Overview

Photos and Description of this Lungern holiday house

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

--We rent by the week (7 nights) from Saturday to Saturday--

Comfortable, spacious home directly on a beautiful, small lake mid-way between Interlaken and Lucerne. Located in Lungern, a quiet, down-home farming village. Individually owned by family with kids, comfortable for large family or two to three couples. Direct access to lake for swimming; walking distance to shops, restaurants, waterfall, tennis courts, mini-golf, unique indoor firing range, hiking trails, beach. Small motor boat rental optional with house; nearby rental of bikes, wind-surfers, paddle boats. Located in the center of Switzerland, perfect for day-trips around the country; accessible by train .20 minute walk from the station to the house and 25 minute walk to the station (uphill), about 1.6 KM .

All three bedrooms are upstairs. Master bedroom with own bathroom, skylight, door to balcony, twin beds fit together to make large queen-sized bed, but can be separated. Children's bedroom sleeps three in bunk bed and single (with another single that can be pulled out for 4th child). Access to balcony. Guest bedroom has twin beds fit together to make large queen-sized bed, but can be separated.

Notes: Owner likes to cook so kitchen is ready to cook for a crowd: dishwasher, glass-ceramic stove, full-size refrigerator, oven with convection oven, plenty of plates and pots and pans including equipment for making raclette, fondue, wok-cooking, etc. Kitchen gives onto covered patio with picnic table and gas grill for easy outdoor cooking/eating. Playroom in basement with toys, games, computer with Internet access, flat-screen TV and DVD player with eclectic collection DVDs. Big and varied library for adults and kids, mostly English but also French and German. Screens on at least one window per room (very rare in Europe!) keep out flies and mosquitoes, and house stays cool even in summer if shades are closed to keep sun out. House is insulated well and floor heat and fireplace keep downstairs toasty warm; upstairs also warm, heated by radiators. Good-sized yard, fenced in for kids.

Lungern is a Charming, peaceful village in the alps between two of the country's most popular touristic regions: Central Switzerland and the Berner Oberland. Easy access by train or car to Lucerne and Interlaken and the lake and mountain areas around them, or stay at home to bike and hike on local trails, and swim and fish in the crystal-clear lake of Lungern. See glaciers and high peaks in scenic excursions to Susten, Grimsel and Furqua passes, the Jungfrau, Grindelwald, Rosenlaui. Half hour drive to Ballenberg outdoor museum, or music festival in Lucerne. Drive 20 minutes to larger resort at Meiringen-Hasliberg. Village has a low-key, authentic atmosphere: not all shopkeepers speak English, no signs in Japanese or Arabic, no crowds and the local cultural festivals, from St. Niklaus to traditional wrestling to cow auctions are still celebrated by the townspeople, not just staged for tourists.

PS: Finally please note that Lungern lake is a natural lake but the water is used to produce hydro electricity during wintertime Therefore the waterlevel of the lake is low from January through May. The lake fills up again in spring with the snow melting away.

The house is on the shallow end during the winter months.

Beautiful location, well appointed, excellent base to explore region

  • 5 of 5

Thanks to Patrick and Alice in making sure everything was in order ahead of our visit. Nice and personable touch. House is located on a very beautiful site overlooking the lake and almost picture post card perfect. Well appointed home with everything we required, and more! Well positioned in relation to the Oberland region if you want to drive to Interlaken, Grindelwald, Brienz, etc. but also well situated for great hikes in the surrounding mountains and lots of opportunities for serious biking (mountain and road). Let alone the lake right next to the house to dive into on a hot day to cool off. Two good restaurants in the immediate vicinity with restaurant immediately up the road from the house (50 metres) very pleasant and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Vacation in the Alps

  • 5 of 5

This house is half way between Luncerne and Interlaken, one hour train or car ride each way. Alps in the back ground and a beautiful green lake in the front. The house is completely furnished with all of the extra's we needed for a month long stay. The funiture in the living room is a little low for adults and should be upgraded. Everything else was nice and comfortable.....We founds lots of restaurants nearby and large grocery stores a couple of towns over. The garage was a nice perk and made coming in an out of the house a pleasure. This is a great house to see Switzerland by car and train from Lungern's own train station a short distantance away and has a great restaurant right across the street from it. We had a slight problem with the water heater, and we called Isabell and she came right over and got it going and the next day Patrick had a repair man come and take care of the problem. This house is a good value and was clean and made a perfect vacation for a large family....Thanks again for allowing us to stay in your Swiss vacation home...we never forget it....

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review, much appreciated. It is not very often that our guests stay for a whole month. Your recommendation regarding the couch is noted and we agree it is low. We hope that summer will set in soon and that we can turn off the heating system for some time at least :-) Great that you enjoyed our lake side vacation home and returned with fond memories Thank you for staying with us, kind regards Patrick & Alice

Perfect Location, Perfect House

  • 5 of 5

This was a great home to rent for our family--six of us with four adults and two children. It is located in a beautiful setting right on the lake. The home is large enough to provide many different areas for family members to use. The kitchen is well equipped and stocked. There is a wonderful library of books and films. We all enjoyed the outside space as well, with bicycles and bbq grills, tables and chairs, etc. We were able to do some hiking right from the house.

The owners were very responsive and very helpful. The house is clean and well cared for. We were all ready to stay longer than our rental agreement allowed!

Owner's Response: We are delighted that you enjoyed our house: we get a lot of satisfaction when guests from around the world are able to feel at home there, especially when they enjoy the same things that we love when our family stays there. Sorry we were not able to host you for longer than the rental agreement allowed......but of course we had to honor the agreement with incoming guests! We would love to welcome you again in Lungern soon. Alice, Patrick, Joseph and Elena Maria

Perfect location, beautiful home.

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying I this beautiful, charming, well-equipped family home. Great for a small town lake vacation, or as a hub for travel in the area. We were 5 adults who did day trips to Bern, Lucerne, interlocken areas. Could not have been happier to return to our home each night. Excellent value. It was a pleasure having the support of the owners and their neighbor/sister from the planning, welcome to follow up.

Fantastic place for kids too with bikes, ping pong, fuseball and more!

Idyllic Swiss Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Marvelously scenic and exactly as described. The lake is a few steps out the back door and you can see the waterfall right out the front door. It was spacious, clean, and everything was in perfect order. The owner picked us up at the train station and dropped us off at the end of the week--a great service. The owners were very easy to work with.

We didn't rent a car and we did just fine banging around the country on the trains, boats and public transit. One day we were on 9 trains and 2 boats! Be forewarned though, it's a 25 minute walk to the station, not just 15 as one reviewer suggests. It's uphill so allow the time to stop at the bakery and get a pastry and coffee. Trains travel each direction once per hour so it's reasonably easy to jump off from Lungern.

We didn't visit much in town, it was really just home base for our vacation. The only thing interrupting the quiet is church bells and cowbells.

We want to express our warmest thanks to our hosts and to Lungern.

p.s. The fireplace is amazing. I wish my fireplace had such a good draw.

A unique experience in the middle of the alps

Our stay in Lungern was exceptional! The house is charming, we especially enjoyed spending time in the living room where you have a fantastic view of the lake and also a pretty fireplace.

During our stay, we went hiking, biking and even swimming!

Thanks to the Gasser family we had a precious time in Lungern! I'd really recommend it!
