Let me be your personal concierge. Whatever you need I'll arrange for you. Need good solid local information? My 50 years of local experience here can be put to good use anytime you want. I enjoy helping people. It's my job.... I visited Kauai in 1970 and stayed on and basically never left. The charming people of Kauai and the exquisite beauty enticed me from my very first days on the island and I'm grateful every day to be blessed to live in such a wonderful healthy environment amongst such wonderful people and such a vibrant culture. I enjoy helping people and I'm available to my clients on a 24/7 basis. It's an honor and a privilege to be able to serve my guests by providing my home to so many of them and helping them to discover the wonders of this magical place. Why Mark chose Hanalei
River Estate is a completely unique experience. The property location on North Kauai is in arguably one of the nicest areas of the whole state and quite possibly the world. Because there had always been interest in short term renting here I decided to turn both homes into a vacation rentals. There are certain places on the island and in Hawaii that are so special that people from all over the world have heard about them and have a desire to visit them. Not only is Kauai so very special, I believe Hanalei and the surrounding area is the very best Kauai has to offer. Although I have lived here for 50 years I have not forgotten the feelings I first felt when I arrived here. These are the experiences that lock this place in peoples hearts and minds and keeps bringing them back. It isn't the things you do here but the actual island itself, it's charm and it's local people that bring visitors back time and time again.

The primary benefits of River Estate are the seclusion and privacy of the expansive botanical gardens and its special location in the scheme of things here on the north shore of Kauai. It's very close to all the world famous beaches north Kauai is noted for and central between Hanalei and the end of the road at Ke'e Beach yet its very private and secluded. You'll relax and rejuvenate your spirit here. The fact you can use the river to access the beach from the house and ocean is not offered by any other vacation rental on Kauai. The privacy and natural setting allow our guests to experience a truly relaxing and rewarding time away from their normal lives and leaves a lasting impression of what some consider to be true paradise. Not many rental homes are kept in the condition that the Guest House is kept in and our guests reflect that in their reviews. We're proud of that. It's our stock in trade so to speak. - Our stock in trade consists of our attention to the care and maintenance of the homes and grounds, the attention to detail in every aspect and my concierge services which have proven to be quite helpful to many of my guests. I have developed many relationships during my 44 years here and now have contracts with activity providers to help with those bookings and a travel agency which has proven to still be very viable since I can pass on some of my commission to you as a saving. I'll make sure you get all the information you need whenever you need or request it.

A Piece of Paradise!
We totally enjoyed staying at the Guest Cottage! It was very clean and welcoming. The unit is nicely furnished and not cluttered [which we have found in some other rentals]. The property feels like it is isolated due to the thick vegetation around it which shields it from other houses in the neighborhood. The sound of the river is quite soothing and mostly drowns out the occasional dog bark and rooster crow [many fewer roosters here than any other place on Kauai that we have stayed!]. The porch has a nice table for outdoor eating that overlooks the river. The kitchen is well stocked with everything that you need. The owner Mark called to check in with us a few days after we arrived and was available for questions before and during our stay. I would recommend this rental. The only negative was that we needed to unload the dishwasher when we arrived. Suggestion: be careful when adjusting the hot water for the shower as there is a fine line between "just right" and very hot.

I did find out why the dishwasher was not unloaded though as you piqued my interest. It was Super Bowl Sunday when my housekeeper cleaned and she "had" to leave it. Sorry it bothered you. Needless to say this is the first negative comment my housekeeper has received since she started years ago and I was curious as to why it happened. Thanks again for your business I really appreciate it.

Blissful
We had a blissful stay here - a lovely house in a beautiful setting, sparkling clean and well-appointed. Very quiet - we loved listening to the river and the birds. Comfortable beds, great bathrooms. Short drive to great beaches and wonderful food and shopping. We'd love to return!

This was everything that had been advertised and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay despite mother nature providing more rain than sunshine! The owner was very helpful in facilitating the rental of bicycles for our use, and immediately responded to our concerns regarding wifi. He also kept us apprized of local weather reports and road closures during our stay.
Great house!
This house is in a great location only a few minutes from Hanalei and Ha’ena State Park. The neighborhood is just a little remote and very quiet. There are neighbors, but you seldom see them or hear them. It’s super clean and meticulously maintained. Mark is available for questions, advice, etc. If you’re looking for a place on Kauai’s north end, this is a great choice.
Wonderful December stay
We stayed in the guest house for 3 nights and loved it! 2 adults two young kids. The kitchen was super well stocked, home was clean and well kept. Mark was fantastic and helpful with planning and ideas. The location Is amazing close to great beaches, Hanalei, Ha’ena State park (reservations required) and it was wonderful being next to the river. We loved being at the end of the driveway and it felt very private. Absolutely plan to stay here again if we make it back!

Our comforting and quiet accommodations are in a convenient and central North Kauai location a block up river from the beach. 2 miles west is Haena State Park, the Kalalau trail and Ke'e Beach which can be easily accessed by bicycle from the property. 2 miles East is the town of Hanalei. The surrounding area is lush and pristine with the feel of Hawaii as it was before development. There is a wide range of outdoor activities and world famous attractions in close proximity to the property that are enhanced by the exquisite landscape and the surrounding ocean.
