We stayed in the smaller one and it was perfectly fine for the three of us and our dog. It was very clean and when we first arrived we were greeted and taken care of.

The warm water was an issue a couple of times but other than that I was very pleased with our stay and vacation at the cottages.
