We stayed in this lovely cabin for a family ski vacation. We were delighted at the open, airy feel of the cabin and the amount of light the large windows allowed. The cabin is accurately described with woodsy decor with many dreamcatchers (its given name) - charming. It was roomier than expected; we felt at home. The couch in the picture has been replaced by a leather/vinyl chocolate couch which was quite comfortable. The loft upstairs was larger than expected and can room six children comfortably (we had four).
I was pleased at the large number of pots/pans/utensils/appliances found in the kitchen. The owners also use a property management company which rents their cabin, so some of the equipment was well used, but still had much use in it. There is large table which can fit 10 people. Note here: the bench seat of the table is against the open stair rail that leads down to the garage. If you have an infant/young toddler (9 mo-2) who climbs indiscriminately; this could be dangerous. However, my two year old had no problem with it. Stairs to loft are open on one side (see owner's pics).
One of the highlights of the house was the outdoor jacuzzi tub. There were a plethora of towels available - much appreciated. My children found the beds comfortable. Unfortunately, I have a bad back and had a hard time being comfortable on the beds. They were firm but I woke up sore. I ended up sleeping on the couch. If you have back problems, you may want to bring a topper, etc. They have a large capacity washer and dryer that comes off the master bedroom that worked very well. The bathrooms functioned well.
While we were there, we skied Timberline because we are beginners and wanted to use the 2 mile Salamander run. We chose the weekdays for skiing and with the less than perfect weather and record low snowfall, had the resort to ourselves; excellent for learning how to ski. Great ski instructors for adults and kids! I thought the nursery/childcare facility (we used twice for total of 4 hours) was fair, workers were nice. We also tubed and ice skated at Canaan Valley Resort and hiked at Blackwater Falls. There is a lovely nature center for the refuge which my kids enjoyed.
I would return to this cabin. I think it was an excellent value for the price and met all our expectations and more. We saved money by renting directly from the owner instead of the rental company. She was responsive, helpful, reasonable and professional.
We just got home yesterday from our family vacation at the Dreamcatcher Cabin. There were 10 adults and a toddler and we stayed for three nights. What a wonderful time!
The cabin was clean and well-stocked. Hot tub was ready to go, kitchen had a little bit of everything you might need to cook with, plenty of firewood, extra towels and linens, plenty of books/games/movies/tv to keep you entertained...we especially enjoyed playing Masterpiece...hadn't played that in years - so fun!
The pictures of the cabin really do not do it justice - it is absolutely beautiful and great layout for such a large family. Each couple had their own little bedroom/bathroom nook and then shared the open floor plan (LR, kitchen, dining area.) The dining room table sat all of us comfortably and there were some extra chairs in the bedrooms that we pulled out also. My toddler especially loved the clawfoot bathtub with additional movable showerhead.
The mountain the cabin sits on, as well as the other surrounding cabins are also gorgeous! The other cabins are out of view, so it felt like you were secluded, which was nice for privacy. We saw lots of deer while driving on and off the mountain. The cabin is super close to Timberline and Canaan - we skied Canaan. It was a blast!
It snowed the first two nights we were there and it was magical - we woke up to a winter wonderland! The heat worked wonderfully, as well as the fireplace...as the temperature outside was in the 20s.
Our only hang-up was we had a hard time with the key lock, but figured it out in a couple minutes and one garage door was hard to close, but we just used the second one for one car and the rest just parked in the driveway. Neither of these were a big deal at all - just some minor repairs for the owners to note. The owners are awesome and super responsive! They were readily available and easy to work with! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us! It made our vacation great - none of us wanted to leave!
What a wonderful place for my family's get away! We loved the house and all it had to offer. The fireplace was amazing and kept us warm on the cold nights. Sitting in the hot tub with the snow falling is a memory I will hold onto forever. The owner's were amazing and easy to work with. The kitchen was well stocked for a thanksgiving dinner.
First off don't hesitate in renting this beautiful home! This home is everything that the owners advertised. The home was clean, lots of room, decorated perfect and a great home like feeling. Location is perfect and sitting outside was peaceful . The hot tub was a added bonus.....
We would sit outside in the morning with our coffee and wait for the deer to come down the mountain. This place will make you feel like you are in your own little world! I want to also thank Karen & Dave for leaving my husband and I stayed in your beautiful home! I stay in Timberline every time that I visit and I will be a returning customer.
We recently spent our third week in this wonderful home. We have rented directly from the owners every time and they are so easy to contact and great to deal with.
We love this location and home. The house is nicely decorated, always clean when we arrive and has everything we need for our vacations. It was so peaceful. We would sit outside and listen to the crickets at night and the occasional hummingbird early in the day. We watched the deer roam around the property on several occasions and even had a mother bear and her 2 cubs walk through the front yard one evening (she took off running as soon as she realized we were there.)
We had our kids with us for the long weekend and then they headed home and we had the house to ourselves. Had magnificent sunsets up on the Dolly Sods and spent many hours fishing all of the lakes. Plenty of hiking as well. I know that the home has TV and Wifi, though we only used the TV for a couple of movies and the wifi for a fantasy football draft. We went to unplug from the rest of the world, and it worked beautifully.
I highly recommend this cabin and as I have already told the owners, we will be back.
We rented directly from the owners and found them to be caring, they made sure that we had a great experience. We found them to be fair, honest, and easy to reach. We have always rented vacation homes by owner and have had a great experience in doing so.
We arrived to see a great log cabin in the woods that was very private with a small pond. Upon
entering the home we found a clean homely atmosphere that was very tastefully decorated which gave it a very homely feel to it. The kitchen was stocked with more than you will ever need, had a large dining room with a large table. We found the whole home to be very comfortable and enjoyable. The owners have taken a great deal of pride, and have done a great deal of work in their vacation home.
This is a great place for skiers in the winter as well as nature lovers in the summer and for those who like their privacy . You will not be disappointed if you rent this lovely home. Every day their would be deer in the yard that you could enjoy and photograph up close. The ski trails are about five minutes away from the home and there's a lot of things to see and do.
