About Sally Betz

Own and manage this property and professionally manage properties at Diversified North Property Management. I couldn't do it without the help of Nancy Marchant, who has assisted me with everything from cleaning to shopping, lawn and yard maintenance and a long term tenant of mine as well.

Sally Betz purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Sally Betz chose Anchorage

The location is ideal, close to downtown but also convenient access in or out of Anchorage. The previous owners did most of the initial updates, conversions and furnishings. Since my ownership, I've changed out carpets, furniture and furnishings in all my units since.

What makes this apartment unique

Honestly, the building was not love at first sight, the exterior styling of the building deterred me from looking at it initially. Once I saw interior of the building and the conditions, I was sold. The convenience of two sets of washers and dryers in the building is a nice amenity to have. Once coin op, they are now free for all to use.

Guestbook comments from the owner

... I really enjoyed your Studio Apt - it was quiet and perfect for me!

Since it rained or was overcast almost the whole 3 weeks, I wasn't bothered by Alaska's "midnight sun".

The kitchen was very convenient and nice to have. The swivel TV was great, and nice to have DVD player, too.

And Alaska had the 4th of July fireworks at midnight down the street the night I arrived! ...& it was rainy, windy & cold! But the show went on for like 45-minutes!

Quiet and Comfy!

  • 4 of 5

Sally and assistant Nancy are very lovely and kind. We enjoyed our stay and loved the quiet and relaxing area. The room was perfect for two and very clean. We had all we needed. We appreciate being accepted and our son's wedding was just perfect. The surrounding neighborhood was quiet and we enjoyed the neighbors doggies. Thank you very much and we will recommend others that may need a place to stay. God bless and thanks again!!! xoxox :)

Maybe for a day or two

  • 2 of 5

I didn't read the small print. Booked three weeks with no oven, no stove. Just a microwave and a toaster that set off the smoke alarm. Awful neighborhood. Police action next door. Neighbors car was broken into in our parking lot. Homeless and drunks wandering everywhere. Barking dogs next door outside all hours of the day and night. Very clean. Bathroom, bed and linens were excellent. Sink is smaller than a dinner plate so had to eat everything on salad plate! Two lamps and clock at bedside could not be plugged in. No plugs. Had to buy a headlamp to read in bed. Free laundry!

Owner's Response: In reading your review, I'm happy to hear that the unit itself was nice, outside of not having a full kitchen. So sad and very surprised at hearing all the negatives in your review. I have not had these types of reports and complaints prior to this incident. I'll speak to the owner of the neighboring building about the quiet hours, and dogs barking. For future guests here; please do contact me directly. My contact phone number is provided in the Welcome Information. I need to know about these problems as they happen so I can be responsive and do what I can. As for the Police activity, the break in to vehicle outside, and the inebriates walking about, I cannot control what happens in our city, but thefts throughout Anchorage have been on the rise. Homeless and drunks everywhere seems like an exaggeration to me, but I do not live on sight. I'll check with the other people that currently live in the building and see if there has been noticeable increases, how many and how long. As for lighting in the bedroom area, we did have lamps on the side table there, to the best of my knowledge, when last checked, they worked. I'll check and make sure that a previous tenant did not move things. I manage many properties in Anchorage, I would have offered other accommodations if you had let me know of your extreme displeasure with the property. Please try me again on your return to Anchorage. I can give you a One Bedroom with full kitchen, possibly even a garage space. I'm working on getting more properties posted on VRBO soon. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback and review. Sally

Nice place to stay.

  • 4 of 5

Close to downtown and not far from the airport. The place was clean and bed comfortable. The only complaint is the shower head. It falls off easily and rests in an awkward position making taking a shower more of a pain! Overall a very nice place to stay though.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your nice review. Sorry about that shower head, I think that repair item slipped through the cracks. I'll get that repair scheduled! Sally

Well located, soulless and efficient.

  • 3 of 5

The studio apartment represented good value for the price but we felt it was more a business for Sally rather than as it has been for many of our other hosts to enjoy meeting guests as well. Nancy, Sally's Dynamo of an assistant is a gem and both Sally and Nancy were very helpful when telephoned with questions.

It would have made us feel so much more welcome had there been some maps and information about Anchorage provided and perhaps a few basic provisions to assist before we went shopping ourselves. Where we are staying now in Vancouver is the complete opposite. Nibbles, bread, butter and jam in the fridge. Spices, salt, pepper, plastic wrap and foil all the items you don't want to purchase when only staying for a week. We hosts guests in our home and provide these basic items.

Sally was most organised regarding key pick up and entry to the apartment.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the recommendations, I will add the tourist information and the basics you mentioned. This property is hands off for me, but I am always available to reach by phone. My experience with the property and other vacation rentals that I've stayed at is they are "self catered" and don't interact with or meet the owners. Bed and breakfast on the other hand, are a great place to meet and socialize with the owners.

Cute little studio

  • 5 of 5

Condo is just like described and spot on to the many great reviews. From the outside, the building is a bit rundown, to say the least, but this unit is very well put together, clean and comfortable. The parking lot also has many bumps in it, so be careful walking on it at night as I almost tripped over one of the mounds in the pavement. It was also very quiet, which was a necessity for us since we were constantly on the move all day, so sleep was very important. Queen bed was very comfortable. Shower very hot. TV and internet worked great.

Location is about a 5 minute drive to downtown Anchorage and the train station. We took the Alaska Railroad (which we HIGHLY recommend) to Seward our first morning and it took about 6 minutes to get there at 6:15AM. We had breakfast at Snow City (which we highly recommend as well). It was a long wait on a late Saturday morning, so next time we would definitely make reservations online the day before.

The owner, Sally, was very responsive and had zero issues accessing the building and then getting into the unit when we arrived very late at night. She's also priced her condo very reasonable compared to the Anchorage hotels that run $250 and up per night.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very informative review, this is very helpful to others. As for the parking situation. I've been actively getting bids for removing/replacing the parking area, which is a very large undertaking!
