Overview

About the property

Cabanas in Paradise on a beautiful Caribbean beach.

Our private cabanas ( we have 2 available) are approximately 300 square feet each, and have great views of the ocean, two beds (queen and full), a private bathroom, mini-fridge, a dinning table, chairs, and a closet. We furnish purified drinking water and offer free WiFi. The cabanas are steps from the Caribbean Ocean (20 ft). They offer the perfect mix between the Robinson Crusoe adventure you want, and the comforts of home that you need. There is a shared outdoor kitchen with a stove top and a bbq grill you are welcome to use. There are 2 restaurants/watering holes on the bay, within walking distance, that serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and a third that is open for breakfast only. There is a mini-super on the bay for essentials but Tulum, with full supermarkets is only 6 miles away.

* *

Our property is located in the cove of the Tankah Bay by the point. It is extremely tranquil and secluded, with wonderful ocean views. Imagine stepping out of your Cabaña onto a sandy beach and the beautiful turquoise waters of the Caribbean sea inviting you to step into her warm clear waters. In the evening enjoy the magical stillness on our moon lit cove and watch the stars come out to play. Nature welcomes you home to your 'Slice of Paradise'.

About Monika Rajala

We are a retired couple from California that have been living the good life in Mexico for over 30 years. We would love to share our little 'Slice of Paradise' with you.

Monika Rajala purchased this cabin in 1987

Why Monika Rajala chose Quintana Roo

When we discovered Tankah Bay, we just fell in love with it. We have always joked that you can see 27 shades of turquoise when you look into the bay. We were drawn to the area because of its magical energy, and the sweetness of the Mayan people. The beauty , after 30 years never ceases to amaze us. It is truly a SLICE OF PARADISE.

What makes this cabin unique

Pristine beauty away from the hustle and bustle of the big resort areas. Slice of Paradise is located near the end of a road that gets VERY little traffic. The morning sun rises and evening sunsets are breathtaking. You wake up to the sounds of the ocean and the tropical birds signing. It does not get any better than here In Tankah Bay, near Tulum.

Picture Perfect!

Slice of Paridise is very nice place! Arturo was very kind and helpful. It's a peaceful place that's quiet and clean. The only negative I have to say is the shower in cabana 1 lacks decent pressure. Their is an outdoor shower which works well though. The location was perfect for conveniently getting to all points of interests. Their are 3 restaurants within walking distance as well as a beautiful cenote. I look forward to returning one day.

An escape from the hustle and bustle of Tulum town but close enough to be in the party.

  • 5 of 5

A slice of paradise is quaint, quiet and truly a slice of paradise as the name says! Art and his wife June are kind aware and thoughtful hosts. Their property lacked nothing. Although the Cabanas were in close proximity to eachother we felt like we were on our own property. Tankha Bay is amazing for snorkeling for the whole family, completely enjoyable and empty has we saw only two other people in the water for the entire length of our 11-day trip. I would recommend, and will, this property to anyone and everyone! - Samm

you really have to pinch yourself when you look out from your breakfast table over the coral shelf and the glistening waters. It really is paradise.

When we first arrived and looked at the view it took our breath away, the location for a relaxing break is perfect. Or if you want to explore a little there is plenty to do around Tulum or north up the 307. we swam with Turtles, in numerous cenotes, in lagoons and even did some zip lining in the jungle.

The cabana was perfectly comfortable and had everything we expected we had cabana 1 with the view right on to the beach :-). June and Art are there if you want them but not if you don't, they were very helpful for us Brits.

There are 3 restaurants 10 minutes away which are fine and there are some good places on the main Tulum strip although a taxi will cost about 200 Mx peso and unless you book you may need walk down to Pavo Real to get one, but that's only 20 minutes so really not a problem. although in the jungle we didn't suffer from bites at all we were careful with repellent and fly screens but don't think you'll be eaten alive.

our last breakfast on the beach was something we took our time over, we wanted to absorb as much as possible before we left paradise and went back to reality!

Perfect romantic, private, peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

My fiance and I stayed in the casita for 6 nights this July and were in heaven. The casita has amenities we were seeking that the cabanas did not offer, like a full kitchen and air conditioning. Though, after seeing the two separate cabanas I think we would have been perfectly happy in one of them as well.

First, we were greeted immediately by Art, the owner. He and his wife were both kind and available to ask questions of, but they were very respectful of our privacy and did not interfere at all with our quiet times. They reside on-site in a detached home near the casita.

We had daily maid service and she was amazing!! Considering the enormous amounts of sand we tracked in along with little bugs and who knows what else, we always returned to a clean and neat home.

It is hard to convey just how special this place is, but it was exactly what we wanted for the right price. I looked from Akumal down to Tulum, and had stayed in Soliman Bay twice before, but the prices were not within our range, and we only needed a bed, bath and kitchen, not an elaborate mansion or pool. This fit the bill. The bay just steps from your sliding glass door is calm and fun to snorkel in, and there are three decent restaurants just south walkable along the beach or road from the casita and cabanas.

I would hope anyone booking here understands that Tankah is nothing like Cancun...the restaurants close up at nine, and they are far from fancy. People come here for peace and to soak in the beauty of this area not for partying or late nights.

A car rental is probably necessary to 90% of visitors, and it was nice for us to have one since we bought groceries in Tulum (huge market[s] there) and went to a couple nearby areas for the day. Having the full kitchen in the casita was handy and we prepared almost all our meals in the casita since it is equipped with everything you need.

If you feel the need for a little pampering there is a big resort 5 minutes drive south called Dreams. We got the 1/2 day pass for $50 per person and got all you can eat and drink, from 12 to 6pm. They have a swim up bar, several restaurants, kayaks for borrowing, you name it. It was fun to have the little luxuries, but everywhere we went we just wanted to get back to this little Slice of Paradise in Tankah!

In closing, be prepared to fall in love here. With nature, with yourself or your partner all over again, and with just being still!!

Tulum's best kept secret!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I stayed in the casita and cabana 1, each for 5 nights. it was amazing! Arturo & June are the most gracious hosts, and have created an incredible

"slice of paradise" for any traveller. The cabanas are so cute! nothing fancy, but very clean and comfortable. There are fans to keep you cool at night, and the ocean breeze kept the temperature down as well. The outdoor kitchen was great! all you need to make simple meals. Fresh water was provided in all the rooms, and the staff are wonderfully attentive and kind, keeping the property neat as a pin. The casita has its own kitchen, and A/C if you need it, though we never turned it on once. We used the ceiling fan, and let the ocean breezes keep us cool. the beach is fantastic, rarely had to share it with anyone! we spent our days lying on lounge chairs, under the palms, reading books, watching the pelicans and other sea birds, and going for walks. The water is crystal clear, and the snorkelling AMAZING! saw a sea turtle, mantarays, stingrays, and a myriad of spectacular fish! i've never seen colours like that, nor have I seen fish like that! it was truly the best snorkelling I've done. For the more adventurous, you can go out past the reef and have an even more exciting adventure! We highly recommend this property for anyone wanting an alternative to the busy beaches and tourist traps that you find in most other places. It was peaceful, and fun, and a pure joy to stay there. Kudos to Arturo and June for creating this perfect little slice of paradise.

Tankah is a great area - it's off the beaten path but close to everything. The Cabana is on a gorgeous stretch of beach on the sparkling clear turquoise wates for the Caribbean. It is protected by a barrier reef. You can swim, snorkel or Stand Up Paddle (SUP) off of our beach. There are 3 restaurants in the area within walking distance. There is fresh water Cenote to swim in. There is a dive shop in walking distance where you can arrange trips to snorkel, dive or fish, rent snorkel gear and kayaks. There are miles of beach coastline to explore. Tulum, 6 miles south, is nearby and has 2 major grocery stores and plenty of shops and restaurants. There are several attractions and ruins nearby. Swim with sea Turtles (year round); Sea Turtle Nesting/Hatching (May to Sept); Swim with Dolphins: Experience Cirque du Soleil; Explore Mayan Ruins; Climb Pyramids at some of Mayan Ruins; Visit Cenotes and Explore Caves; Float down Underground Rivers; Zip Line over the Jungle and into Cenotes and Caves; Snorkel; Scuba Dive; Visit Sian Kaan' Biosphere Reserve; Swim with Whale Sharks (May to September) and see Manta Rays in the wild; (off of Cancun)
