About Ryan and Robin
There are few things I enjoy more than floating down the Upper Kenai and few places I find more peaceful than having a cup of coffee in the sun room. I was able to spend the month of September fishing in Cooper Landing for about a decade before owning this property. For any guests that have not experienced September in Cooper Landing, I strongly recommend it. We have just completed our tenth consecutive rental season and plan to continue renting the house until we retire. We have continually reinvested a minimum of one third of the rental revenue back into the property for the last eight years. It is extremely important to us that our guests have a trip of a life time while visiting the River House. We partnered with Jessica Larsen to professionally manage the property during your stay.
Ryan and Robin purchased this House in 2007
Why Ryan and Robin chose Cooper Landing
There are many houses available for rent in Cooper Landing, but few have the privacy and beauty of the River House. It is easy to spend hours in the sunroom staring at the florescent river, surrounding mountains and local birds. Robins and Bald Eagles are the two most common bird species that can be seen on the property. While the mosquito is dubbed the "Alaska State Bird", between the river breeze and landscaped yard there are very few mosquitos or other biting insects on the property. We recently added a trail to a fenced river overlook. The views from this overlook are stunning. The short trail crosses a creek that is located on the property and allows you to see 700 yards upstream. Several of the local guides (year round residents) are very familiar with the River House and have spent considerable time fishing in the backyard. They can pick you up in a drift boat behind the house with no extra charge and spend some time explaining what is happening in the river at the time of your stay.
What makes this House unique
The Upper Kenai river is one of the most beautiful places we have come across. The house is extremely quiet and sits across from the drift only marker on the Upper Kenai (No motors allowed). Just above the property, the river begins to narrow and pick up current. The view from nearly every room in the house is breathtaking. The original house has been featured on the cover of several magazines over the years and was recently chosen for VRBO sweepstakes in 2015. Great effort has been made to maintain the trees on the property, while keeping them maintained to ensure views from all angles. There are very few properties on the Kenai river with the privacy and scenery of this location. The property has blue spruce, choke cherry, lilac, cottonwood, spruce and birch trees with a landscaped grass yard. In March and April the property is home to many bald eagles that feed throughout the day on spawning silver salmon. Brown bears frequent the property in May and early June and leave their mark on an annual basis. By late June the bears move a few miles down river to look for spawning salmon. Rainbows and Dollies can be caught easily for most of the summer and fall. In October Silver Salmon can be caught from the backyard.

Best cabin ever!
Clean, comfortable, homey, gorgeous view, good access to the water, and the list could go on! This cabin fully met and exceeded our expectations. Great property manager, too! We hope to visit again soon!
Just an amazing location and a great place for your Alaskan experience
Quiet Retreat Overlooking River
The River House is a gorgeously renovated, sunlight drenched, and large property with plenty of windows to overlook the yards and river. There is another rental house nearby, but it's far enough away with its own yard/spot by the river that you keep a nice sense of privacy. Our visit coincided with the start of the fishing season, but unlike other areas, our location remained calm, with an occasional rowboat or raft full of fishermen drifting quietly by. Across the river is a small beach that was visited by several bald eagles during our stay. The property manager, Stefanie, and the owner, Ryan, communicated well with me before, during, and after our stay. Stefanie and her co-worker, Joe, were very attentive in assisting me with the property's television. The guest book mistakenly listed free Netflix as an amenity; however, the TV still offered a sampling of free channels if you do not have a streaming service account to log into. The house is right off the highway nestled in the woods, but it is very quiet. Due to its location in the small town of Cooper Landing, we did experience some inconsistency with the WiFi/Television, heating units, and plumbing, but nothing that caused any sustained problems during our trip. The property's location is in the heart of the Kenai Peninsula, making day trips to Homer, Soldotna, Seward, and Girdwood ideal. We saw lots of wildlife on our road trips to and from the property. A wonderful retreat!
AMAZING IN EVERY WAY!!
The River House in Cooper Landing, Alaska......WHAT A WONDERFUL TIME!! This house sits right along the most beautiful turquoise water, the Upper Kenai River. We were able to fly fish by wading in right from the property. The house is centrally located and a great base for any Alaskan adventures. We enjoyed sitting in the sunroom with our coffee each morning watching the magpies and eagles. The house is well equipped and the beds were very comfortable! We enjoyed using the sauna several times as it was always such a comforting place after wading all day in the cool glacier waters. The couple of times we ventured out for lunch we enjoyed our meals....Sackett's and the Sunrise Inn....there is a small grocery store with basics just down the road and a few other stores for various items (e.g., ice cream, drinks, etc). There are several fishing guide shops nearby. We did the 45 minute drive to Seward and checked out Resurrection Bay (and a wonderful thai place "Woody's Thai Kitchen"), and then went to the Kenai Fjords National Park and did the short hike to the Exit Glacier. Also make sure to checkout the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center in nearby Portage (bears, moose, elk, wolves, caribou, reindeer, etc). If you are looking for a beautiful, peaceful place look no further than the River House. Thanks again for sharing your place with us....all the best
Spent a week fly fishing in Cooper Landing and could not imagine staying in a nicer place. Situated on the most beautiful piece of pristine property right on the shore of the Upper Kenai River. Fly fished right outside the door with bald eagles, spawning salmon and giant rainbow trout all day long. Ryan and Robin ensured our stay was perfect. The River House truly is a slice of Heaven. We were there at the most beautiful time as the Fall colours were in there spender, and with several views of the river and mountain tops, it was nothing short of spectacular. Beds were very comfortable, kitchen was well equipped and BBQ worked wonders on the the fresh salmon. We highly recommend the River House as it exceeded our expectations and all the previous glowing reviews. It really is a very special place.
The property is 49 miles from Seward, 120 miles from Homer and 65 miles from Whittier. The Russian River and mouth or Quartz creek are both 5 miles from the property.
The home sits on the Southside of the Kenai River on one of the few low bank frontage lots in Cooper Landing at the beginning of the drift only corridor of the Upper Kenai.
