Great for friends and family!
We had a great stay at Amelia's house. There was plenty of space for 3 adult couples, 3 kids, and one dog. The house was clean and well equipped. I would recommend it to anyone!

Gorgeous
You know how property pictures look so inviting... until you show up -- and are disappointed? Fear not: this property wows and exceeds expectations. While talking to others, it was difficult to refrain from gazing out the huge picturesque windows overlooking the Catskill mountains. The roomy house is situated near the top of the treeline, quite private, and stunning. And it doesn't stop there: the owner has thoughtfully provided all one needs for meals, although we only ate breakfasts there, but the coffee grinder was much appreciated. Warm, comfy and we'd love to return. Owner response excellent.

Absolutely perfect stay
This home was easily the best temporary rental anyone in my party had ever experienced and it was perfect for what we wanted: a spacious and comfortable spot out of the city to enjoy nature and a relaxed, fun time with family. The house was comfortable and very well stocked with everything we needed. The property itself is nestled away in the trees, the balcony view is beautiful, even when it was raining the huge windows made the house a lovely place to be. It was easy to check in, instructions were clear and the owner gave us helpful notes about hiking/restaurants/fun stuff near by. I hope we can return to this house one day.

Observe nature from the comfort of this thoughtful home
There are beautiful views from the windows and deck of this lovely home that look out onto a peaceful landscape. The sounds of birds, and the occasional glimpse of young deer scampering by add to the feeling of tranquility - a very soothing location with easy access to nearby state parks, and the city of Hudson, which has many choices for dining. Inside, the house is extremely comfortable. The great room is wonderful for gathering, and watching a summer shower, the kitchen is well-appointed with plenty of cookware and utensils. The primary bedroom is on the top level, en-suite, and a loft area with desk for working. Main floor bedrooms are a good size. The ground floor is like having a separate apartment available, with a bathroom and a den (including a sofa bed if needed). Wifi and air conditioning. Directions were clear, labels on switches in the house are very helpful, and suggestions for nearby attractions useful - we are grateful for the host's thoughtful planning in preparing her home for guests. My family and I had a lovely stay, and recommend the property whole-heartedly.

About the host

I live in NYC and love to escape upstate to the Hudson Valley. It is a beautiful area, and the perfect distance to make weekend getaways from the city.

Why they chose this property

The Hudson Valley is simply spectacular. Close to NYC, but scenic and rural, the towns in the area all have their own unique charm, which allows an escape from the large, chains stores now ubiquitous in NYC. It is one of my favorite areas to explore and relax. There is always a new experience awaiting.

What makes this property unique

The house is located about 5 minutes from Lake Taghkanic state park, which has 2 beaches (one with a concession stand) and great hiking trails, one of which circles the lake for about six miles. Boating and kayaking can also be done on the lake.

15 minutes from the house is the city of Hudson, which has dozens of antique shops, bookstores, art galleries, cafes & restaurants, and a couple of movie theatres. Warren street is the highlight.

Also about 15 minutes away is Frederic Church's estate, Olana, which has beautiful views of the Hudson and the Catskills, gardens, and a museum of his home.

Also about 15 minutes away in Ghent, NY, is the Fields Sculpture Park at the OMI International Arts Center with internationally recognized contemporary sculpture thoughtfully curated over 100 acres of farmland.

About 20-25 minutes away are Red Hook and Tivoli, which both have local shops and restaurants, and are close to Bard College, where the Fisher Performing Arts Center is located. 25 minutes away is Rhinebeck (5 minutes past Red Hook on Route 9), which has excellent restaurants, shops, a farmer's market on Saturdays, as well as local artists, and an art house movie theatre.

Directly across the river are Catskill, and the Catskill mountains with incredible hiking trails, and Woodstock.

If you like classical music, Tanglewood, the summer venue for the Boston Symphony Orchestra is about 40 miles away. It is a favorite for the cheap lawn tickets to outdoor concerts on summer nights. Well worth the drive.
