Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms(Sleeps 4-6), 1 Bath (shower & tub), large living area

A unique country property includes late 1800 buildings (brick house, brick barn, brick ice house, brick granary converted to cottage, cyprus horse barn). Hike the fields and the timber. Watch for deer, turkey, heron, hummingbirds and hawks. Enjoy our

'hobby farm' with five 'mini-moos' and one lovable retired horse, two rescued mini-horses (and their colt born on the farm). The cottage is an 1870's granary with some walls containing original, handmade brick, surrounded and converted to a relaxing comfortable home.It is freshly painted and carpeted throughout, and has a full kitchen, and lovely but comfortable antiques. Garage/entry includes rubber boots in all sizes to traverse the three creeks or hike the meadows. Charcoal grill includes charcoal and lighter fluid for your use. Chimnea has freshly chopped wood stocked as well. There is a small fire pit, with a brick surround made from the same 1870's bricks. Wood is provided. The cottage has toys for children, although we asked that your children are supervised by an adult at all times, due to wandering animals, fences, and gates.

Close (15 min ) to Peoria, Caterpillar, Civic Center, St. Francis, Methodist, Proctor Hospitals, Riverfront. Enjoy Washington's unique and historical Town Square with antique malls, candy shoppes, caramel corn & ice cream, unique gifts, including local

arts and crafts. Enjoy the best gourmet coffee in the world at The Blend. Have lunch at Denhart's on the square restored 1800's restaurants loaded with character. There is a new steak house, and tasty local diners. There are the typical chains from pizza, to burgers, ice cream and chicken. Three grocery stores are nearby, as well as a super -store Walmart. Relax and enjoy the quiet at our hobby farm, and take a short drive to our charming town. Hop on the highway a few miles down the road and zip to Peoria for city attractions including shopping, river fun, sports and theater.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I wanted to write as a follow up to our fantastic visit to the cottage in August. The underlying story is that the Thursday before our reservation started, my dad entered a hospice. The prognosis was very uncertain, with the doctors saying 4 days to 4 months. Well, that resulted in a lot of soul searching about whether to go forward with our 13th Annual Father Daughter Camp Out. My father was an avid camper, we spent many weekends in the great countryside. I listened to my heart and concluded that he would have wanted us to be in that same country setting in the outdoors, together as a family. The cottage presented the perfect setting for reflection. There were a lot of telephone calls back and forth. And the daughters knew that we faced an uncertain future for their grandfather. Still, we spent those two days wrapped up in our very own special kind of peace. As we drove back home on that Sunday afternoon, I booked the first flight the next morning. Sadly, my dad passed away in January, though the intervening months gave me a number of times to be with him. He is now at peace himself.

We will always remember the specialness of the Father Daughter Camping Trip last August and I am grateful for your very welcoming cottage.

Best regards

Quaint, but spacious cabin just outside of Washington

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Cozy Country Cottage for three nights in early July while visiting family. My three children, aged 6, 8, and 10, loved the property, feeding the horses and walking down to the cattle pasture and watching the cows graze. The cabin itself is clean and spacious, with Wi-Fi available and games for kids of all ages. The most surprising part of our stay is that the property feels like it is tucked far away from civilization but is only a very short drive away from Washington.

Buzz was there when we arrived and gave me a tour of the property and described when and how each structure was built - a great way to start the trip.

We will definitely request to stay here again next time we visit!

Amazing experience for whole family

  • 5 of 5

This is exactly what we needed and hoped for... a secluded farm with cute animals, gorgeous hiking trails, beautiful setting and a comfy place to sleep. My kids had the best time here on the farm. They loved feeding the animals and running around free. The property had numerous outside toys for the kids and comfy spots to sit and watch them. The house had everything we needed or forgot. Bottle opener check! Tape check! Camping chairs check! Rubber boots check! Bug spray check! Campfire wood check! They thought of everything for you! We thought of the weekend as "comfy camping" because we could do everything outside like we went somewhere amazing to camp, but we could come back to the cute air conditioned cottage and take a refreshing shower and rest. It was over 100 degrees the weekend we stayed, and slept like babies. The hosts were amazing and I loved to talk with them. Only downside I could think of is that small toddlers could find many things to chew or climb in the cottage that I may worry about. But it was perfect for my 6 and 4 year olds. Book this place. You will love it.

Cute place

We had a nice time, one of the mini cows had a baby, so that was a fun experience watching the interaction and playfulness of the newbie. The mini horse's definitely learn who the treat giver is real fast.

The cottage was perfect for our girls weekend. Everything was exactly like pictured and the farm was beautiful with snow. Sal is easy to work with and very kind. We hope to visit again next year.

Comfortable, rural setting that includes horses and lots of places to explore. Fun for kids.

  • 4 of 5

Felt like we had our own little cottage out in the country. It snowed the first day we were there on Christmas Eve and made for a really fun time with the kids to play in the snow and pet their horse and two miniature horses. The cottage had everything including extra blankets and they provided a high chair for our two year old. Only down side was we got no reception with T-mobile on the property and we couldn't seem to connect to Wifi so that left us a little isolated. Overall, the place is very comfortable and a great spot to stay to get away from the city.

Absolutely beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

I highly recommend staying here. The hosts provided great hospitality. The house was comfortable and is on an amazing farm. We loved seeing the horses, the cow and the farm cat. We played games in the yard and was able to start on a bonfire. Everything was ready and provided for us. We hiked around the property, which was great. I even woke up to seeing a horse outside the kitchen windows. Absolutely amazing. Would recommend more and complete board games in the house.
