Map
Sissi, only a 5 minute car drive away, is quiet fishing village with an authentic little harbor, romantic seafood tavernas, nice beaches and a few select souvenir shops.
A few kilometres further lies Milatos, another small village know for its seafood restaurants by the sea. It also offers a small local attraction, the Milatos Cave, with a small chapel at the entrance. Here, in times of the Turkish occupation, the locals tried to find safety.
Malia, on the other hand, is a very lively little town with various shopping and entertainment opportunities. The famous nightlife of Malia takes place on the Beach Road only, leaving the rest of the town relatively quiet. In the many twisting little alleys of the old town you will find many typically Greek tavernas and restaurants with roof gardens and bouganvillia bushes, where will quickly feel like home. And, if you can keep a secret, we will be glad to tell you where to find our personal favorites...
Favorites such as our beloved 'Potamos' beach, a beautiful sandy beach with clear waters, perfect for long swims or playing in the waves on windy afternoons. The calm and shallow waters in the adjacent bay are ideal for small kids.
Alkmini also is the perfect starting point for short and long excursions into every direction. You could visit the East, West, or South of Crete, take a trip to the Lasithi plateau, to the aquarium, to Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, or the island of Spinalonga.
Golf: the 18-hole golf course in Chersonissos offers, for beginners and pro's alike, anything you could wish for, and all in a truly beautiful landscape. From Alkmini, it is a 20 minute drive to get there.

My personal hobby is horseback riding. For this, we regularly drive into the mountais, to Sabine and Manolis' Odysseia Stables. Riding through the Cretan mountains is always a wonderful way to let go for a while and relax.
My husband, Panagiotis, is a passionate motorcyclist, and even though he has been at it for years, there are probably plenty of hidden corners, monasteries and taverns he has not discovered yet. Maybe you will...
