Restore yourself at La Luna Vista, your luxury Bali home offering complete privacy and a 360 degree view of a lush, eco protected valley from every room in this modern custom built home. It's a modern Shangri La, yet a 2 minute drive into one of Costa Rica's loveliest towns, with it's 5 markets, restaurants, English speaking emergency room, orchid trees and church overlooking the central square and, according to Natl Geographic, 'the best weather in the world'. Centrally located, La Luna Vista is a 'home base' for your entire Costa Rican vacation and easy drives to volcanoes, cloud forests, beaches, river rafting, fishing, surfing, coffee farms, ziplining, monkeys and bird watching. For an active or relaxing vacation

It's 'pura vida' as you sit by the pool overlooking the neighboring farm while the butterflies dance around you. Open the pocket doors entirely to the world outside while cooking in the in the completely modern gourmet kitchen or BBQ on the deck. House is on one level with modern convenience.

The Best of All Possible Worlds: Our brand new home La Luna Vista really has all the modern amenities but is surrounded by nature. The Costa Rican government has chosen to preserve our gorgeous valley because of it's great natural beauty. You see only trees and mountains from the terrace that surrounds the house no matter where you look. At night, nature provides a light show in the clear skies, and sometimes you can watch lightening dance over the mountains beyond the valley. There is complete privacy yet on the other hand there are neighbors close by. Our little town of Atenas has wonderful restaurants, many supermarkets with Chilean and Argentinean wines, even pizza delivery and modern American kitchen necessities. A farmers market where all the surrounding farmers bring delicious mangoes, veggies, colorful fruits a local specialties happens every Friday in the park.

Activities? Or not!: You can relax poolside, sip smoothies or a glass of wine and completely remove yourself from the stress of contemporary life. But if you want to check your emails, we have wi-fi, and your Blackberry /iphoneworks in Costa Rica.

If you are looking for a more active time away from home, butterfly farms, volcanoes rain forests, river rafting, horseback riding, are all an easy drive.

If you want to hang ten or simply stroll on the pristine Costa Rica Beaches or swim in the warm Pacific water of famous surfing beaches like Jaco and Playa Hermosa which are only 45 minutes away.

Pura Vida!: It's no accident that Costa Ricans' motto is 'Pura Vida.' They are lovely, well educated, warm, and welcoming people.

About diana baron

I am a mom, business owner, and i grew up in a large family in Los Angeles. I love Latin culture, the kindess, the food, the love of family, and the appreciation of nature.

Why diana baron chose Alajuela Province

More than ten years ago, my son had a 'foreign country' experience during high school right in this tiny town of Costa Rica. While visiting him, his art teacher showed me this area, where at the time there were no houses, and basically a wild hill overlooking the valley. i felt at that moment i had found 'my place' on this earth, like the character in Carlos Castenada speaks about. So, i bought the land. It took me two years to find the right designer and builder to work with, whose aesthetic i appreciated and who understood mine. The designer was an American woman so she had experienced the many conveniences in homes that other builders here didn't - lots of closets, lots of drawers and storage in the kitchen etc. Her husband Fred was my builder and he used a crew headed by Lumberto to build the house. Fred & LInda have moved back tothe states, but i still work with Lumberto on upgrades and in face Jaime, who worked on my crew, is my caretaker. They know every square inch of this place and feel a part of it too.

What makes this house unique

I am writing this while sitting in the swing chair on the veranda over looking the valley. I can hear the Tucans croaking in the tree below and the sound of birds in the morning is beautiful. My neighbors cows are just now making their way to the river below. i've already taken a walk through mango fields and coffee fields. I brought some carrots with me todayy to feed some of the horses I see along the way. i make my way during the day from here, to the rocking chairs, to the hammock to the lounge chairs, etc. while checking the news in the States.

Families welcome, but no children under 5. There are a few stairs to get from driveway to the house, but the house itself is on one level. we have had plenty of active older guests stay at the house and be completely comfortable. the house will be cleaned when you arrive and once a week if your stay is longer than a week. However, you may wish daily maid service for an additional $30.00 per day. the house also has a complete wifi set up, and you can work and not tell your colleagues you are in Costa Rica.

living on a cloud

  • 5 of 5

"I have the difficult task of explaining what it feels to live on a cloud, literally, because the clouds swiftly surround this piece of land from time to time for just a few moments and you exist for a small time with the sky. The rolling hills that extend into the horizon from the property's backyard spoil your appetite to taste other adventures Costa Rica has to offer...why visit a cloud forest when you live in one? And, the beauty of this home absolutely ruins your patience to stay in any other vacation home less exceptional than this house. This house sits furthest out on the best slice of land in the community so no other rooftop adulterates the view of the magnificent Atenas mountains. You feel like you are the only person in the world with the safe satisfaction of a small, friendly community of home-owners right behind you. The decor of the house is minimal and craftful and every turn offers another opportunity to enjoy the goodness of life. And that's all before leaving the house!

The drive from Atenas to San Jose offers panoramic views of Costa Rica Pura Vida and you find yourself downtown in less than an hour. The drive to the Pacific side (Jaco/Manuel Antonio) provides equally impressive views ending in beautiful beaches and national parks less than 90 minutes away. Local fruit and vegetable stands abound in either direction, so there is always a chance to buy the best avocados on your way to and from home. The location of this house gives you the best chance to experience Costa Rica's coasts, volcanos, and local life and still be home to grill yourself a nice steak and take in the gorgeous city lights from a far, far distance. The stars and moon at night, are of course unparallel.

I should stop here for fear of seeming unauthentic, but it's all true. Come experience it for yourself. You'll leave a different person."

Thanks so much for opening up this sweet serenity to my family Diana, and best of luck with future renters.

Away From It All Yet So Close

  • 5 of 5

What a great place to unwind! beautiful bucolic hills and farmland around you, birds, butterflies, yet great wifi and a beautiful top shelf lovely home made my stay stress free since my work team could reach me if they or i wanted. My kids loved it, since they could see cows in the morning and we could be at the beach for lunch. It was first class all the way around, plus the caretaker and Leticia the property manager helped us connect with things to do and we felt safe at all times. and all the other reviews are spot on - there is no way that photos could do the jaw dropping views justice....we hope to make it a home away from home -- the Bucasta's

Wow, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left!

  • 5 of 5

This house is every bit as advertised and more. On one hand it was super close when we took day trips to the beach, a volcano and waterfalls, on the other hand i hated to leave the house...this was a mind blowing house, from it's style to the views to its comfort and convenience. It was a quick 5 min drive if we wanted to pop into town for groceries, wine or dinner, but we always wanted to get back to the house. I wish i could stay a month!! Al & Dawn

Well designed home, private, beautiful, comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Major impressions:

1) Very well designed, in and out. The person (Diana or her designer?) that put this together deserves an award. Everything looks great together. It's considered "Bali" style, and it's classy with quality furnishings. I took numerous photos of the place it was so beautiful.

2) Very private. No one is looking in on you from other residences. There are a number of homes off the same long road/driveway, but this is at the end of it, as the closest home excluding the caretaker's place, must be 1000 feet from the end of the (very steep) road.

3) Gorgeous view. In the day it feels like no one is out there and you see very few homes in the distance, but at night you see quite a few lights in the distance across the valley, so there are more homes hidden in the hills than you would think. The view includes mountain ridges.

Our only regret(?) was that we felt that we needed to leave the house (for several days, so we could really explore Costa Rica), so we basically paid for more days than we really used. So rent the place, but don't let the stunning place make you feel that you need to spend every night there, as there's much to see in Costa Rica if you love exploring the environment. And be careful driving in Costa Rica, especially at night.

Stayed for a Month- Had a Wonderful Time

  • 5 of 5

The weather was great during our entire stay- National Geographic identified Atenas as having the world's best climate and it certainly didn't disappoint during our stay. Needless to say, porch sitting (reading, bird watching) was one of our favorite activities since the porch is ideally located ( high up, overlooking the central valley) and one of the great features of the house. The city of Atenas is nearby and large enough to have all the essentials( grocery stores, restaurants, etc) yet retains a small city ambiance. The beach, San Jose, Grecia, the volcanoes, etc are all close enough for a day trip or less. Finally, Leticia was a wonderful and available resource. She helped us find local guides, set up a home cooked Costa Rican meal, and find an auto shop(tire problems with the rental car).

A couple of (very) minor suggestions: Add a reading light inside near the couch. Mostly we read outside, which was fine, but a little hard inside. Secondly, you may want to update the visitor guide as restaurants, tours, etc change. If you do that, you might want to add a note that gps(WAZE) is mandatory as there are very few road signs, or street signs, and no street numbers. As a friendly gas station attendant told me when we were lost (map in hand) " nobody uses maps here, we all use WAZE. After that, we were fine.
