Start planning your vacation for 2016... This is the perfect place to relax and unwind and have that SPECIAL vacation. You will be able to kayak or canoe in one of the boats we provide or even row in the row boat. Or you can just sit and enjoy the view of the lake from our large open concept living area with pellet stove, or sit in the sun room by the gas fireplace . Enjoy the large deck overlooking water with table and chairs for you to enjoy a meal or go out on the dock and enjoy a meal over the water. The house has the master bedroom with queen size bed on the second floor, with spectacular views of the lake with an adjoining sitting area has a trundle bed (sleeps 2). The first floor bedroom has a double bed. You can swim and boat from our beach or dock.
Mt. Monadnock is only 5 miles away and hiking trails are all around us. The historic town of Harrisville center is only 1 mile away with its general store, weaving center, and more lakes, and the town beach. Keene & Peterborough are 10 miles away. Like to golf...many great courses nearby. A great place to relax and unwind !
Historic town of Harrisville: The town of Harrisville is one of the most photographed towns in New England with its lakes and beautiful brick buildings overlooking the town center. Harrisville Designs is a well known center for weaving classes and yarn shop. The town center is within walking distance to the house with its wonderful General store with restaurant and essentials.
Many Lakes to enjoy: Harrisville has 9 bodies of water to enjoy, Harrisville Pond in the center of town has a wonderful beach for everyone to enjoy. You can canoe, kayak, row, on any one of them. Bring your motor boat and water-ski on many of them.
LIKE TO HIKE AND BIKE!!! Mount Monadnock is only 5 miles from the lake and is the most climbed mountain in New England. It is an easy climb and the views are spectacular in all directions. There are quiet roads all around to bicycle on as well as bike trails in nearby Keene and Peterboro.
Doug & Pat and their sons built this house in the 80's and enjoyed it for many years and are now living in Harrisville just down the street from the lake. Pat the artist and Doug is a former teacher.
Both retired now and are busy with gardening and trying to enjoy life on the easy side!
This house has so many wonderful memories for the entire family from fishing from the docks to just sitting on the deck and enjoying the fantastic views of the water and having great barbecues on the deck. And watching our grandchildren enjoy the beach and lake as well. We designed the house so you can see the water from almost every room in the house... so you won't miss anything on the water!
Everything you would ever want to do is right there in the house or on the lake - walking, reading (on the deck or on the dock), canoeing, relaxing. We took daily short trips to bike area trails. The pellet stove was great for cool fall mornings. People and Labrador retriever heaven.
We arrived at night in the dark with a non-functioning GPS. (our owner warned of this) Following a winding lakeside road we did find our destination where the owners had thoughtfully put on every possible light in the house. Great instructions for starting the pellet fireplace and the gas stove were waiting. The open space living area was attractive and stairs led to the master bedroom suite which my son claimed. Mother took the downstairs bedroom nearer the bathroom. Plenty of bed covers. We settled in. Although the weather had turned cold, rainy and windy the house, we did get to fish and hike every day right from the house which has a dock for a boat. Life preservers were available. Some good fish were large and small mouth bass. The kitchen was well equipped and the owners had supplied bottled spring water. We used the grill one night. The weather did not permit use of the nice deck overlooking the lake. Especially enjoyable was sitting by the gas fireplace in the sun room with a morning coffee and a good book. Pat came by and we had a good chat. She gave my son a fish net and offered more information about the area . I would recommend a leaf peeping or summer visit to fully enjoy this house.
My husband and I spent a week at Pat and Doug's Lakehouse while house hunting .. Everything was clean and well maintained even the boats were put out by the dock for easy access for a quick paddle in the morning before heading out for the day. It was so peaceful hearing and seeing the loons every morning .. We had a couple of issues with the internet but Pat was very responsive and there to accommodate us with a solution, which we truly appreciated. Thanks so much for a wonderful week and giving us ideas for potential properties and dining .. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet week at the lake.
Beautiful setting. Very comfortable. Enjoyed the lake. Owners are very nice.
We recently stayed at the property and had a wonderful time. The views of the lake were wonderful throughout the day. We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the morning with our coffee but also enjoyed watching the moon over the lake in the evening. The owners were gracious but not intrusive. The house pretty much has everything you need. We spent every day of our vacation at the small beach or in the water. The kayak, canoe and row boat were used by all of us. We didn't end up using the innertube until the last day. The fishing off of the dock or boats is great. Both of my daughters were able to catch sizable fish from each location. We were lucky to hit prime blueberry picking season and grabbed quite a few berries from the shoreline. I recommend taking a walk past the waterfall and checking out the trails. There is one main trail that is pretty easy to walk on and there is a more tricky trail off to the left called "North Pond". (Make sure to where good shoes and apply bug spray). If you are in the mood to eat out I am sure that Pat will tell you about Kimball's Farm. I would also like to recommend Marzano's in Peterborough. The food there was delicious but be prepared to pay for it. Fiddlehead's restaurant and catering in Hancock NH makes wonderful panini sandwiches. I am sure their other offering's are good as well. One final comment...I was a little worried heading up for the week because my daughters who are ages 13 and 15 are technology addicted. I was afraid that they would either be on their technology or telling us how bored they were. I am not going to lie, we did have to pry the technology out of their hands but once they got to the kayaking...fishing...etc they really enjoyed themselves and have continually talked about what a great week it was. I would recommend this place to family and friends because it is one of the best deals for a house on the water with it's own dock/beach.
We had a restful and peaceful week at the House on the Lake. Many thanks to Pat and Doug for sharing their comfortable home . We used the kayak and appreciated that they had set up the fire pit for our use. They even had an extensive library for our use when we ran short on novels. The only concern was that the house was a short distance from Harrisville Designs and my husband threaten legal action if I added any more yarn to my stash! It doesn't get better than this.....sun, water and a great yarn shop all in the same location!
