About Susan Hassenplug
We are a retired professional couple who live in Lake Tahoe, CA. We are actively involved in our community, volunteering and participating in local events. We enjoy continuing this lifestyle in San Miguel by taking art and language courses, attending music and live theater events, and the wide variety of cultural festivities that take place often in San Miguel. We love nature and gardening, as is evident in our garden at Villa Colibri. We would love to share our home with you!
Susan Hassenplug purchased this House in 2004
Why Susan Hassenplug chose Zona Centro
We choose San Miguel de Allende because of its charm, warm people, and beautiful colonial setting. There is an abundance of art, music, theater, and wonderful restaurants to enjoy while relaxing in our beautiful home.
What makes this House unique
Our property is unique because it is located in a residential area yet is a short and beautiful walk to downtown through the park (Parque Juarez). It has a lovely and private garden with a fountain for a relaxing atmosphere. Finally, we love the tasteful and authentic Mexican decorations throughout our home. Wi-Fi available.

We had a great time in SMA and enjoyed this house. The decorations are lovely and the garden is beautiful.
The location is perfect - far enough to miss the din of the city (its very quiet) but close enough to all the restaurants and markets.
Beautiful home and garden!
This was my third stay at Villa Colibri. Absolutely in love with this place. House is so charming and garden is a little piece of heaven. Very good location as well with a short and lovely walk to center of town. Lovely owners and helpful staff. Thank you John and Susan--I hope to return!
A unique home with a style of its own. A story on every wall and in every corner!
Arrangements for our arrival worked perfectly. Alain was waiting for us with an enthusiastic welcome. After a brief tour and assurances that Francisco would keep us supplied in potable water he left promising that he was available if plumbing or electrical needs occurred. Our first meal was taken at a hamburger place at the end of 5 de Mayo. That was the one and only time we eat anything similar to American fast food. There are so many good local restaurants any foodie would be delighted.
52 Las Moras never ceased to surprise us. The art, artifacts and variety of objects installed everywhere kept us interested throughout our stay. Who would have thought to look for a rooster on top of the refrigerator or not be surprised to see a welded steel burro in the vestibule.
The accommodations were beyond ideal. Cool evenings were tempered by fire place heat at the dining table or in front of the TV, while sleeping in the large comfortable beds was cozy and warm under blankets and comforter. The garden with its variety of plants, bushes, trees, objects and shaded sitting and lounging areas was perfect for afternoon reading or resting. ..
We enjoyed our stay and would recommend 52 Las Moras to anyone looking for something beyond the ordinary at a reasonable price.
Thanks so much for your delightful and thoughtful response.
We really appreciate it and hope you'll think of our property when
you return to San Miguel.

Looks good but needs lots and lots of maintenance and attention owners don’t seem willing to do
We loved the garden and Guadiana is a great neighborhood. However, this house is acrosd the street from a primary school and during school times there is noise, traffic and people sitting in front of the house and dumping trash and candy wrappers .
The house is light and cheerful but there are barely 4 matching I chipped plates. I had to bring in our own pots and pans to try and cook because all that was there were two cheap pans that burned everything.
Many of the drawers are stuffed with junk like old batteries and pens. Garden “decorations “ are broken pieces of pottery that gardener tells me are the owner’s ART.
WiFi is non existent in upstairs bedroom and there is only one telephone in the
House. And no vonage. You have to supply that. Also, parking can either a problem so we had to rent a space for our car. Also, walls cracking both inside and outside. House needs serious ateemyion and could be
Lovely with less clutter.
We are renting somewhere else next time.
The impetus for this review is explained simply in that we chose not to rent to them in the future. They are problem renters who wanted to reserve 4 months next summer.
We live at the house for five months each year and make sure it is ready in every way for the next renters. After successfully renting the house for over 15 years, we know the importance for our renters to respect and enjoy the house while visiting magical San Miguel. They tell us so! Enough said!
Beautiful home in a great location!
The house and gardens are simply beautiful! My husband and I spent a month in Villa Colibri and could not have asked for lovelier surroundings. The house is spacious, elegant, and comfortable. The gardens are tranquil and relaxing as well as very well landscaped and cared for. Francisco, the gardener/caretaker was extremely helpful. The location is excellent and we able to walk almost everywhere we went.
Mother Nature was not always kind and we had an issue related to very heavy rains. The owner was very responsive and was easy to contact both by phone and email. All in all, a great trip and we would certainly stay again if we were able to spend a month.
A piece of paradise!!
The house is absolutely lovely and the gardens spectacular! We found peace, beauty and function all in one property! The location is good, as it is a flat walk to the historic center, the park, and shopping. We heard all the lovely sounds of San Miguel, roosters, bells, and parades but it was always quiet at night! We are coming back!
Historical San Miguel de Allende is the birthplace of the Mexican fight for independence. It has classic Spanish colonial architecture and an outstanding mountain climate. San Miguel is known for art, theater, music, great food of all varieties, and the most friendly people in Mexico!
