Lee and Roxanne Dunn enjoy sharing the Log House and Cobblestone House with vacationers while living in another house on the Ranch. Lee and Roxanne grew up in Colorado, and moved to Montana in 1989 and 1992. The Ranch is chemical free, everything is grown according to organic standards and we forage many native edible and medicinal plants. Please come and visit us, and we'd be glad to tell you all about this special place.
Lee and Roxanne Dunn purchased this cabin in 1989
Lee and Roxanne were attracted to this area because of a combination of wide open space and mountain views. The section of land that the Ranch is located has a lake and three creeks which are flowing year-round. This makes it special because it draws all sorts of wildlife.
This log home is modern and comfortable with all the conveniences of home, yet the backdrop is spectacular, with breathtaking views of the Absaroka Beartooth Mountains and wildlife passing by the cathedral style windows and large viewing deck. Guests can enjoy walks in the aspen grove, cottonwoods, grass fields, and creek bottoms. The ranch is a peaceful and a quiet place to stay and one can have as much solitude as you like. But if it is activities that you desire there are plenty of those on the ranch and nearby. Another added benefit, is the peace of mind knowing that the Ranch's owners lives on the ranch in a separate house within walking distance to the Log House, and can assist guests, if needed.
Beautiful.... The home was large, comfortable and very clean. The property was beautiful and the farm animals are a nice touch. The wildlife was all over and having your morning coffee on the huge deck overlooking the mountains doesn't get any better. It was a perfect match for our large group of people and would not hesitate to stay there again.
There were 14 of us coming from all over the US for an 80th birthday party in Nye & we wanted to stay together. This place was perfect! It was very fun seeing the goats & chickens & feeding the pigs. It was very peaceful & the owners were amazing! There were beautiful rainbows & sunsets & we took a tour of the property-beautiful. We would definitely stay there again! Thank you for the wonderful time!
Our stay at the White Deer Ranch was simply outstanding. We came to the Red Lodge area to ski, but after arriving at the Ranch we were all reluctant to leave the endless opportunity to enjoy nature and explore the outdoors that was right in front of us. The constant presence of wildlife, majestic views and opportunity for solitude and quiet was unbeatable. When there, you must allow time with the owners to learn of the history of White Deer Ranch, and to experience a small taste of everything that is their life. The Log Home was wonderfully rustic with the feel of being built out of love and timber, with just the right amount of modernity to feel luxurious. In short, wherever you are traveling from, making the journey simply to be here and do nothing else is worth every minute! Our family's thanks to Lee and Roxanne for allowing us the opportunity to create found memories in such a phenomenal place!
This home was the perfect place for our large group. It had plenty of room for all of us. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen (and entire house) was stocked with everything we needed. We had such a fun time, and this home completely accommodated us.
We planned a couples weekend away with friends (14 people total) and were fortunate enough to find Roxanne and Lee's log home and cottage. The setting was beautiful, quiet and just far enough "off the beaten path" that you were able to get away from the "rat race", but still close enough to Red Lodge that we were able to do some skiing one of the days. The log house was even nicer than we anticipated and everyone was comfortable and had their own queen bed. The place had everything we needed to make a nice dinner or breakfast. If you need it, Roxanne has likely already thought of it and already has it there. Plently of towels, chairs, tables, plates, utensils, etc for a large group. The living area and kitchen were open and perfect for accomadating our large group. Finally, I must say that Roxanne was so helpful, thoughtful and courteous during the whole process... beginning to end. We hope to make this at least an annual event and many of the couples talked about reserving this when their family and friends come to visit from out of state. All that is to say that we HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who wants a comfortable place to stay, but needs some space for family or friends. In my opinion, you won't be disappointed.
PS - They left us the best homemade honey... what a treat!
The ranch is off of Grove Creek Road and Davidson Creek Road approximately 6 miles from Absarokee and 8 miles from Fishtail, Montana. The ranch is only a 2.5 hour drive to Yellowstone Park. A day-trip can easily be made to the Livingston or Cooke City/Red Lodge entrance. The drive through Red Lodge to the Park is one of the most scenic in the U.S. over the Beartooth Highway.
We are next door to Tippet Rise Art Center, which opened in June of 2016. It is a 11,500 acre sculpture and classical music venue. To find out more go to www.tippetrise.org.
