what some guests have to say…

...Gorgeous place that exceeded all expectations.

…One of the most charming places we have been!

…Great Family Getaway

...Amazing weekend at your beautiful home!

…My family and I cannot say thank you enough. We had such an amazing weekend in your beautiful home! It was more than we expected - the pictures don't do it justice:)

….This is a 'must go' place and a 'must have' experience. The place has an incredible infrastructure to accommodate even the most demanding. Very reserved and beautiful in every detail. We definitely want to go back and stay longer, it was a very romantic stay.”

This little gem deserves its acclaim! My family and I spent Thanksgiving there, and couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more. They layout of the home gave everyone an opportunity to commune in common spaces, while also allowing quiet time in their own quarters. The location is fantastic, as it is set back along the creek for wonderful views, yet shaded from close-by neighbors.

With a family ranging in age from five months to 92 years, Evan's property pleased us all. I would highly recommend this property to a friend or relative, and I hope that my family has the pleasure of staying again in the coming years.

…Evan was very easy to work with and made long-distance planning easy. I would do this again - preferably with a longer stay. It was easy for my 93 year old mother to navigate and enjoy view without having to climb stairs. The frogs and turtle in front pond were a hit with 10 year old. She counted 7. We found ladder, scissors, measuring tape, and other items handy when we needed them. Laundry facilities worked very well.

..This is a beautiful and unique property in a fantastic setting. The owner was easy to deal with and very responsive to our needs. Our stay was quite pleasant.

..Lovely furniture, nice garden with fountains, multiple terraces with a great view. Our favorite places within the unit were the roof-deck, the fireplace and the boardwalk down the stairs at the water. All together an explicit recommendation!

..What a treasure to find a home that was so perfect for our need, so private, yet so close to the downtown Annapolis area! This gorgeous home is on the water, and even in late winter, the views are incredible. It gave us a feeling of total privacy, but was only about a mile to the Naval Academy. The floor plan is open, has very fun and eclectic but comfortable decorating, and with bedrooms and the main living areas on the main floor it was very easy for my 'stair challenged' father to be part of the group without having to climb any stairs. Highly recommend this house!

.. We just returned from a too-short stay at this stunning home. Everything I read in the reviews and saw in the photos was accurate - for my first experience with HomeAway that was great. Evan was very nice to deal with, easygoing, clear, comfortable to talk to, and accessible. He responded quickly to my inquiry and follow-ups.

Evan met us when I arrived with my parents and kids, and put us at ease while efficiently showing us around the house/property. He has a calm friendly way about him.

The home is stunning without being fussy. Everywhere you look is an artfully designed nook or a serene view into another space. The windows all across the waterside lend an outdoors-indoors feel.

My job brings me to high end golf/spa resorts, so my expectations for decor and cleanliness are high but I always want unique character too. This home has it all. It was clean and very neat, decorated with a wonderful sense of humor and beauty, and an intuition about what will make people feel comfortable. Interesting books are all around. The mannequin at the dinner table was a surprise to my very conservative parents but we all enjoyed her as a conversation piece. The outdoor areas are not sparkling new, but the photos are accurate and the comfort and character were better, to us, than generic perfection. We had fun in the driveway with the scooter, basketball hoop, and punching bag. The kitchen was well appointed and we brought food to enjoy lunches and breakfasts at the house.

The hot tub was perfect - watching the stars and the falling leaves in there was heavenly. We enjoyed the sitting area around the outdoor fire pit and had morning coffee floating on the barge with its fire pit going. Lunch was up on the rooftop deck. The trees are tall enough to give privacy even up there. We marveled over how the home absorbed 8 people with plenty of space to stretch out and relax. The bedrooms were luxurious - very comfortable beds, each room had its own personality. My parents liked the most conservative middle room with its serene blue-grey walls. My younger brother and SIL chose the memory-foam mattress in the 'antler' room. My sister and I shared the master bedroom with the view. Loved it! Hope to be back again soon!

Hi Evan -- I wanted to tell you we all LOVED your home! It absolutely made our USNA reunion perfect. We lucked out and the weather was beautiful all weekend too. We never even felt the need to go into town -- we just sat on the dock/decks enjoying old friends and your beautiful view. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us! We hope to return again...

Wonderful property in an amazing setting!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this property. The house lends itself to both entertaining and quiet. Large enough to house a good size family this home really wowed our family group gathering. The owner takes a sincere interest in your experience. I would highly recommend your staying here.

Beautiful Views

  • 4 of 5

We loved enjoying the beautiful view through all of the windows around the house as well as being on the many deck options. The living room and dining room are very open which creates a spacious and enjoyable experience. The fireplace was perfect for the colder weather. Everything was very clean which is also appreciated.

A scenic retreat close to town.

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time at the house for a fall girls weekend. The view was breathtaking with the foliage on the water and it was a great location near town. We loved enjoyed the fire pit and the hot tub, and appreciated that all 12 of us all fit comfortably and there were plenty of bathrooms. I would definitely stay here again. The host was very responsive and great to work with.

Excellent amenities, Fantastic setting, Great Owner

  • 5 of 5

I need to start by saying how excellent Evan was in answering my 100's of questions about the property and surrounding area, and made some excellent recommendations. Furthermore, he was always very responsive and definitely went above and beyond when we requested a pay per view boxing match that required him to call up HBO (we had the match on within an hour). He's a class act and it really made a difference.

The property itself is fantastic. The pictures almost dont do it justice, you're getting exactly what you hope you're getting. The house itself is spacious and well outfitted (14 people can sleep comfortably). The grounds are fairly expansive and very conducive to hanging out outdoors (rooftop deck, balcony, patio, dock, etc.). The water was very swimmable as well and the dock is massive (it actually does detach but it's pretty heavy so dont plan on taking it out very far). The dock was where the majority of my time was spent during the weekend and is probably the best feature, but there's many to choose from.

A+ all around. Will need another occasion to rent 3 Steffen Point again.

Don’t waste your time or money on this “home” - it's FALSE ADVERTISING. Worth the read.

  • 1 of 5

Quite simply, the condition of the "home" is completely misrepresented by the description, pictures & reviews. It was like walking into an abandoned home. We've vacationed in dozens of rentals, and have never experienced anything close to these poor conditions.

A few of the worst disappointments:

-Upon arriving we were unable to enter the home as the door’s keypad was broken. The “prop. manager” let us in but KEPT THE KEYS. We had to lock valuables in our vehicles while we were away from the home. A day into the stay, we noticed that the "prop. manager" had duct-taped the deadbolt so that the DOOR COULD NOT BE LOCKED FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE.

-The house was filthy & smelled strongly of mold/mildew and had dust/bugs/cobwebs inside & out. We understand it is woodsy (stayed in plenty before, hence decision to stay here) but that's not an excuse for negligent prop. management.

-The linens were 10+ years old w/stains & filth.

-Floating dock is a health & safety hazard, it's completely caked in layers of Goose/Duck feces. Not an amenity, cannot be used.

-“Prop. manager” said we CANNOT SWIM IN THE WATER, yet reviews rave about swimming here...false.

-All outdoor furniture had to be covered with a towel before use to avoid staining clothing.

-The top deck had a nice view; however, the wood planks are warped/rotting and, as a result, a family member's foot fell through the decking.

-Broken items: oil burner alarm was duct-taped in “off” position, master bath tub, fireplace & grill, power outlets.

We were in contact with the owner, Evan, as soon as we arrived. We were disappointed and were ready to move to a nearby hotel for the remainder of our trip. However, Evan said he'd send a cleaning crew to the home on the following day, so we stayed through the first night. Later the next day the "cleaning crew” (aka negligent “property manager”) arrived to do less than the bare minimum. She hosed off the patio furniture...that was it. Evan finally offered to refund a portion of the payment (in exchange for no bad reviews), claiming he had not seen the house in several months and felt terrible about our experience. My family and I thought, great, the owner isn't trying to scam us and he seems to be a reasonable person...ALL FALSE.

Unfortunately, we've learned what kind of an owner Evan is & chose to posted this review - refusing his offer to protect others from going through the same awful ordeal.

We should've paid closer attention to REVIEW FROM JUNE2014.

Owner's Response: PROPERTY OWNERS BEWARE! As a property owner, this has been a real eye-opening experience. Seems we have very little protection against scammers. The home & property are in great shape as we have consistently received over 60 five-star reviews! They speak for themselves. We take tremendous pride in delivering a memorable back to nature vacation experience with very comfortable and clean accommodations. The renters that posted this scathing review were scamming me for money. I immediately informed VRBO/HomeAway & they assured me they would censor the review so I decided not to give in to the scammers demands. Unfortunately, VRBO/HomeAway has now apologized & said their customer representative gave me incorrect advice & that they would re-educate all of their call center reps. Bottom line…if you have a real issue with a renter, make sure you ask to talk directly with a VRBO manager or supervisor & get it in writing. We are taking steps now to make sure scammer situations like this don’t happen again. The only discrepancy from the pictures & description in my listing is that the 40’ floating dock at times, gets taken over by a gaggle of geese. This can happen overnight. We’ve been trying various humane ways of discouraging them. The floating dock has provided great fun to renters in the past so we are now installing a short removable fence in order to fend off the geese. Of course, you can swim in the creek as it is connected to the Chesapeake Bay! Sometimes the Bay is not recommended for swimming especially if there has recently been too much rain runoff, jelly fish, etc, as was the case when these renters arrived. We advise guests to be careful and direct them to safer swimming locations very nearby towards the more open portions of the Bay. We suggest guests follow the Maryland.gov guidelines for swimming in the Chesapeake Bay. Again, we can only work with nature, not control it. I suggest to anyone considering this beautiful 2 acre estate nestled in a forest on the banks of the Chesapeake Bay that, if you and your family are overly obsessive about sterile conditions, this close to nature experience may not be for you. My property manager and my cleaning crew do a tremendous job as the reviews will affirm. To those looking for a relaxing & nourishing experience with family & friends, we look forward to continuing to provide you with a wonderful 5-star experience at our Steffen Point Oasis. Thank you. Evan
